Should I be worried about my iPhone's connection

2020-10-11 Thread Jim Portillo
Hi. I don't know if I should be worried or not regarding my phone's
connection.

Two quick incidents.

When I'm on the Facebook app, I often get a message I've not seen before. It
says the following.

"You can still post comments while offline."

Also, for the past several days, when trying to use AIRA anywhere, I get
very spotty connections! I either lose calls or agents tell me the video
freezes. I don't know if it's my phone or AIRA.

I don't think I've had trouble streaming things, so maybe it's not a
connection issue, but I figured I'd ask the experts!

Jim

Chronoplan, countdown timer

2020-10-11 Thread Richard Turner

I strongly recommend Chronoplan for any timer needs.
I just realized I had purchased the $2.99 unlock all features on a previous
device, but had not needed it for quite a while.
In any case, if you only need 4 timers, countdown, or countdown to a date and
time, the free version works great!
But, if you want more choices of sounds, and the ability to create unlimited
timers, the $2.99 is money well spent.
You get the count-up function, count-down, function and the ability to
count-down to a specific date and time.
I should have used this for the lead up to my retirement, grin.

PS, I had written the developer just before writing this to be reminded of what
is in the unlocked version, and he replied within 30 minutes. He was glad to
hear the VoiceOver support is working fine, and is open for suggestions. I
think it works great with VoiceOver.

Hi,
While I won't use iCloud for Windows because it seems to always be more
trouble than it is worth, have you tried setting your default Email client
through Windows settings?

Hit your windows key and trype default.
The first thing should come up saying default apps.
Press enter.
For me, the first item is Email and mine says outlook.
If yours says something else, hit enter on the button and select the one you
want, i.e. outlook.

RE: Countdown timer wanted

2020-10-11 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
I thought I remember hearing that iOS 14 was supposed to add the ability to set
multiple timers, but I just tried it and it certainly does not work.
I think that should be a fairly easy and basic thing for Apple to do, both
Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant can do this and we do it all the time when we
are cooking using our Google speaker.

RE: Sharing Audio, Zoom App

2020-10-11 Thread kellmaster1
Thanks l.d.ethier23 for the tip.

I just used Mirror to mac and pc To share my iPhone to Google Chrome and the
sound from VoiceOver was included in the share on my pc.

I had to download the app on my phone and follow the directions in the app to
start the broadcast.

This resulted in a number being displayed in the Mirror to mac and pc app.

On my PC using Google Chrome I went to

https://start.airbeam.tv/

and entered the number displayed in the Mirror Mac PC app including the spaces
and pressed connect.

In a few seconds my iPhone screen including sound from VoiceOver was showing up
on my PC. I’m sure I could have shared that Chrome window to a Zoom or
Microsoft Teams meeting to get VoiceOver audio into the meeting.

You may have to enter your meeting using two devices but this looks promicing
for getting VoiceOver sound into Zoom and Microsoft Teams meetings.

The Mirror to mac and pc app only lets you share for five minutes without
paying but that’s enough time to see if the share you want to set up works.

Note that this will likely not work with apps that won’t let you use screen
recording like Netflix.

Hello,

I am not sure you can share voiceover with Zoom. I know that you can share
sound on your PC and you can use Mirror to mac and pc app to share iPhone on

Yes, that is what I have found--the new way to deal with changing the time is
just a nuisance!

Right.
I was talking about if someone started an event, and wanted it on a different
date ...
It is hard to cover all situations at once, but any method will do. I too tend
to start on the date where I want the event.

Well, actually, any more, it is easier to just tell Siri when I want the event
and the title and it is done.

Richard: if you go to the date on the calendar and then go in to put your event
in, does it not stay on that date? If you go in to another day, say the third
and you want the 20th, then you have to go through all the dates inside the
event part. This is at least what I found. Sometimes, The calendar will shift
and it causes me to have to find the date inside the event part, but most of
the time it stays right there. I think it’s something that I’m doing with my
swiping. However, I did it both ways, and I found that it stayed where it was
at on the day I was on and wanted.r

If you want a different month, flick right to the month picker and like of old,
flick up or down to change months.
Then, flick right to the date. You then get to flick right through all of the

I sent the following to Apple Accessibility, and was wondering if anyone else
had experienced this problem:

I just tried to add a new event in my Calendar on my iPhone SE 2020. This is
the first event I have tried to add since upgrading to IOS14.0.1. I was unable
to choose a new time as the old time picker seems to have been replaced with a
keypad, though I can't seem to get the numbers to go in the correct place. I
attached a screen-shot of the calendar screen for them. I have been using my
calendar and creating events with VoiceOver for four years--this is the first
time I was not able to change the default time.

RE: Access to charging sensor while having belt clip on case?

2020-10-11 Thread Richard Turner
Charging pads will require that the whole back of the phone is lying flat.
Consider a carrying case with a shoulder strap.
My wife made me one with a lanyard that has a cord stopper on it so I can
adjust the length. The default length of the lanyard is 54 inches, which
means when I put it over my shoulder it is about at my waist on one side.
With the cord stopper, I can shorten it to be at chest level when I am doing
things like working in the yard so it is not swinging around in my way. But
still quite available and protected.
You can also buy them and the advantage for me is that I don't even have to
think about it beging knocked off my belt in a crowd (whenever we get back to
having crowds,) and it does not interfere with anything.

Subject: RE: Access to charging sensor while having belt clip on case?

Hi. I think the nub will probably interfere with the wireless charging. I would
rtry and find a belt case that doesn't require any sort of attachment. There
are a ton of them on Amazon but make sure it's either a Universal case or one
that is made for your particular phone model.

Warmest regards

Subject: Access to charging sensor while having belt clip on case?

In preparation for getting a new iPhone and case when the new ones come out,
I'm upgrading from a 6s plus. If I go the route of finding stands or charging
pads to rest the new phone on, can this coexist with something like those
stick-on nubs that click into a belt clip? Right now, the nub I have on my case
is on the far left edge of the case at the midpoint. Would this put the phone
off-center so it wouldn't connect to the charging pad? I really find it helpful
to connect to a belT clip to free up my hands. If I would need to use another
solution, what have others done?
Thanks,
Matthew

2020-10-11 Thread K. Scott Carlson
I got the program installed awhile ago, but I could never get it to download
everything; it downloaded some of the files and then just stopped.
