RE: after shockz quality

2020-12-03 Thread Simon A Fogarty
Hi Donnie,

Thanks yeah I am going to have to find a store that has them on a demo stand
and have a listen.

I've also gotta look at the bose frames which I think might fit my use better
as they are meant for music etc and they are sun glasses,

I again just have to test the audio quality out from my phone.

I have the Aftershockz Mini headset and like it a lot. It connects up pretty
quickly, and is the best headset I've had as far as use with the phone app
goes. There isn't very much vibration against the jaw bone unless I'm watching
a video where things are really bassy. I switch between it and my Beats Studio
wireless; the former is used if I'm just doing initial audio work where I have
to proof and correct mistakes in the Dragon output document; the latter comes
in to play when I have to do a more thorough read-through to make sure I've
gotten all the nuances in. The earplugs that come with the Mini are great, too,
for blocking out bus chatter from squawking kids or people who think everyone
wants to listen in on their conversation.

I'd use my Beats all day, but my ears would get hot, and I'd miss half of the
stuff people say to me when they walk up and start chattering.
Aftershockz is a good open-ear alternative.

Dani

Re: Bluetooth Keyboard for iPhone8 That Uses Second & Third Key As VoiceOver Keys?

2020-12-03 Thread Dave Clement
Hello,

Over the past ten years I have bought two simple and cheap bluetooth keyboards.
Each of these have what you want, the 2nd and 3rd keys used as the VO key. I
don't recall the brands, I just went for the cheapest ones I could find, around
$15 - $20. No fancy features, only pair to one device, etc.

Hope this is useful.

I’m still in the dark ages using an Iphone 6 but with the latest IOS version.
I sometimes find it difficult getting out of the control center and

frustrating as there is no “back” option to get out of it.

Hi List,

I know I've seen these gestures posted several times but since I still have a
home button on my SE 2020, I've not paid careful attention. I have a friend who
just got an iPhone 12 Pro who needs to know the gestures for the following:

  1. Get to the home screen.
  2. Get to the App switcher. I'm going to state that I believe this is a
single finger swipe up and hold starting at the bottom of the screen and
releasing when the first sound is heard. Can someone confirm that this takes
you to the App switcher? I believe continuing that single finger drag till the
second sound is heard takes you to the Control center but I could have the two
reversed.

Thanks in advance for your help. Also, if anyone can direct me to a good site
to the iPhone gestures for the non-home button phones, I'd very much appreciate
it.

The Bluetooth on those headphones doesn’t work at all well in windows from my
experience. And when you plug it in via the cable, you’ll only have headphones,
not the mike.

I’ve not seen any Bluetooth headphones that works well in windows unless you
have one of the dongles.

RE: Hand writing accessibility feature and numbers

2020-12-03 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Yes, you can, but you would have to be quite good at drawing the numbers
because of course after you flick up or down with 3 finger sto switch to
numbers you then only hear clicks after you draw each number so if you don't
draw each number perfectly it won't work. I used to be sighted and can usually
get the handwriting to work OK, but I just tried it once and apart from being
slow, I apparently didn't draw one of the six numbers of my Pin correctly as I
was told the PIN I entered was invalid, in my opinion it is much easier to use
Face Id o rTouch Id and, for the odd time this doesn't work, the keypad.

Hi James,

You can set Handwriting to recognize lower case letters, capital letters,
numbers, or punctuation. If I remember right, you cycle between these by
flicking up or down with three fingers. And yes, you can enter a passcode using
Handwriting. YOu'll just need to switch the recognition to numbers first.

Best,
Anna

Re: Hand writing accessibility feature and numbers

2020-12-03 Thread Anna Dresner

Best,
Anna

Hand writing accessibility feature and numbers

2020-12-03 Thread James Lockwood
The handwriting feature allows you to select handwriting then draw with your
finger letters. But every time I try to draw a number it doesn’t recognize it.
I would like to be able to use hand writing to login to my iPhone by writing
out the four digit code. Does anyone know if this is possible? First, is it
possible for handwriting to recognize numbers? And, is it possible to login to
your phone using hand writing to write out your Hasco

RE: Looking for an app to read experation dates

2020-12-03 Thread Richard Turner
I did a search in the app store and found some that sounded like possible
options.
I tried two, "Hi Scan" and "beep" both of which have paid versions but neither
worked well.
In fact, it sounds like they are just tracking apps that you have to manually
enter the expiration date.

So, rather than mess with struggling with this kind of thing, I would use Be My
Eyes, aira, or Facetime or Zoom or Skype with a friend and have them read that
info to you.

RE: Voice control

2020-12-03 Thread Richard Turner
Yes.
Keep in mind it is designed for people who are unable to do the standard
gestures.
I would recommend reading about the commands and especially how to enable and
disable Voice Control with Siri, which is as simple as Turn on Voice Control,
and Turn Off Voice control after you enable it in settings and download a small
bit of data.
I recommend only using it with headphones along with VoiceOver as it may
mistake your VoiceOver talking for commands.

It does use more battery, so be aware of that if you decide to try it.
I personally do not use it but experimented for a while when I was teaching the
iPhone and had some clients who could not do the gestures. But, there are a
ton of commands to learn if one was going to use it full time.

split view on Ipad

2020-12-03 Thread Dan

I have searched this out and found some
instructions but they don't work completely.  Maybe it can't be
done or something.

I want to turn off split view completely
so that when I open an app it is the only thing displayed on the
screen.  Maybe I am just old and can't  adjust but I'd rather
have my Ipad act like my iphone SE.

I got it partly turned off using some
instructions I found by googling but some apps still go into
split view when I open them.

Can I turn it off completely?

Thanks,

You should be able to hit the home button to get out of that mode.

Double tap the home button to open the app switcher and then a three finger
swipe up to close any apps that are left open, like camera….

I’m still in the dark ages using an Iphone 6 but with the latest IOS version.

I sometimes find it difficult getting out of the control center and

frustrating as there is no “back” option to get out of it.
