Apple is releasing iOS 14.4 and iPadOS 14.4 to the general public later today
after previously beta testing with developers and public beta users. The update
brings changes to the Camera app, bug fixes for keyboard input lag, and much
more. It also includes support for the new Apple Watch Unity watch faces.
Apple made the announcement in a press release this morning
detailing
new initiatives for Black History Month. We expect the update to be released
around 1 pm ET/10 am PT. Apple will also release watchOS 7.3
today.

iOS 14.4 features
Apple says that iOS 14.4 includes support for recognizing smaller QR codes in
the Camera app, as well as the option to classify Bluetooth device types in
Settings. Notably, the update also adds new notifications for when your iPhone
can’t verify if you’re using a “genuine Apple camera.”
iOS 14.4 also includes a handful of bug fixes related to HDR photography, the
Messages app, and more. There is a fix for keyboard lag, which is an issue that
has been plaguing many iPhone users since iOS 14 was first released.
iOS 14.4 includes the following improvements for your iPhone:

  * Smaller QR codes can be recognized by Camera
  * Option to classify Bluetooth device type in Settings for correct
identification of headphones for audio notifications
  * Notifications for when the camera on your iPhone is unable to be verified
as a new, genuine Apple camera in iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro, and
iPhone 12 Pro Max
This release also fixes the following issues:

  * Image artifacts could appear in HDR photos taken with iPhone 12 Pro
  * Fitness widget may not display updated Activity data
  * Typing may be delayed and word suggestions may not appear in the keyboard
  * The keyboard may not come up in the correct language in Messages
  * Audio stories from the News app in CarPlay may not resume after being
paused for spoken directions or Siri
  * Enabling Switch Control in Accessibility may prevent phone calls from
being answered from the Lock

FYI.
It would appear that the lack of proper button labels in the TV app is still an
issue in iOS 14.4.
So, perhaps all who are wanting this fixed could write
accessibil...@apple.com and ask them to fix
this.
If you are on the betas, please do likewise through the feedback app.

Go to the end of the settings option, and you should find general open and then

turning off capslock on a braille device

2021-01-26 Thread Duane Steele
I'm using a BrailleEdge 40 with my iPhone. I don't know how this is happening.
But I just went into eight-dot mode to put a new contact in my phone using
grade one Braille, and all the letters are being capitalized and I'm not
holding down the number 7 key. How do I get each letter to be just a letter and
not capitalized unless I choose to capitalize it when writing with my braille
display. This isn't happening in contracted Braille.

Apple says that iOS 14.4 includes support for recognizing smaller QR codes in
the Camera app, as well as the option to classify Bluetooth device types in
Settings. Notably, the update also adds new notifications for when your iPhone
can't verify if you're using a "genuine Apple camera."
iOS 14.4 also includes a handful of bug fixes related to HDR photography, the
Messages app, and more.

  * Enabling Switch Control in Accessibility may prevent phone calls from
being answered from the Lock Screen
iOS 14.4 will available to users via an over-the-air update in the Settings app
later today. Simply open the Settings app, choose General, then choose Software
Update. As usual, if the update does not immediately appear for download, keep
checking as it sometimes takes a while to roll out to all users.

TV App buttons are still unlabeled in 14.4

2021-01-26 Thread Richard Turner
FYI.
It would appear that the lack of proper button labels in the TV app is still an
issue in iOS 14.4.
So, perhaps all who are wanting this fixed could write
accessibil...@apple.com and ask them to fix
this.
If you are on the betas, please do likewise through the feedback app.

2021-01-26 Thread regina alvarado
Phasil, with general selected go to the right side of the screen. Swipe down to
software update and double tap. Now it works as usual. On iPad the left side in
settings shows the main topics and when opened" the inside of the opened
setting is on the right. Many things like settings and mail and messages act
this way. Hope this helps a little.

RE: Button Already Selected?

2021-01-26 Thread Cris Ali
No you are not doing anything wrong. On iPads, once you go to settings, it
lists all the categories on the left side of the screen. When you select one of
the catagories or apps you want to modify its settings, the settings are listed
on the right side of the screen. Since general is already selected, you will
find all items under it listed on the right of the screen. One easy way to find
them is to select headings in your rottor, and swipe once down, it will take
you to that list of items.

No, you cannot just change the file extension. You must use a file converter
Application to change the digital format of the file.
There are many of these applications available, and which one you choose
depends on which OS platform you were using.
I use a Mac, and therefore I use Fission from Rogue Ameba. It is accessible and
works very well.

2021-01-26 Thread Richard Turner
I had not used MP3 Tag before.
I just did a little experiment.
It's album Artist is different than GoldWave's album artist.
I tagged a little sound file I have.
When I opened it in GoldWave, the Album Artist field was blank, while the
title, artist, album, and genre were what I entered in MP3 Tag.
I don't know what that means for iTunes but I have never had a problem with the
results when using GoldWave and importing to iTunes for Windows.

Thank you Anna and Robert, just what I wanted now I can organise some albums so

Incidentally I have just bought a pair of Tribut Stormbox Micro Bluetooth

hi-fi they are very usable.

Re: NP3 tag editor?

2021-01-26 Thread Malcolm Parfitt
Thank you Anna and Robert, just what I wanted now I can organise some albums so
they display correctly on my iPhone.

Incidentally I have just bought a pair of Tribut Stormbox Micro Bluetooth
speakers they are quite portable and although they’re not what you might call
hi-fi they are very usable.

MP3 tag is great. Very flexible and accessible. You can also select multiple
files and edit the data they have in common, such as the album name.

iOS and iPad OS 14.4 notes from AppleVis

2021-01-26 Thread Richard Turner
Apple Releases iOS 14.4 and iPadOS 14.4; Bringing a New Direct Touch Setting
for VoiceOver Users
Submitted by AppleVis on Tuesday, January 26, 2021 - 16:30.
[Member of the AppleVis Editorial Team]

Apple has today released iOS 14.4 and iPadOS 14.4, which-alongside the usual
bug fixes and under-the-hood improvements-bring a new Direct Touch
accessibility setting, support for recognizing smaller QR codes in the Camera
app, as well as the option to classify Bluetooth device types in Settings.

When navigating to Settings > Accessibility > VoiceOver > Rotor Actions you
will now find a new section named Direct Touch Apps, from where you can enable
Direct Touch on an app-by-app basis. This should remove the need with apps such
as Flicktype to enable Direct Touch each time you use the app (or, in the case
of Flicktype, its keyboard).

To complement this new setting, Apple has also added Direct Touch to the list
of items that can be added or removed from the VoiceOver rotor at Settings >
Accessibility > VoiceOver > Rotor.

For owners of a HomePod mini and a newer model iPhone equipped with a U1 chip,
it is anticipated that this update to iOS will introduce a new Handoff
experience when transferring audio between the two devices. This functionality
is not mentioned in Apple's release notes, but this is possibly because the
required software update for the HomePod is not yet ready.

Once the required HomePod software update is released,
AppleInsider
describes how the new Handoff will work:

As you bring your phone near the HomePod mini, the light atop the speaker will
start dim and small and slowly start to glow brighter and brighter as it gets
closer. Simultaneously, your phone will start vibrating. The vibration
increases in intensity as the devices move closer together.

As you start bringing them together, a status bar will appear at the top of
your phone's display. It shows an icon of the HomePod mini, the name, and the
location of the device. You can tap it to manually pass over your audio or
continue moving the devices closer. Once you do bring the devices close enough,
the light will flash on the HomePod mini and your audio will transfer from your
iPhone to the HomePod or vice versa.

Once it does transfer the audio, a new card will pop onto your phone that shows
the large album art, currently playing track, audio controls, and an AirPlay
button for rerouting audio.

If you have a HomePod mini and a U1-equipped iPhone, please share your thoughts
below on the new handoff experience for VoiceOver users.

Bugs

Our testing suggests that no pre-existing accessibility bugs have been resolved
in iOS 14.4 and iPadOS 14.4.

At the time of posting, we are aware of one new bug for blind and low vision
users in these releases.

  * When composing a message in a new conversation in the Messages app and
using Braille Screen Input, VoiceOver does not speak words deleted if deleting
by word with 2-finger flick
left.
This behaviour does not appear to occur when composing a reply to an existing
conversation or in other apps or across the operating system.

As we always stress, we can make no claims on the completeness or accuracy of
our testing. We are only a small team, and it is simply impossible for us to
test all devices, configurations, applications, and use cases. Accordingly, to
help us ensure that the information on this page is as complete and accurate as
possible, please let us know in the comments of any fixes; enhancements; or
regressions that you find in your own use of iOS 14.4 and iPadOS 14.4.

iOS 14.4 Release Notes

iOS 14.4 includes the following improvements for your iPhone:

  * Enabling Switch Control in Accessibility may prevent phone calls from
being answered from the Lock Screen

How to update

iOS 14.4 and iPadOS 14.4 are available via Over-the-Air Update (Settings >
General > Software Update) via Finder on a Mac with macOS Catalina or later,

Hello,

Does anyone know for a speech friendly MP3 tag editing program?

I have a couple of files I want to edit so that they are organised more
accurately by the Music app on my iPhone.

I would prefer to edit them manually as there are not that many that need
alterations made to them.

Thanks.

RE: can you convert wav files into mp3s

2021-01-26 Thread Chris Szostak
Hi!

You actually have to convert them. Programs like Audacity which is free, can
do this for you. I actually do audio editing for free for Christian-based
material for a ministry that I'm starting, so if this is Christian-based audio,
I'd be happy to look into helping you out. If so, feel free to contact me off
list at coffeefa...@gmail.com .

Have a blessed day!
Chris

"Your value is only what God says. He thinks YOU are worth dying for!" (Our
Daily Bread Ministries)

I dare you to give this a try! Believe in and start to live by the following
promises: Psalm 46 10a, Philippians 4:6-7, and Exodus 14:14. Oh, and when they
prove to be true in your life remember to follow Philippians 4:4 and then
declare 1 Chronicles 29:13! If you want to live with these promises for all of
eternity and avoid what you'll find in Revelation 20:15, then I strongly urge
you to follow and accept Romans 10:9-10 and then ask Christ, through prayer
into your life before it's too late! What are you waiting for! It's the most
amazing and life-changing decision you could ever make! Want even more, then I
dare you to check out the whole Bible for even more amazing promises that could
change your life.

Am I able to just change the file extension on wav files to mp3 or would I lose

No, you cannot just change the file extension. You must use a file converter
Application to change the digital format of the file.
There are many of these applications available, and which one you choose
depends on which OS platform you were using.
I use a Mac, and therefore I use Fission from Rogue Ameba. It is accessible and
works very well.

Re: can you convert wav files into mp3s

2021-01-26 Thread Brad Snyder
No, you cannot just change the file extension. You must use a file converter
Application to change the digital format of the file.
There are many of these applications available, and which one you choose
depends on which OS platform you were using.
I use a Mac, and therefore I use Fission from Rogue Ameba. It is accessible and
works very well.

iOS 14.4 coming later today with Apple Watch Unity face support, bug fixes, and
more
Chance Miller

Apple is releasing iOS 14.4 and iPadOS 14.4 to the general public later today
after previously beta testing with developers and public beta users. The update
brings changes to the Camera app, bug fixes for keyboard input lag, and much
more. It also includes support for the new Apple Watch Unity watch faces.
Apple made the announcement in a press release this morning detailing new
initiatives for Black History Month. We expect the update to be released around
1 pm ET/10 am PT. Apple will also release watchOS 7.3 today.

iOS 14.4 features

Smaller QR codes can be recognized by Camera
Option to classify Bluetooth device type in Settings for correct identification
of headphones for audio notifications
Notifications for when the camera on your iPhone is unable to be verified as a
new, genuine Apple camera in iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro, and
iPhone 12 Pro Max
This release also fixes the following issues:
Image artifacts could appear in HDR photos taken with iPhone 12 Pro
Fitness widget may not display updated Activity data
Typing may be delayed and word suggestions may not appear in the keyboard
The keyboard may not come up in the correct language in Messages
Audio stories from the News app in CarPlay may not resume after being paused
for spoken directions or Siri
Enabling Switch Control in Accessibility may prevent phone calls from being
answered from the Lock Screen
iOS 14.4 will available to users via an over-the-air update in the Settings app
later today. Simply open the Settings app, choose General, then choose Software
Update. As usual, if the update does not immediately appear for download, keep
checking as it sometimes takes a while to roll out to all users.

Hello,

Does anyone know for a speech friendly MP3 tag editing program?

I have a couple of files I want to edit so that they are organised more
accurately by the Music app on my iPhone.

I would prefer to edit them manually as there are not that many that need
alterations made to them.

Thanks.

One person joins it to the home account. So say I created it on my home account
with my Apple ID. But if my wife asks it a question it will respond to her so
she can ask if she has any new messages and will give her her messages not mine
and likewise I ask for new messages and gives me mine not hers. You can enable
or disable that feature at will.

background music like currently I have one on my end table playing at a

you good sound at a higher volume.

I’m thinking of adding a couple of more minis.

Re: How to edit bookmarks for Safari?

2021-01-26 Thread Brad Snyder
Editing Bookmarks in Safari on iOS is easy. Just do the following:
1. Open the Safari app on your device.
2. Select the Show Bookmarks button along the bottom edge of the screen on
iPhone.
3. Make sure the Bookmarks tab is selected near the top of the new screen.
4. Swipe through the list of bookmarks. When you get to a bookmark you would
like to delete, swipe up until you hear VoiceOver speak Delete, and do a
1-finger double tap to execute the action.

HTH.

iOS 14.4 coming later today with Apple Watch Unity face support, bug fixes, and
more
Chance
Miller
Apple is releasing iOS 14.4 and iPadOS 14.4 to the general public later today
after previously beta testing with developers and public beta users. The update
brings changes to the Camera app, bug fixes for keyboard input lag, and much
more. It also includes support for the new Apple Watch Unity watch faces.
Apple made the announcement in a press release this morning
detailing
new initiatives for Black History Month. We expect the update to be released
around 1 pm ET/10 am PT. Apple will also release watchOS 7.3
today.

iOS 14.4 features
Apple says that iOS 14.4 includes support for recognizing smaller QR codes in
the Camera app, as well as the option to classify Bluetooth device types in
Settings. Notably, the update also adds new notifications for when your iPhone
can't verify if you're using a "genuine Apple camera."
iOS 14.4 also includes a handful of bug fixes related to HDR photography, the
Messages app, and more.

  * Enabling Switch Control in Accessibility may prevent phone calls from
being answered from the Lock Screen
iOS 14.4 will available to users via an over-the-air update in the Settings app
later today. Simply open the Settings app, choose General, then choose Software
Update. As usual, if the update does not immediately appear for download, keep
checking as it sometimes takes a while to roll out to all users.

NP3 tag editor?

2021-01-26 Thread Malcolm Parfitt
Hello,

Does anyone know for a speech friendly MP3 tag editing program?

I have a couple of files I want to edit so that they are organised more
accurately by the Music app on my iPhone.

I would prefer to edit them manually as there are not that many that need
alterations made to them.

Thanks.

RE: What is your favorite braille display to use with iPhone?

2021-01-26 Thread Debby
Hi,

As you can see you have a number of choices. It really does depend on how much
you want the device to do and what you can afford. Right now my favorite is a
mantis Q40 from the American Printing House, APH. It has a qwerty keyboard and
a 40 cell braille display. It also has some note taking capabilities, and you
can read materials from Bookshare and NFB Newsline. The price if $2,495.

APH also has the Chameleon 20. It has a braille keyboard and a 20 cell display.
I have not seen one, so I can’t provide any more information.

Take care and stay safe!

The Orbit displays have the best feeling braille of any display I have used.
And in my career as a braille instructor, I handled just about all of them.

Of course, it depends on what kind of things you will be doing beyond

I dare you to give this a try! Believe in and start to live by the following
promises: Psalm 46 10a, Philippians 4:6-7, and Exodus 14:14. Oh, and when they
prove to be true in your life remember to follow Philippians 4:4 and then
declare 1 Chronicles 29:13! If you want to live with these promises for all of
eternity and avoid what you'll find in Revelation 20:15, then I strongly urge
you to follow and accept Romans 10:9-10 and then ask Christ, through prayer

Unless I missed it big time, on my SE 2020 phone, Mentions, is not an option to
add to or remove from the rotor.

Stay safe and take care. Mike.

Hi,

Somehow, I was able to turn mentions off in my messages settings, but for some
reason it won’t go out of the rotor. I would prefer it not to even be in the
rotor, but I am unsure of how to fix it. Thank you so much!

Oh, sorry. I just saw it. It was a bit of a strange subject to me so I didn’t
understand since I don’t do texting.

Hi Jasmine,

I'm sorry, I should have been more clear. I'm running iOS 14.3 on an SE 2020
iPhone. When I open, Settings / Messages, if I have iMessage turned on I don't
get the Mentions heading to turn Mentions off. I need to turn iMessages off in
order for the SMS / MMS Heading, MMS messaging, Group messenging... + the other
settings to show.

Stay safe and take care. Mike.

Hi,

I was wondering, even though I have iMessage on, I still have the mentions
heading in my text messages. I don’t really know what it is for, so therefore I
don’t like it much. I’m going to try the steps you mentioned so that I can see
if I can get it to turn off.

Hi Chris,

Go to, Settings / Messages, and open. Note: If you have iMessages turned on
you won't have the, Mentions, heading so, turn iMessages off to get it.
Swipe several times to the, Mentions heading, now swipe right 1 time to,
Notify Me, and turn this feature off.

Stay safe and take care. Mike.

Hi All!

Does anyone know how to make VoiceOver stop indicating mentions. I have them
turned off in settings, but VoiceOver keeps reading them and it's actually
really distracting as they are pointless to hear. Any help would be wonderfully
appreciated. If it helps, I'm using the iPhone 8 with iOS 14.3.

Have a blessed day all!

Chris
