Here is the link plus the app store description. It was just updated on
January 17th, 2021.
https://apps.apple.com/us/app/withings-thermo/id1108420798
Description
The Thermo app helps you take care of your whole family's health. Created for
use with Thermo, the Withings smart temporal thermometer, the app automatically
syncs temperature readings for each user via WiFi or Bluetooth. Each user can
then view a complete history of temperature readings on their timeline.

To create a more detailed history, you can easily add extra information to each
reading:

Symptoms: Whatever and whenever you or someone you care for experiences a
symptom, it's easier than ever to keep track so you can relay this info to your
doctor.

Medicine: What did you take and when? Add medications administered to
understand how they affect temperature and so you know when and if you need
more.

Comments: Add any additional notes that may be relevant to your temperature or
illness.

Photos: Strange rash? Feeling better? Select a picture from your phone's
gallery, or take a new picture to add to your timeline.

The Thermo app also provides the following useful features:

Reminder: Set a reminder to take your temperature at certain hours of the day
or in specific time increments.

Manual Temperature: If you don't own Withings Thermo, or simply want to enter additional
temperature readings, you can do just that. Simply select "Manual Temperature"
and add your details.

Thermo and Apple Health work seamlessly together, so you can retrieve all your
health data in one place for easier health tracking.

If you log a high temperature reading, Thermo can help you assess the severity
of your fever.

Insights: Thermo provides fever management advice to help you monitor
temperature and symptoms

Ask ThermiaT: An educational tool developed by Boston Children's Hospital,
ThermiaT provides recommendations on when it's time to see a doctor and as well
as advice on proper medications and dosages.

since the original question was how to answer and end a call on the iPhone
without VoiceOver, all the references in Richard’s instructions to various
VoiceOver gestures are irrelevant, and do not apply when VoiceOver is disabled.

Simply put, to answer a call when VoiceOver is disabled, one should first
locate the Answer call button, and either tap the button once, or perform a
one-finger slide action from left to right.
To end a call when VoiceOver is not running, simply locate the End call button,
usually located immediately below the Zero on the telephone keypad, and perform

AT suspending service to number when inserting SIM card into older phone

2021-02-08 Thread Vicky Collins
Has anyone ever had this happen before? I'm not sure whether it was just a
technical glitch or if it could happen again or what, as I never got a straight
answer from the person I did the online chat with at AT

As I've mentioned previously, since my only internet is on my phones or via
personal hotspot with my phones, and I can only backup my iPhones to iCloud
using my Nokia 6 Android phone, I proceeded to put my SIM card in that Nokia 6
and backup one of my phones yesterday. But, this time, although I tried several
times after enabling the hotspot feature on the Nokia, I just couldn't seem to
get the backup on the iPhone to complete. I then finally noticed a message on
my Android phone, a free message from AT that said something like: 7535 AT
free msg. We're always looking for ways to connect you to what you love faster
than ever before. That's why we are taking steps to upgrade our network. We're
sorry but the phone you recently tried to activate won't work. Don't worry. We
can help you upgrade at att_com/upgradehelp. Retiring 3G network.

I then removed the SIM card from that phone and put it back in my iPhone 7, but
I could no longer make calls or access the internet with that SIM, not even
when I put it in my iPhone SE 2020 and gave it a try.

Using my other phone line, it took me a bit to look around in the My AT app
and online at their web site to finally find the message that that particular
phone line had been suspended due to an unknown phone, and that I either needed
to give AT a call or do a chat with them to get things resolved, so I opted
for the online chat.

It took a bit of time, but my phone line got reactivated, he told me he would
waive the $30 activation fee, and then he told me something like to not remove
the SIM card again or it would stop my service again. When I pressed him about
always being able to move the SIM between my phones in the past and that I
needed to use the Nokia phone to do the iCloud backups for my iPhones and that
I had other iPhones that I would also use from time to time, he said he would
check further and then told me I could swap my SIM and use it with my Nokia 6.
I haven't yet tried the Nokia again, though, not wanting to risk that just yet.
Oh, and while he told me it could take up to a half hour to reactivate the
number, it was actually done within about five minutes and I was able to use
the same SIM card, although I was afraid I would have to wait and have them
send me a new one.

In case anyone is interested, I'll paste a copy of the chat I had below, and
I've hopefully removed all of my account information. Also, if some of this
doesn't appear to read quite correctly, it could be because I've opted to open
the message containing the copy of the chat on my U2 Mini and all the line
breaks and things may not have transferred over:

You have to point the thermometer at your forehead, keeping it about one half

Sieghard posted very good information about the technique.
Here is the important part of his post:
It takes a few practice runs to get the timing right, i.e. how fast you move
it. You don't, by the way, touch the skin but hold it about a half inch or so

recessed in a round opening and keep the same distance from my forehead this
way. It takes about 4 seconds or so between the first vibration when it's ready
and the second which indicates it's done and in that time you should move from
the middle of your forehead to your temple.
Just to show how quickly the result usually is transferred to your iPhone, I
did the following test just now in order to count how many seconds it takes:
1. I pressed the button and after it vibrated I moved it along my forehead to
my temple counting 2. After the second vibration I put the thermometer down and
wrote the following:
"It takes about 4 seconds or so between the first vibration when it's ready and
the second which indicates it's done and in that time you should move from the
middle of your forehead to your temple."
3. I was almost done writing this sentence when I heard the sound that there
was a notification and Voiceover started up and read the following notification:
Thermo, new reading, unassigned, 37.20 degrees at 7:51 AM And for those who use
these weird Fahrenheit measurements, this would be 98.96 degrees I also just
repeated the measurement about 5 minutes later and this time I counted how long
it took for the notification to pop up and it was around 26 seconds, seemed the
first was a bit faster. Anyways, the result this time was 37.1 degrees so a 0.1
degree Celsius difference or about 0.2 degrees Fahrenheit.

Best regards,
Sieghard

I did not say your information was not helpful to new voiceover users. I said
the information was irrelevant to the original question, which was how to
answer and end a phone call on iPhone without voiceover being enabled.
When answering questions on these list, I think it's important to keep your
focus on the question that is being asked by the original poster, and not
include information that is irrelevant and can cause confusion.

since the original question was how to answer and end a call on the iPhone
without VoiceOver, all the references in Richard’s instructions to various
VoiceOver gestures are irrelevant, and do not apply when VoiceOver is disabled.

Simply put, to answer a call when VoiceOver is disabled, one should first
locate the Answer call button, and either tap the button once, or perform a
one-finger slide action from left to right.
To end a call when VoiceOver is not running, simply locate the End call button,
usually located immediately below the Zero on the telephone keypad, and perform
a one-finger tap on the button.
That’s all there is to it.

Hi Rena,

Richard Turner, who is a frequent good source of information on the list gave
us this information about gestures for sighted folks in October:

* VO Gesture for answering the phone, 2-finger double tap, Light dependent
gesture, 1 finger slide left to right, or tap on the answer button.

* VO Gesture to end a call, 2-finger double tap, Light dependent gesture, tap

* VO Gesture for context menu, either double tap and hold, or a 1-finger triple

I hope that helps!

since the original question was how to answer and end a call on the iPhone
without VoiceOver, all the references in Richard’s instructions to various
VoiceOver gestures are irrelevant, and do not apply when VoiceOver is disabled.

Simply put, to answer a call when VoiceOver is disabled, one should first
locate the Answer call button, and either tap the button once, or perform a
one-finger slide action from left to right.
To end a call when VoiceOver is not running, simply locate the End call button,

Hi Rena,

Richard Turner, who is a frequent good source of information on the list gave
us this information about gestures for sighted folks in October:

* VO Gesture for answering the phone, 2-finger double tap, Light dependent
gesture, 1 finger slide left to right, or tap on the answer button.

* VO Gesture to end a call, 2-finger double tap, Light dependent gesture, tap
the end call button.

* VO Gesture to scroll the screen sideways, 3-finger swipe sideways, Light
Dependent Gesture, 1-finger swipe sideways.

* VO Gesture to scroll screen up or down, 3-finger swipe up or down, Light
Dependent Gesture, 1-finger slide up or down.

* VO Gesture for context menu, either double tap and hold, or a 1-finger triple
tap, Light Dependent gesture, 1-finger long press.

I hope that helps!

Take care and stay safe!

Hello,

I need to know how to answer a call and finish a call without using voiceover.
I need to help my mother who never used an iPhone. I changed my 6S for the SE
and gave her the 6S to her.

Thank you for any help,

Withings Thermo app link and description

2021-02-08 Thread Richard Turner
Here is the info in its own thread to avoid getting lost in the Mistake thread.

Withings Thermo:

https://apps.apple.com/us/app/withings-thermo/id1108420798

Manual Temperature: If you don't own Withings Thermo, or simply want to enter
additional temperature readings, you can do just that. Simply select "Manual
Temperature" and add your details.

Ask Thermia(tm): An educational tool developed by Boston Children's Hospital,
Thermia(tm) provides recommendations on when it's time to see a doctor and as
well as advice on proper medications and dosages.

Yes, Richard also posted the app description and I believe the link. It should
be clear from the app description that you have the correct app.

Connect your smart bluetooth thermometer to track the temperature.

* You see it says you have to have a Smart Bluetooth thermometer ... and if you
did, VoiceOver would likely speak the plus sign as an Add button.

Perhaps you should check for the infrared thermometers that talk so no app is
required. Check out Independent Living Aids or LS products.

2021-02-08 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
It probably asked to allow it to use the microphone which many apps do. I
haven't cchecked, but it's of course possible that you can enable SIRI
shortcuts or something like that. I wouldn't worry about it, just let it access
the microphone and all will be well.

I do not have it as yet, but it shows the results in the app on your Apple

It does not speak itself.

survey. Did you look around the screen to make sure you had no messages about
an item you forgot?

Hello Sieghard
On that point: I received an email from Sonos asking me to take part in a
survey. I answered the questions and then there was an edit field for a further
comment where I pointed out that I am a bit disappointed with the support
system of Sonos. Unfortunately nothing happened when I tried to activate the
submit button, so I suppose I have more ground for my view that there support
is not up to standard for a company selling such excellent products.

I would, however, point out that one should probably not use the link to email
the CEO with basic tech support questions. I am sure that the CEO is not
actually checking that email himself anyways or he would be doing nothing but
reading emails all day and probably still couldn't read them all let alone
reply!

I went to the contact page and used the link:

He forwarded my note to a support person.
I was able to ask several follow-up questions by replying to that email.

Sieghard has also had good results calling them.

Hi Richard sorry for the stray reply I didn't mean to send it privately. My
apologies.

did you initiate support through a web form or an email address?
Interestingly you can actually duplicate favorites in My Sonos between stations
that appear in Sonos Radio and Tune In I did that to compare to see if there
was any difference and there is not. I've already written to TuneIn themselves
but will contact Sonos as well. As I said i"m curious how you initiated your
contact. I'm assuming everything starts with web forms these days.

I cannot help with the second question as I am quite new to Sonos.
I noticed that the TuneIn issue is that Sonos is tied to the regular TuneIn not
even the TuneIn pro app.
I have TuneIn Pro from the days when they would let you record shows even
without paying for premium. So, my long list of favorite stations are in TuneIn
Pro. When I got the Sonos speakers, none of those favorites were there.
I downloaded the regular TuneIn, added a few favorites, and wala, they showed
up on Sonos.
And yes, it seems that Sonos Radio either overlaps with TuneIn, or actually
moves them from TuneIn into the Sonos favorites.
I do not have TuneIn Premium, but if I were you I would use airplay to send
TuneIn to the speakers to avoid the ads.
Or, if you didn't, ask Sonos what is going on. I found after writing the
executive, who forwarded my question to someone in support, they were quite
fast in replying to my questions when I just replied to the support email.

Hi Rena,

Richard Turner, who is a frequent good source of information on the list gave

* VO Gesture to end a call, 2-finger double tap, Light dependent gesture, tap

* VO Gesture to scroll screen up or down, 3-finger swipe up or down, Light

I hope that helps!

Bug in Native Weather App

2021-02-08 Thread Bill Gallik
Ran across a bug in the native weather app on my iPhone 8, iOS 14.4. Here is
how it manifest:

- Naturally, opened the Weather app
- Have the “hangover location” set to Iron River, WI.
- Always, always have to activate “Edit Cities” and return to view all
pertinent data. (Not the bug here)
- In “Edit Cities” from Fahrenheit to Celsius.
- Upon returning to first screen, the current temp is noted in Celsius, but the
daily High and Low remain in Fahrenheit.
- This also works in the inverse process where setting the temp scale to
Celsius initially, the first screen will report current temp as directed, but
the High and Low temps remain in the previous scale.

RE: Apple watch Polar compatibility?

2021-02-08 Thread Simon A Fogarty
It will depend on the tread mill,

There are a number of them these days that do work with IOS devices,
You would have to either research on line for one or talk to a sales person
that could give you what you need to know.

Yes, like Janet, I got all the answers, but could only spot a couple of flowers.
And I don't know if it is an "Americanism", but I have never heard of the term

Hi,
The answer to the first clue on the hidden flowers puzzle is Everglades.
The answer to the second one is masterful.
The answer to the third clue is hostage.
The answer to the fourth one is Upsadaisy.
The answer to the fifth one is minimums.
The answer to the sixth one is satirists.
The answer to the final clue is prosecutor.
I’m not sure how flowers tie into some of these, but I see how they do in
others. For example, in satirists, I see the flower name Iris. In minimums, I
see the word mums.
Hope this helps!
