RE: accessible accessories to make a dumb exercise bike a smart exercise bike

2021-03-03 Thread Simon A Fogarty

I got my self a wahoo fitness HR monitor
I can’t remember the model but it works great with the Wahoo fitness app on my
phone or an iPod touch,

To ad to this I got a Wahoo cadiance and speed monitor which has three parts,

The main body with the sensors
Attaches to the main bike frame,
On the bottom bar of the back wheel support,
So it can pick up both the rear wheel spinning an the pedal going around,

There is a little rubber band thing with a sensor device in it that goes on the
pedal arm,

And another little sensor that attaches to the spokes of the back wheel that
then like the sensor on the pedal arm gets picked up by the main wahoo sensor
that is on the bottom wheel arm 9bracket),

This uses Bluetooth 4 in my devices case to connect to the wahoo fitness app on
my phone or ipod touch and picks up how fast the back when is spinning,
And also how fast you are pedalling.

These feed in to the app and together you can get a pretty good view of your
workout data,

The app does take some getting use to and I would advise playing around with it
to setup the appropriate workout for yourself,
And then once you have the hr monitor and caidance device,
You can pair those to your app.

Hope that helps.

Oh and the wahoo app is very accessible but full of a lot of stuff.

Cheers,

Subject: accessible accessories to make a dumb exercise bike a smart exercise
bike

Hello list,
So as the subject line states, I’d like to make my “dumb” exercise bike
smarter. I’ve poked around online and there appear to be lots of resources on
this topic since I like a lot of other folks don’t’ feel like shelling out the
big bucks for a peloton along with the subscription.
I’ve got a 15 year old Schwinn recumbent bike that is still holding strong and
am not looking to upgrade as long as it’s still working. Even then, I think I’d
be more inclined to buying a more traditional bike for when I next upgrade
instead of something that’s Internet connected where with any sort of app or
firmware update, it can become inaccessible just like that.
Anyway, getting to my question, has anyone tackled this dumb bike/smart bike
project? Can they recommend any iOS accessible tools to get for measuring heart
rate, speed, distance etc.? I’m not an Apple watch owner and have no desire to
get one and would be perfectly fine with a stand-alone heart rate monitor. My
understanding is that Wahoo fitness stuff is the way to go to get connected,
but again and as always, what’s accessible for us? iOS app/service?
Thanks,
Cristobal

I would think that the phone in your pocket would track your steps if you
enabled that in the health app, or a pedometer app.
And, doesn't the Fitbit track heart rate if you do not want the Apple Watch?
Just some thoughts.

How judge-mental and offensive of you to call those who want iPhones with large

You know nothing of these individuals and why they may want an iPhone with a

iPhones have an expiration date. to make your money go as far as
possible,
by the latest model soon after it comes out and hang onto it for a long
time. I bought my iPhone 7 in October 2016. If 2021 will be the last year
it will receive a full iOS update, then I will have had a fully updated
and
functional device for six years. Few companies in the technology industry
continue to support devices for this long. I have not changed the
battery
and it still lasts for a day of use. I am actually looking forward to a
mini iPhone when I replace my 7.
The market for used or refurbished iPhones is pretty robust. They sell
for
a lot less than what they did a few years ago because of all the
discounting, rebates and payment plans for new iPhones.

I recommend holding off and waiting until the 13 comes out. There are
a couple of reasons for this. For one thing, the LIDAr is rumoured to

It would be interesting having a iPhone with 1tb of storage,

However iCloud only gives you 5gig of storage free so backing up a 1tb phone
would be somewhat costly.

their iPhones are lazy asses who can’t be bothered in moving photos and videos
off their phone and onto their computer. Similarly, they are lazy in not
wanting to rotate music out of their iTunes Library and transferring more music
into it.

Re: saving up for a new iPhone, should I purchase the 12 pro, or wait for the 13 to come out.

2021-03-03 Thread Kelly Pierce
I bought an iPhone 7 in 2016 with 128 GB of storage and it has served
me well. I have enough room for all the music I would ever need on a
week’s long cross country trip with plenty for photos, videos and
voice memos. That being said, big storage is rather popular. I wanted
to upgrade to an iPhone Mini and the 256 GB version was completely
sold out and backorders were not possible because of the high demand.

For those who read 9to5Mac, I did state though that those who crave 1
TB on their iPhones are lazy asses who can’t be bothered in moving
photos and videos off their phone and onto their computer. Similarly,
they are lazy in not wanting to rotate music out of their iTunes
Library and transferring more music into it.

Re: New Echo

2021-03-03 Thread Daniel MacDonald
Helli,

The dot to dot podcast is a great one to listen to. It[s demos of various echo
skills. Also for more in-depth demos, the echo show podcast is good. It would
help us if we new what kind of Echo you have. As far as enabling video skills,
that is limited to echos with screens, the echo show and it’s variants, and
the echo spot. The echo show comes in five, eight, and ten inch sizes. The only
echo you can watch Amazon is the echo show. To enable some skills, go to the
amazon Alexa app to more. You’ll find an area called skills and games. You can
also enable skills by voice if you know the skill name.

New Echo

2021-03-03 Thread deidreandlouise
Hello all,

Someone gave me a gift of a new Echo. Some basic set up has been done today.
I've read some helpful info from emails Amazon keeps sending me and I've
been on the Amazon site which gives a list of things to look into. Some of
what I am told to do isn't fool proof, perhaps due to human error.

I cant seem to get at the place having to do with enabling
video such as Prime Video or Netflix. I've got both Apps on the phone and
naively thought I could use Alexa to activate those apps. It doesn't seem to
work that way! I followed instructions from a hard file as well as where
Alexa tole me to look, that were supposed to get me to TV and Movies under
Skills and Games, I think, but I never got there.

Under the section in settings for Communication, I did check off various
music services and podcasts and Tune In stations I listen to and Alexa was
able to find those. I can't however find the place to do that with video, TV
and/or movies I am subscribed to.

I really did imagine that I could tell Alexa to do things like open Bard and
continue reading what I was reading last. I assumed the Echo device was
totally privy to everything on my phone, as if it had a mirror image of it.
H, I'm smiling. Still I did manage to do a "drop in" message to my
brother's own Echo and he was indeed notified he had a message and when he
asked Alexa to play it, there I was on a live recording which is what I
chose to use as the medium.

I look forward to learning to do as much as I can with the
Echo "hands off.

Any tips anyone can provide about which sources are most
reliable and easy to follow would be greatly appreciated. This will take a
systematic approach to getting things set up at more than the most basic
level.

Re: Facebook App Update

2021-03-03 Thread Duane Steele
Oh my goodness. I had just gotten used to the last FB update that still had the
tabs at the bottom. I rely on Facebook to stay connected with family and
friends. So I won't update unless somebody can tell me if some of the APPS out
there that used to exist to work with Facebook still do. There used to be an
APP I think called Friendly that worked with it. Thanks for the info.

False Alarm Regarding Facebook App

2021-03-03 Thread Tom Lange
Hi all,
I posted recently about a radical change to the look and feel of the Facebook
app. I have no idea how the layout got all messed up on my iPhone 12, but I
rebooted the phone and all is well. So, disregard my earlier post. Maybe
this’ll teach me to stay off the app for a while, lol.

Facebook App Update

2021-03-03 Thread Tom Lange
Hi all,
Has anybody noticed a radical change in the Facebook app today? I used it this
morning and it was fine, but just now I went back into it and it looks as if
the interface is completely different. Gone are the familiar tabs at the bottom
of the screen, so I can’t get to notifications, newsfeed, et cetera. It’s a
godawful mess. I removed and redownloaded it and it’s still messed up.

Creating an iCloud Email Address

2021-03-03 Thread Mike B
Hi All,

Running an SE2020 phone with iOS 14.4. I'm trying to create a new iCloud
email address but, after I've entered the preferred email address and double
tapped the, Done button, I get a message stating, there was a problem
turning on your email, try again.

I'm not getting a message stating this email address has been used or
anything like that, so, how do I get this email account created? All help
is greatly appreciated. Thanks much.

Stay safe and take care. Mike.

They should be in your Safari Bookmarks, just like the others.
You may want to explore and see if you have inadvertently saved them to a
folder within Bookmarks.

Re: What is audio ducking?

2021-03-03 Thread Mike B
Hi Kimberly,

Lower audio volume of programs while Jaws speaks

When selected, audio from other programs will be reduced while JAWS is
speaking. This is commonly referred to as audio ducking. This check box is
cleared by default and is only available in Windows 8 and later. You can
also press INSERT+SPACEBAR, followed by D to toggle audio ducking on or off.

Stay safe and take care. Mike.

Hey all!
I wanted to write and ask a few quick questions as we continue developing
Supersense!
First, we're working on adding something that will describe the visual aspects
of an image. Would you prefer a textual description, like alt text, or would
you prefer to explore the image on the screen of the phone similar to Seeing AI.
Along the same lines, we're almost finished with our column detector, and our
developers are curious to know if you'd like to see the layout of the document
(which info is in which columns) or just the properly-translated text.
Let me know what you think, and thanks for your help!

I prefer text descriptions and always knowing what column I'm in when reading
the information. Lastly, I'd love to see something like a color recognizer,
but not just colors, patterns and shades of color too. Is that something that
is in the works?
Thanks,

RE: Supersense Feature Questions

2021-03-03 Thread Richard Turner
Shane,
Seeing AI provides both, the text and an option to explore by touch.
Both would be good, but if one isn't going to be included, leave out the
explore by touch and just include the text.

As for columns, the only point would be to have it accurately rendered. To me,
that includes knowing if you are in column 1 or 2, or 3...
Thanks,

Richard

Subject: Supersense Feature Questions

All the best,
--
Shane Lowe.
