I’ve felt the SE 2020 last time I went to the Apple store and it isn’t bad.
That will probably be one of my next phone choices when my 6S stops working.

Richard, thank you. I had the terms mixed up. I had already turned suggestions off, but the other settings will fix everything, I’m sure. On Apple's 45th birthday, here are some of the most memorable moments in the company's history: 9 to 5 Mac

2021-04-01 Thread M. Taylor
On Apple's 45th birthday, here are some of the most memorable moments in the
company's history

By Parker Ortolani

45 years ago today Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak, and Ronald Wayne founded Apple
Computer. Today it's the most valuable brand on planet earth and is valued
at more than two trillion dollars. It commands culture, cultivates
creativity, and defies norms. It's a company unlike any other. It's easy to
forget how we got here, so I periodically like to take a look back at
Apple's rollercoaster ride of a tapestry.

As a lifelong fan, Apple means the world to me. As a human being, it's quite
literally defined my life and the lives of billions of people. Apple enabled
all of the companies that make the world go around. Usually, publications
look back on product announcements that ended up changing the world.
Instead, I wanted to spend some time looking back at special moments in
Apple's history that aren't product announcements. From major events in the
life of Steve Jobs to the most epic leaks, here are some insanely memorable
moments in Apple history.

May 19, 2006 | Apple's flagship 5th Avenue store opens its glass doors
Today Apple has more than 500 stores all across the globe, but one store has
always held a special place in our hearts. The Fifth Avenue Apple Store,
often referred to as 'The Cube' has always been the most iconic of the
bunch. It first opened its doors in Spring of 2006 to massive crowds that
would keep coming back for every major subsequent product launch.

Steve Jobs himself was there with his wife Laurene and opened the doors for
the very first customers. Also there was Ron Johnson, Apple's head of retail
at the time. That iconic photo of Steve looking up at the Apple logo you
sometimes see, was taken on that day.

The Fifth Avenue Apple Store has been an important piece of Apple's history.
It's Apple's biggest landmark on the east coast and it's a regular
pilgrimage for Apple fans. Over the course of its almost 15 year life, it
has been welcomed tens of millions of people. Apple loves to note that the
store has welcomed more people annually than the Empire State Building or
the Statue of Liberty.

May 30, 2007 | Steve Jobs & Bill Gates sit down with Walt Mossberg & Kara
Swisher for a legendary interview
Walt Mossberg and Kara Swisher are well known for their legendary tech and
business conferences All Things Digital and Code Conference. Steve Jobs was
a regular guest at the conference back in the day, but in 2007 he sat down
alongside Bill Gates with Walt and Kara to talk about their relationship and
their two companies.

This was the first time since 1991 that the two men sat down together for an
interview. The two had the chemistry of an old married couple, they made
hilarious jabs at each other but also recognized the incredible achievements
that each had made.

July 11, 2008 | The App Store opens, changing software forever
The day the App Store opened changed everything. On the first day it was
open, the App Store only offered around 500 apps for iPhone and iPod touch.
It debuted with apps like Twitterrific, the first Twitter client and games
like Super Monkey Ball, one of the first real accelerometer-led games. The
App Store instantly powered up the iPhone and the iPod touch. It breathed
new life into iPhone OS and right from the start it was clear that it would
turn out to be something big. I remember downloading iPhone OS 2.0 and
installing apps like Bubbles, Super Monkey Ball and Remote for the first
time.

The App Store has since become home to more than 2 million apps from
developers all over the world. It has created entirely new industries and
enabled entire billion dollar companies like Instagram and Uber. The App
economy, as its sometimes referred to, has completely changed the way we
live and work.

April 19, 2010 | Gizmodo shares photos of iPhone 4 prototype left in a bar
Apple has always been a target for leaks and rumors, but in April of 2010
Gizmodo landed one of the most important. Brian Chen, a reporter for
Gizmodo, got his hands on an iPhone 4 prototype that an Apple engineer had
left in a bar. I remember the moment the article went live and I devoured
it. I'm sure many of you reading this did too.

The device had been hidden inside of a secure case that made it look like an
iPhone 3GS. But that didn't fool Gizmodo. After removing the case, Gizmodo
discovered the entirely new glass and steel design. It also revealed the
front-facing camera, the infamous antenna band, and it was running an
internal beta build of iPhone OS 4.

It was clear at the time just from looking at it that the device was real.
It was too detailed, too polished, and far too "Apple" for it not to be
real. Sure enough, John Gruber over at Daring Fireball called around to his
sources and learned that it had been lost by an Apple employee, and the
company was eager to get it back. Unsurprisingly, Steve Jobs himself got
involved in the situation and personally attempted to get the

Re: Peacock tv

2021-04-01 Thread Charles Spicer
I just signed up for Peacock Premium and have tried to use it on my
iPhone. I have not had very good success so any advice from you guys
on the list will be very much appreciated. I also have an Amazon Fire
TV and it is my understanding that Peacock is not yet available but it
can be "sideloaded". Has anyone had any experience with this or do
you have any ideas of how I can use Peacock on my Amazon Fire TV?
Thank you!!!
Charles

Re: new phone

2021-04-01 Thread Gerardo Corripio
Enjoy! I'm sure you'll fall in love with this model! Sound is awesome! as well
as the size, and still have Touch ID to work with. I've had this one since
June, and and am very happy with all it offers! So far, no complaints.

RE: Siri's stubbornness

2021-04-01 Thread negi4a
Hmmm, Siri just went back to normal earlier today. I’m very happy because it
saves me so much time, swiping and typing.

Aside for playing music, forwarding and back warding by time or a song, I use
it for playing podcasts, checking the time, open apps, search for apps in the
Appstore, search google, defining and spelling words, initiate calls, managing
alarms and reminders, create events, sending messages or sometimes emails,
convert measures and so on. Implementing Siri in apps and shortcuts makes it
pleasant experience. I think Siri is a bit underestimated. Fact, it could be
much better. and I hope Apple will succeed in improving and making it at least
useful as the competitors.

Something is definitely going on with Siri. Last week I couldn't even have
Siri open an app, but it fixed itself after about a week.

Hi,

Siri is very stubborn last few days. Till a week ago I had no problems adding
song or albums to my custom playlist using just my voice. Now Siri says “Sorry,
I wasn’t able to add so and so to your playlist”. It was very convenient, but
now each time I must go to the phone, unlock, and go through all this process
manually. I didn’t change any setting. Is there an explanation for this
stubbornness? Or do I need to do something to restore the previous state.

Thats interesting. My iPhone made an Extras folder by default that contained a
lot of stock apps.
It never made a Utilities folder on its own.

Ask Siri to "open Voice Memos" and it will open.
You can find where it is later.
But that should get you started.
It may ask for permission to use the microphone.

I'm looking forward to when I get my new iPhone to see if a newer battery will
work for me better then my 8. I usually charge the battery once per day. If
I'm not using my iPhone but still have it on, I find that if I lock my iPhone
the battery stays charged better.
If I leave my iPhone unlocked the battery drains rather quickly.

RE: How to stop suggestions when using edit to enter new phone numbers

2021-04-01 Thread Richard Turner
Hi Shirley,
Persistence will pay off, hang in there.
First, I think maybe want you want is touch typing, where you touch the
keyboard and don't lift your finger until you are on the letter you want.
Slide-to-type is always making suggestions as you are sliding around which is
fine for sighted people, but I find it rather distracting.

Here are the settings I recommend, for what it is worth.

Under Settings, General, Keyboard:
Turn off suggestions, turn off predictions, and turn off slide-to-type.

Under Settings, Accessibility, VoiceOver, Typing:
Select Touch typing.
Just below that is Typing Feedback. I suggested for software keyboards, select
Words. You will hear each character as you slide your finger, but you will
then hear the word when you hit a space or enter punctuation.

Under Settings Accessibility, VoiceOver, Verbosity:
Under the tables section, turn off row and column headers.

HTH,

Richard

I'm trying to enter new contacts in "Phone." Suddenly, I'm unable to select
letters for the name because I keep getting all kinds of suggestions. Example:
Hiram turns out to be "His" "hello" and so forth. I must have touched something
that set or unset something. I prefer slide to type, but it isn't working. (At
least I think it's called slide to type. It's where I can slide my finger and
only input the letter where I raise my finger.)

Obviously, I'm struggling to use this Iphone. Please help!

Also, this phone has been opening aps when I'm not even near it. What's with
that?

I'm determined to conquer this-with help?

Hey andy,

Welcome to the real world,

Manufacturing of these types of things is done in countrys such as China due to
the lower costs of living and salarys paid to the workers.

This is why countries like the UsA don’t build cars anymore as it has gotten to
cheap to build them in other countries,

Mind you I’d rather have something from Motor city and makes the noise of a
real car as well as is structurally tough when you run in to someone,

Rather than one of the tin foil cars you get from say japan that you probably
can’t hear.

And also apple products,

I think they use Chinese children
Who have very little fingers
So they can get in to the very tight spaces in those iPhones etc to put the
very little screws in.

i just received an Email update from UPS telling me that they will arrive

manufacturing their products in China rather than here in the U. S.

The only issue with cash reader, if it is the one I am thinking it is, it has
either a subscription, or a lifetime charge of about $18.

Unless you need non-US currency, there is no benifit to paying for Cash Reader.

If it is a different app, please send either the developer or an app store link.

I assume this is sarcasm but American automakers are using the same materials
and manufacturing processes now that the Japanese are, which produces a much
better car then it did decades ago, so it’s no longer true that Japanese cars
are cheap and made out of tin foil while American cars are heavy and well
built. I also doubt Apple is using hand tighten screws in their iPhones let
alone the fingers of Chinese children. If so then it would be more than the
head phone jack that was limiting the thickness of the iPhone.

And also apple products,

I agree the company has a markup and takes in some profit off of the devices
they sell, but this profit doesn’t automatically or directly go into the
pockets of the shareholders. You only have to watch the performance of the
stock market in the last year to see how disconnected stocks are from a
company’s actual health and performance.

the cost of an iPhone is the total of parts and labour, and I suggest is a
minuscule percentage of the price you and I pay. The cumulative dollars between
manufacture, delivery, and storefront comprise the total of company expenses,
and the remainder enriches the shareholders, who take home obscene profits.

so, what's wrong with this picture. You could still have your iPhone,
presumably at the same price point, if the manufacturing was done domestically
by well-paid fellow citizens and the shareholders would still, I'm certain,
smile all the way to the bank. Apple is not the enemy, the Corporation only
does what it shareholders tell it to do.

Capitalism is about seizing opportunity, and clearly, the opportunity is our
obsession with Apple products which is carefully nurtured every day.

This schema really needs a rethink on behalf of North American working people,
or our future may be altered forever.

This is the trade-off you make by going with the lower-priced phone.

The iPhone SE 2020 is a solid choice. My wife has one, and I say you can’t go
wrong with this choice, if you want to go with a basic iPhone that still uses a
Home button.

As Richard pointed out, the SE 2020 is the same size as the iPhone 7 and 8, and
your 6S as well, though a case for the older models won’t fit the newer SE 2020
correctly, because the camera bump is slightly larger on the newer SE 2020.

Re: RE AirPods Max

2021-04-01 Thread Pete Nalda
Regarding an interesting thing that happened tonight involving my AirPod max. I
was walking through our building, and the dog park, well I had decided to wear
my ushenko cap, which is like a trappers hat, along with my trench coat as it
was brisk out and I noticed that the AirPods weren’t quite going up against my
ears because of all that fluffy fur. So that is something One can consider if
you wanted to wear it outside. But that’s a whole Nother ball of wax and we
decided that might not be such a good idea

Re: bathroom scale that connects to iPhone

2021-04-01 Thread Pete Nalda
https://store.getqardio.com/products/qardiobase Is where I was referring to. It
does just say out of stock, and not unavailable. Which to me is a good thing,
because they will replenish it. If it shows up on Amazon as unavailable, that
will probably change if they get them back in stock if you want to go through
Amazon. I’m a little funny about that you know now, as I’m starting to think
well why not just go to the horses mouth as it were an order from The
manufacturer

Apple seemingly likes to put a few apps in a folder from the factory which

Ask Siri to "open Voice Memos" and it will open.
You can find where it is later.
But that should get you started.
It may ask for permission to use the microphone.
