Thanks Richard. I have a couple of friends that told me I need to get tw,
so now I will. It is too bad that the app that Zoom recommends is not that
accessible. I can't remember the name of it. I really appreciate your
input. Thanks. I was just reading this back and I can't believe that I
managed to get the word, "that" in a sentence 3 times. Time to move on to a
new word.

  Kay,

TW Recorder and Dolby On both offer monitoring that works with that
microphone.

TW stands for Twisted Wave recorder.

That is what the earphone jack on the mic is for as far as I can tell.

Otherwise, you would hear VoiceOver.

It could be that it would also play the recording if you had an app that
allowed for monitoring the recording.

Their software does that, but it is not very accessible.

I think Dolby ON allows for monitoring.

I will check which ones that I have allow monitoring.

Stay tuned.

Re: podcast recording on iPhone

2021-04-20 Thread Kay Malmquist
Richard,
I realize that your mic is not the same model as mine, but I discovered
something in the users guide that I found on line. On mine there is a
rectangle piece of plastic around where the lightning plug is. It is
slightly smaller than the actual body of the mic. They refer to this as a
case adjuster. You can pull it off and now your lightning plug is longer
and it will fit through the case so you don't have to take it off. I don't
know if yours has this, but I thought I'd tell you about it in case it does.
Hope this helps.

If it uses a lightning port and the case is very thin, or easily removed.

The post on the microphone is very short, so I have to remove the simple
case I have on my SE 2020 in order to use the microphone.

There are probably others out there that use more of a cable to connect.
But, I do not know what they are.

I know Klyph and others have proclaimed the positive features of WALTR2, but
that was on the Mac and I use Windows.

I had some moments in pursuing the WALTR Pro (soon to be released update of
WALTR2,) trial for Windows and was close to giving up in frustration when
Malcom Parfitt sent me their direct support email address.

Malcolm also gave me some pointers about using it with Windows, but mostly the
encouragement to stick with it.

After writing them directly, and getting quick and helpful replies, I got the
trial copy installed and saw that it could be a useful program.

I then pursued buying a license for the WALTR Pro version which as they
explained will be the updated version of WALTR2. Once I got the license key
for the Pro trial and entered it, it updated to the lifetime version.

I decided the real test would be could I more easily transfer an audio book in
zip format directly into Voice Dream Reader, wirelessly, than with iTunes File
Sharing using cables.\

The answer is a resounding YES!

I used WALTR Pro to browse to the zip file on my computer and hit enter.

I then had the choice of just sending it to my iPhone SE 2020 or pick which app
I sent it to.

I selected to choose the app, which is Voice Dream Reader.

I hit OK.

IN about 30 seconds, I heard the tone that meant it was transferred.

I checked Voice Dream Reader, and it was there, but not yet available.

Within 2 minutes, and I think perhaps less, it was available. This was a 3.5
hour zipped audio book.

This took far less time and far less mucking about with iTunes to get to the
file sharing and go through all that.

Plus, no wires were used.

I will try music that I want in my music library later and see how it does, but
this is a great start and made the price of the software well worth it.

Subject: WALTR and Softorino Support are excellent!

Malcolm also gave me some pointers about using it with Windows, but mostly
the encouragement to stick with it.

I decided the real test would be could I more easily transfer an audio book
in zip format directly into Voice Dream Reader, wirelessly, than with iTunes
File Sharing using cables.\

The answer is a resounding YES!

I used WALTR Pro to browse to the zip file on my computer and hit enter.

I then had the choice of just sending it to my iPhone SE 2020 or pick which
app I sent it to.

I will try music that I want in my music library later and see how it does,
but this is a great start and made the price of the software well worth it.

Hi everyone.

If I say I'm going to buy a new iPhone again, please tell me not to do it!
Setting up the new SE gave me and Hope a lot of trouble.

Frontier Communications is working on wires and poles in my area and I think
the internet was going in and out causing some of the trouble. We had to get my
stuff from the cloud which took quite a while. Every time I opened an app, I
had to enter user names and passwords which I never did before. Today I wanted
to get into an app not so accessible so Hope entered the stuff for me. The
first day I had the phone, voice control got turned on without me knowing and
my phone went crazy repeating everything I said and most from the TV. I turned
it off in a hurry and all is right with the world.

The end result seems to be a good working phone which I am enjoying now that
the set up is complete. I like this little phone a lot.

Stay tuned.

If it uses a lightning port and the case is very thin, or easily removed.
The post on the microphone is very short, so I have to remove the simple case I
have on my SE 2020 in order to use the microphone.

There are probably others out there that use more of a cable to connect. But,
I do not know what they are.

That is what the earphone jack on the mic is for as far as I can tell.
Otherwise, you would hear VoiceOver.

Does this Cable for the iPhone Exist?

2021-04-20 Thread Jim Fettgather
Hi to the list.

At one time, I had a patch chord that would connect to the iPhone through a
3.5 inch adapter and then to the lightning plug through an adapter to the
output of the iPhone..

The other end of this chord was a USB connector.

This chord would somehow magically allow the iPhone to be seen as an
alternative input device, thereby allowing me to record directly from the
iPhone onto the PC using any recording program.

I have looked and looked all over Amazon, but cannot find this chord again.

As I say, it was wonderful to be able to record the audio output from the
iPhone right on to the PC.

Just curious if anyone knows about this type of chord, or what it might be
called, or does it still exist?

Any assistance appreciated!

Thanks.

Any recording app will do a good job.

Which Microphone do you have?

WALTR and Softorino Support are excellent!

2021-04-20 Thread Richard Turner

One of the more impressive free apps is Dolby ON for great
recordings. It is worth trying, and you can do videos within it.

Yes, the Videos will use whatever microphone you have whether it
is the built-in one, or an external mic.

While the transcriptions are not perfect, the $5 Just Press Record
does good recordings and will try to transcribe the spoken words.

Of course, the built-in Voice Memos does a fine job of recording
as well.

And if you use the regular video setting in the Camera app, it
will use the built-in stereo or the external stereo microphone for the audio
portion of the video.

You will find tons more info on applevis.com

Mac Big Sur and mission control and command+tab

2021-04-20 Thread Juan Hernandez
Hi All,

I had a question about Mission Control and Mac Big Sur. Is it possible to have
cmd+tab just switch between windows in the currently active (space), virtual
desktop?

In windows, I can alt+tab, and if I have mail, and chrome open in desktop1,
and outlook and word in desktop2, alt+tab will just toggle me between mail and
chrome, and when I switch to desktop2, it’ll toggle me between outlook and word.

Right now, I can put apps in different spaces, but when I cmd+tab it switches
me through all open tabs.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Best,

Juan

Re: podcast recording on iPhone

2021-04-20 Thread Kay Malmquist
Well, I'm back. I got the mic and it seems to work, but I can not get any
sound from the monitoring jack on the mic to come out. The only thing I
hear is voice over from my iPhone. When I listen to the recording I have
made, I can hear the volume being adjusted and everything else that I am
playing back through the recording. I was just using the voice memos app.
Any ideas?

It has a lightning plug that goes in the lightning port.

So, just for iPhones since that is an exclusive Apple plug.

Here is a link to their page with a bunch of other stuff including a
microphone for Android devices.

Hi Peoples,

Today we are venturing in to a new possible catastrophe. If I, like
a million other people want to create a podcast and I wanted to record on my
iPhone because I have a really neat adjustable stereo mic that plugs in to
my iPhone via the lightning plug, what app or app would I use? And for that
matter, what would be the best way to just simply record things on my iPhone
that I might want to keep? Also, could I use said microphone if I created
videos? Thanks for all thought about this.

Re: Question about Amazon Alexa and app

2021-04-20 Thread Daniel MacDonald
Hello, I use my echo show 10 for voice purchasing all the time. What do you
have to do to get voice purchasing working, it's ago on the Amazon site to one
click settings after you log into your account and you have to make sure that
it's enabled. You also need Amazon prime, or voice purchasing will not work.
Thanks, regards, Daniel

Re: how do I change Apple Watch voiceover speech rate using a finger gesture?

2021-04-20 Thread Shirley Baker
You can twist your fingers on the rotor as on your phone. That also works for
the volume too. I have done this many times on my watch.

RE: WALTR2 and WALTR Pro on Windows need iTunes, according to their support team

2021-04-20 Thread Richard Turner
Klyph, have you ever heard the expression, he opens his mouth to exchange feet,
grin.
You said, and I quote: "ess I should have keptt my mouth shut since I don't use
windows!lol
But we do not need iTunes or the music app with the windows version."

I laughed out loud knowing you meant with the Mac version.

Have a wonderful day.

 Dear Richard,
It turns out that at the moment WALTR 2 and WALTR PRO only work correctly if
you install the proper iTunes version.

Just like you - we are pretty bummed by having to install additional iTunes
drivers. But there's no avoiding it:

Windows computers do not belong to Apple's ecosystem. This means - that any
Windows app that wants to access your iPhone (notwithstanding the model) needs
to use Apple Mobile Support drivers. They are usually installed on your
computer in the same pack with iTunes. Naturally, WALTR 2 for Windows and WALTR
PRO for Windows have to use these iTunes drivers as well.

It's important to download the exact version offered by Apple and not Microsoft
Store.

Let me kindly inform you that the trial both for WALTR 2 and WALTR PRO lasts
for 24 hours, but we're able to extend it for another 24 hours if you want us
to do so.

Feel free to write us back if any questions arise :)

I talk to them on a daily basis, and yes the pro version will be available

Apparently there is a WALTR Pro in the pipeline since WALTR2 has not been

It is available for pre-order on their site, but I read a review dated in
November 2020 that gave it very high marks and they did not indicate it wasn't
a release version, so I'm confused.

I sent an email contact form yesterday and got the message that I should watch
my inbox because they respond quickly.
24 hours later, no email and nothing in the junk folder from them.

So, I'm wondering if anyone has experience with their support recently, asay
during Covid?

Hello Richard,

I have never had to wait more than about 7 hours for support but usually far
less than that.

I understand WALTR Pro should be released soon.

What is your question, perhaps I’ll have more luck in contacting them as a
subscriber?

Softorino and WALTR2 support

2021-04-20 Thread Richard Turner
First, has anyone use their support system?
I called the number, and instead of asking you to leave a voice mail, they ask
only for your name and email address; clearly not 24/7 phone support by any
standard definition.

Apparently there is a WALTR Pro in the pipeline since WALTR2 has not been
updated for 4 years.

Your battery will drain more slowly, but you will turn off several features, go

I'm obviously using a-lady instead of her name in case she is listening.

 function.
You have to have the ringtone copied to the clipboard for the steps below.
Open iTunes with your phone connected via USB.
Open the phone item in iTunes, tab to the tree that shows the phone
options and either type “t o” or arrow down to Tones and tab a couple
three times to get to the treeview where the tones live,
Paste the ringtone and you should hear the sound that confirms something
 has happened on the phone.
Now, check your phone’s ringtones and it should be there.

Thank you Daniel.
I’m not interested in beta testing, though I’d absolutely love it if apple
fixed whatever issue is causing the Iphone 12’s not to charge wirelessly and
also if they could make it so you could pick where you wanted voiceover to go
when using Bluetooth over the speaker or over the phone speaker.
I talked with apple accessibility on these issues today, they routed me to
Apple technical support who had never heard of voiceover nor did they
understand the charging issue, nor did they understand Bluetooth.
The guy even said to me “just plug it in” when I was trying to describe the
charging issue, if I wanted to do that and I liked that option I wouldn’t have
even brought it up.
Very frustrating to say the least especially as the charging issue wasn’t
disclosed when I bought my phone, it is apparently very common with Iphone 12’s
and I’m told to “just plug it in”.
Really?

Below are the instructions on how to get ring tones on your phone from a Mac
  1. Connect your iPone/iPad to your Mac with the USB charging cable.
  2. Open the window where the custom ring-tone resides.
  3. Press cmd-n to open a second Finder window where you select your iPhone
from the Sidebar.
  4. Navigate to the window where the custom ring-tone resides. You can use
the Window Chooser or cmd-accent to get there.
  5. Interact with the table or browser and navigate to the tone. Do not use
arrow navigation, but do use VO-navigation.
  6. Once you are at the tone, press VO-cmd-f5 to route the mouse to the VO
location. You may need to include the fn key as well.
  7. Press VO-cmd-shift-space to invoke the mouse-down action.
  8. Use the Window Chooser to navigate to the iPhone window.
  9. Navigate to the item that announces the name of your iPhone/iPad, how
much space is used and its charge level. On mine, it's the item that's one
VO-right after the edit field with my iPhone/iPad name in it.
  10. Press VO-cmd-shift-f5 to route the mouse to the VO location. Again, you
may need to add the fn key to this combination.
  11. Press VO-cmd-shift-space to toggle the mouse-up action.

This drops the tone and will immediately copy it to your iPhone. It will
show up in the tones section of Sounds & Haptics for your use.

Hello list,

*I’m reposting this because I messed up the link at the bottom of this post. I
hope I did a better job this time around.

I recently learned about a product from Orbit Research. It is a very small
Bluetooth Braille keyboard called the Orbit Writer.

It can remember being paired to 5 different Bluetooth devices at one time. It
can also remember 1 USB device.

For example, I plan on pairing the Orbit Writer that I just ordered to one
iPhone, and two different Windows computers via Bluetooth. The device
remembers paired devices so you do not have to waste time pairing every time
you want to switch to a different phone, PC, iPod, etc.

This pocket size Braille keyboard is around 6 inches wide by 3 inches deep by ½
inch thick It is not a Braille display. It is not even a note taker. It is
just a Braille Bluetooth keyboard that one can use to operate all functions on
a smart phone and many other devices via Braille input over Bluetooth. I do
however, doubt if it would be of much value trying to operate a smart phone
camera because one would need to hold the phone in their hands for acurate snap
shots.

It has a centrally located connection place for a lanyard. When using a neck
lanyard, the user can use all functions of their smart phone via Bluetooth
while standing in line for what ever. This is of course if the user has their
smart phone near by. Like in their pocket, purse, or back pack.

They cost $100.00, and they are available at AT Guys, Orbit Research.com, and I
think LS and S.

Note, AT Guys has a $25.00, TPU snap on case for the Orbit Writer that protects
the device like a smart phone case protects a phone. This TPU case has
openings to allow the Micro USB port and lanyard connection holes to be
accessed. And, the top is open so the user can make use of the Perkins style
keyboard and the navigation ring that controls fast forward, rewind, up and
down. And there is a button in the middle of the ring that performs multiple
options. All of the positions on the ring also perform different options
depending on what you are doing.

I primarily plan on using my iPhone as a note-taker, and to do email and things
on the internet. It can control all smart phone or iPod and PC functions
without any swipes or taps.

Anyway, I am posting this in case some one is interested. And, I am very
curious to find out if any of you have heard of the Orbit Writer? I think it
was released back in August of last year. I think by an Australian company.

Here is an AT Guys link for the Orbit Writer:

Hello list,

It is the same as on the iPhone. Do the rotor with two fingers until you hear
speaking rate, and flick up or down with one finger.

RE: A relatively new Bluetooth Braille keyboard

2021-04-20 Thread Christopher Chaltain
Yes, I got the Orbit Writer this past winter. I got it primarily so I could
have a Bluetooth keyboard I could slip into my pocket and then use with my
phone when I was out and about. I haven’t used it as much as I thought I would
yet because I’m not out and about much yet, but that’ll be changing here as
time goes by. I find that it works as advertised but it does take some practice
and getting used to, especially if you want to use all of the keyboard
shortcuts to use VoiceOver commands and avoid touching the screen as much as
possible.
