Re: How to delete a bookmark on the Mac?

2021-05-05 Thread Bill Gallik
Hello (again) Ann,

I grew up in northern Wisconsin; in fact, on the property where I reside now.
I bought the family home from my Mother’s estate in 2018. So much for that old
quip, “You can never go home again” because I most certainly have.

As for Winter, if you ever went into the Winter Co-op you very likely ran into
my oldest sister or my brother-in-law; she was the “Produce Manager” and he was
the overall store manager from the mid-80s until about 15 years ago. What a
small, small world it truly is!

I am so sorry to hear of Bonnie’s and Judy’s passing. I do recall that Bonnie
was not in particularly good health. But, nonetheless, it is sad to hear of
their passing. I had kept in touch with Donna until about 10 years ago, glad
to hear she is still kicking.

Perhaps you are aware of the help feature on the Mac, but I’ll offer this tip
anyway just in case. For help on the Mac you can type in VO-H and VO-HH for
considerably helpful documentation for working on a Mac using VoiceOver. There
is a wealth of “how to” information even though it is terribly dry reading.

And, finally, I’m so glad my response to your predicament did help! I always
enjoy helping others resolve difficulties - in the computer world and in life
in general although I don’t get much opportunity in the latter case. ;-)

It was great hearibg from you.

RE: Scanning money

2021-05-05 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Cash Reader has a Setting at the bottom of the currency list which says "All
Currencies". If selected, the following description is given:

In this mode Cash Reader compares your bank note with 610 bank notes of all
currencies it can identify. Therefore it is necessary to show as much of the
bank note as possible to achieve the correct identification. Hold your phone in
one hand and a banknote in the other hand. To be sure that your back camera is
pointed at the banknote place the hand in which you hold your phone on the
wrist of the hand in which you hold the banknote . This approach is easy
creates an ideal distance for reliable identification. All All at once
identification is less reliable. Select currency whenever possible.

I for one don't typically deal with multiple currencies all at once and
typically not even in one day so I don't find it an inconvenience to select
just Canadian Dollars and whenever it is I can travel again and maybe go to
Europe or to the Philippines with my wife I can always select the appropriate
currency at that time. Then of course I only ever use Cash Reader if I have a
larger stack of money maybe from my retail store which I have to count.
Canadian currency is also made from a polymir material, virtually
indistructable and each banknote has a 6-dot braille symbol, $5 has one, $10
has two side by side, $20 has 3, $50 has 4 and $100 has two, but they are the
left most and right most of the $50 so the middle two are missing. If I have 20
or 30 bills I still may find it faster especially if the bills aren't oriented
the same way and I have to first of all look for the markings and even with our
tough currency the dots can be hard to feel especially if a bill is often
folded and folded multiple times. If I select Canadian currency I find it makes
no different which side of the bill I show to the camera and it typically even
works if the bill is folded. As far as apps go Cash Reader is on the expensive
side, but I find it is worth it.

Best regards,
Sieghard

It is very sad that Cara and her team could not get Money Reader back up and
running.
I’d gladly pay for it again as it did not require you to pick a currency before
identifying it. It was smart enough to know from the scan.
Even Cash Reader requires that you pick the currency rather than just figure it
out.
Unless I’m missing something really obvious here, which will not surprise me.

In the previous messages I do not think anyone mentioned that EyeNote is for
only US currency. Cash reader is for a large number of currencies.

Here is the info on it.

Cash Reader is free to download. The free version limits the identification to
the lowest two banknotes for each currency.
Full version identifies all banknotes for the growing number of currencies. You
can purchase the Full version within the app at any time.
See the app store page for updated currencies and languages.

I don't know about Seeing AI and I can't say for sure Cash Reader would do a
better job, but Cash Reader gets regular updates and each time there is an
update there is mention that either new currencies are added or that others
have been updated to deal with newly designed bank notes etc.

2021-05-05 Thread Ann Byrne

Ah, Bill,

You mistake me for someone who knows what she's doing! How do I get
to the sidebar??? I am doing web testing with the PC, the Mac, and
the iPhone. I really struggle with the Mac, since I don't use it
regularly. I have books to help, but they are mostly from 5 years
ago and the system has changed since then.

Things are putzing along down here. Donka classes are all remote, of
course. The other teachers are using Zoom; I am connecting by either
JAWS tandem or NVDA remote, and phone. Not easy, but it
works. Bonnie and Judy both died some time ago. Kim was fired. So
the only Donkettes you probably know are Leanne and I and possibly
Rick. Donna is still in Florida. she had a cochlear implant some
years ago, and it's working but not enough to write home about. Ray
Campbell is working. don Davia retired a few years back. Everybody
is getting older. Which sucks, in my youthful opinion.

Hope you are doing well. we used to spend two weeks each summer at a
family-owned resort near Winter, which is near Hayward. I loved the
trees and the lake, but winter in Winter would not be a favorite
experience. Radio reception was terrible, as I recall. Iron in the
ground, maybe.

Do you love northern Wisconsin?

I will try your instructions. wish me luck with the stinker!

Hi,

To me paying 18 a month is pretty expensive. So if you pay $18 a month that is
$216 a year and if you pay this for three years that come to $648. So to me you
would almost be buying a new iPhone 12 in three years. In two year you would be
shelling out $432. With that amount you could send it in an get anything fix
and still be money ahead by not paying for insurance.

Do you have Allow hey Siri when locked on.
You may also want to look at the new setting concerning announce messages. That
may only be for certain headphones, but give it a try.
You still may have to unlock the phone, but let us know.

RE: Apple Care+ or other insurance products.

2021-05-05 Thread Alan Lemly
Mr. Ed,

That’s why I asked the question. If you assume Apple Care Plus covers for two
years, $18 a month times 24 months is $432 and $15 a month times 24 months is
$360 under the cell phone provider insurance plans so Apple Care Plus doesn’t
seem quite as expensive.

Hello,

It depends on the phone. For my iPhone 12 I pay $18 a month. For some of the
Android phones my son has had it was %15 a month.

Hello,
I have T-Mobile as my carrier. I do get the insurance they offer because it
lets me upgrade once a year. I have had to make a few claims for my son when he
dropped his phone and shattered the screen. It went very well. I paid a
deductible and they sent me a phone to replace the one he broke.

RE: Apple Care+ or other insurance products.

2021-05-05 Thread Mr. Ed

RE: Scanning money

2021-05-05 Thread Richard Turner

You

To get to the Currency channel in Seeing AI, you touch the bottom middle of the
screen, assuming on an iPhone, and you will probably hear something like,
Channel, Short Text.
Flick up with one finger to go through the other channels.
If you have never used a channel, you will have a window open with an
explanation of that channel and an option to watch a video of the developer
using/explaining it.
Just do the scrub gesture or find the close button near the top and double tap
before touching that bottom middle position again and flicking up.
There are 9 channels.
IN the app setting which you can get to by double tapping the menu button, you
can reorder the channels and even remove those you will not use to simplify

Re: Apple Care+ or other insurance products.

2021-05-05 Thread Wayne Merritt
I've also used the phone insurance offered through AT&T. I think they
cover 2 incidents per year. IMO, if you take reasonably good care of
your phone and use some common sense, that should be enough. I forget
the year, but when my wife had an iPhone 5 many years ago, she damaged
the phone somehow and the insurance sent her a brand new 5S. She's
been careful not to lose the phone. She has dropped the phone before,
so now both of us have Tek Armour screen protectors, which are
high-grade and bullet proof. We also put cases on our phones. Both of
these have protected the phones from most drops. If we leave our
phones somewhere then that would be an issue, but over the years she
has gotten better about this. I usually have several places my phone
could be around the home and don't lose my phone that often. To each
their own. One other thing; when my wife had the iPhone 7, she did
shatter her screen. I can be ridiculous about keeping packaging, but
when you get a new phone each year, they often come with some papers
or sticker you have to include when you send the old phone back. When
we came home with our new 7's, my wife through away the special items
from the new phone's packaging. So, when she had to return the
shattered screen phone to AT&T, she didn't have the particular return
label or item to send with it. I remarked to her that Apple would take
the damaged phone in whatever condition, and she ended up getting a
trade-in on it.

Kindly,
Wayne Merritt

2021-05-05 Thread Bill Gallik
Hi Ann,

This is Bill Gallik now back in northern Wisconsin - formerly from Wheaton.
Here is what you need to do to delete bookmarks:

1) Open Safari (of course)
2) Focus and open Side Bar
3) Select and activate the Bookmarks Radial Button
4) Now tab to the resulting “Bookmarks Scroll Area” and open
5) Tab to and open the Bookmarks Table
6) Scroll up and down the table until focussing on the desired Bookmark(s)
7) Using the Delete Key, remove select Bookmark

NOTE: I do believe that if all the Bookmarks you want to delete are in a
particular Bookmarks folder and no other Bookmark(s) that you want to retain,
you can remove that folder and that will get rid of all contained Bookmarks.

Hi Greg,

Thanks for your reply about T-Mobile insurance for your iPhone and your claims
experience. How much do you pay for the insurance and is it monthly or a one
time payment. It's hard to make a meaningful comparison with Apple Care Plus
without knowing the cost.

I find that Apple Care Plus now is so expensive especially if you
have a Pro phone that I personally don't buy it any more. I have my
iPhone insured as part of my home insurance where it is listed as a
separate item and I think it's something like $30 or $40 a year. The
good thing in my opinion is that for one thing this also covers loss
or theft and secondly if I keep my phone for more than 2 years I
still have coverage whereas Apple Care Plus is done after 2 years.
Of course you have to check with your particular insurance company
what all the conditions are, e.g. if you did have a claim, would
that effect your overall home insurance rate, what exactly is covered,
 e.g.
what if you drop it and the screen breaks etc. I did loose my iPhone
6S Plus many years ago and my home insurance paid me the full
purchase price at the time without fuss and I didn't even have to
send in a receipt or anything, they sent me a cheque and said it was
up to me what I wanted to do with it, e.g. buy a new iPhone 6S Plus
or a different phone or whatever.

As of January 22, 2018, the updated EyeNote. 3.0 app is now 64-bit and works on
Apple mobile devices that support iOS version 9.1 or greater. These include
Apple iPhone. 5 and newer models, 5th generation iPod. Touch and later
generations, and iPad.2 and newer models.

  * Utilizes VoiceOver for vocal and gesture feedback if it is turned on for
the target iOS device.
  * Privacy mode communicates results with an audible beep or pulse pattern.
  * Runs without any special filters or background material
  * Does not require a data connection all processing on device
  *   One touch, hand-held operation
  * Identifies face and back of note in any orientation
  * Camera flash is not required
  *   2 to 4 second response time
  * Supports English and Spanish languages

Scanning Notes:
To complete a successful scan, the note should be positioned 6 to 8 inches away
from the camera. The app must scan more than half of the note to recognize it.
Adequate natural or artificial lighting is required for proper scanning, for
ideal scanning conditions limit hand movement to reduce image blur. For best
results, place the note on a flat surface. In Privacy mode, the app will not
speak the denomination, but will communicate results back to the user with a
pulse pattern (see below). On the iPhone, Privacy mode uses the vibration
buzzer for the pulses. On the iPod Touch and iPad 2, Privacy mode uses an
audible beep for the pulses. The patterns follow an easy sequential pattern:

  * One Dollar is 1 pulse.
  * Two Dollars is 2 pulses.
  * Five Dollars is 3 pulses.
  * Ten Dollars is 4 pulses.
  * Twenty Dollars is 5 pulses.
  * Fifty Dollars is 6 pulses.
  * One Hundred Dollars is 7 pulses.
  * Error, reposition is 8 rapid pulses.

Also, in the iOS Settings/Eyenote, you can toggle a settings menu on, so you
can change from Speak, Tone, or Pulse in the app itself.
Make sure you set your device correctly:
Go to Settings, then Sounds. There are 2 Vibrate setting switches on this
screen. At the top of the Sounds screen there is Silent, with a vibrate switch
setting; this switch does not matter for the EyeNote to vibrate. Scrolling down
the screen there is another Vibrate switch just above Ringtone. This Vibrate
setting has to be set to ON for EyeNote to vibrate on an iPhone.

I've also used the insurance I get from AT&T, which I get when I pay for my
phones on installments. The process was very straightforward. I used this on an
S7 when the battery started to swell. Note that there's a limit to how many
claims you can file in a certain period, but I don't recall the details.

scan money at this point?

Thanks.

I have the google My Business app and accessing reviews and messages works well
for me.

The app has 4 tabs along the bottom: Home, Customers, Profile and More

If you tap on the Customer tab, you then have a heading called "Customers at
the top, on the top right is a "More" button which contains Send Feedback,
Messaging Settings and Cancel

Then if you swipe right from that button you have 3 tabs: Reviews, Messages and
Followers.

If I double tap on Messages all the messages I have received show up and just
as in the Messages app or Facebook Messenger I can double tap a conversation, I
then can attach a photo, type a reply and when I'm done tap "Send".

If you want to reply/comment on a review you tap the review, type your
comment/reply and then look for the "Save" button near the top. It's all very
accessible.

Good morning: I just downloaded the app called Google My business on my iPhone.
The app essentially sends me a message when some one has a question on my law
website. The problem is that I get the notification that there is an inquiry
but can't read the message. Is anyone familiar with this app and how to use it?

Thanks.

EyeNote money identifier from Bureau of Engraving and Printing, Free

As of January 22, 2018, the updated EyeNote. 3.0 app is now 64-bit and works on
Apple mobile devices that support iOS version 9.1 or greater. These include
Apple iPhone. 5 and newer models, 5th generation iPod. Touch and later
generations, and iPad.2 and newer models.

* Utilizes VoiceOver for vocal and gesture feedback if it is turned on
for the target iOS device.
* Privacy mode communicates results with an audible beep or pulse
pattern.
* Runs without any special filters or background material
* Does not require a data connection all processing on device
*   One touch, hand-held operation
* Identifies face and back of note in any orientation
* Camera flash is not required
*   2 to 4 second response time
* Supports English and Spanish languages

I don’t’ know the current price of Tiles, but Airtags seem a tad bit expensive.

But, AirTags have a replaceable battery, which unless they have changed, Tiles
did not.

I would like someone to do a comparison of the sound volume.

When Tiles were fairly new, I thought they would be a great thing for some of
our older clients, but the sound was so low volume they were next to useless.

It seems from the demo at the Apple Event, that you can track them more
accurately than the Tiles.

That is all I know, and guess.
