This is since updating to the latest iOS, which I did just recently from the
latest version of iOS 14. I went through various settings with an Apple
accessibility rep, who wasn’t successful at solving this. Not that it’s a big
deal, but I liked my incoming Saud :-) thanks.

It's not an overlay,

It's the 3rd level of the workout app,

If you flick to the very right hand end of that level
You will hear 3 of 3

At that point flick down a level to 2,
Then put your finger on the screen at that point and it should tell you one of
those measurement levels,
Then you can flick left / right to see what it's telling you.
It's a bug that came with watch os 8 and hopefully it will be fixed soon as
it's bloody annoying

I'm finding using siri to start the work out and or pause / restart the work out
Is easier than trying to press the buttons with that issue.

Subject: using workout on my Apple watch 5

Hi list,

I mostly use my Apple watch 5 to track physical activity. So when I go for a
walk or use our elliptical machine I start the workout app and then check
periodically to see my heart rate or find out how far I have walked. But since
the last upgrade when I go to check my status there is an overlay on the screen
from the music app or audio that wants me to interact with sound or music or
radio or whatever and I can't get to my workout data or pause or end my
workout. I want to make this go away but don't know how to. I like some of the
things the watch can do but I fine it hard to use. When I'm using the workout
app I want that to be primary. I'll listen to the radio when I'm done with the
walk.

Thanks for any help,

Joe

Re: Problem with Siri

2021-10-27 Thread CHELA Robles
Richard I have not connected my Echo Dot to the iPhone ever. The only things
that are connected on my Bluetooth speaker that is an offbrand small speaker
which is off and when in use, my Bose frames tempo. And I seem to be having
this issue with just the Bose frames tempo and the weird thing is that when I
don’t use my Bose frames tempo, Siri acts normal so I had to take Bluetooth off
or disconnect my devices to the Bluetooth which was basically what I did with
regards to the Bose frames. Then what I did was I invoked Siri and was able to
successfully change my current doctor appointment well not connected to
Bluetooth devices.

So does your lg tv have a screen reader built in to let you know where you are
on the menus etc?

Or you just let the wife drive those things?

And yeah the sonos app advises you to turn off the tv audio and set it as the
sonos audio only.

As I just posted, we bought an LG TV pretty much exactly a year ago and have no
issues with the TV and the Arc, but my wife did have to go into the TV settings
because by default after we hooked up the soundbar it was set for audio to come
from the external connection (the soundbar) and the internal TV speakers, but
once that was done all has been good. I spend quite a bit of time reading about
the slightly higher-end OLED TV's last year and more less had narrowed it down
to this LG and a Sony model, but the LG I felt had slightly better specs and
reviews and we have been very happy with it although I guess I should say my
wife has because I just benefit from the audio and it comes from the Arc. I
only briefly played around with the screenreader which is part of the LG Web OS
platform and I didn't really learn how to use it, but it seemed OK. One thing
the sales person at our local electronics store said was that he felt LG's Web
OS platform was more user friendly than some of the Android ones and this TV
has pretty much everything from Netflix, Disney and Amazon Prime to Apple TV
built in and we haven't used our Apple TV since we had the TV. But as I
mentioned, I only watch TV with my wife so she always does the driving so to
speak and all I find useful is to know how to do Play/Pause and turn the volume
up and down which on the LG remote are nicely shaped buttons in the shape of a
Plus and Minus symbol, but of course when I sit on our couch I just have to
reach out with my right arm to where the Sonos SL is mounted on the wall and I
can use it to turn the volume up or down as well.

The Sonos app is completely accessible.

If you can afford the roughly $650 for the Arc, (and have room for it) give it
a try. It has Alexa or Google Assistant if one wants it, and it sounds amazing.

IN fact, I would call Sonos and talk with them about issues that may be present
with LG and see if they have a solution.

the best in quality and sound upwards of hundreds of dollars to a thousand or
more. The Sonus ARC is quite pricey but most likely worth the cost if you
choose to pay that amount. I've not heard the Sonus Beam but people claim it's
quite good as well at a price tag of about $400. I'm looking at various models
of soundbars comparing various features ... but I'm very interested in how the
apps are accessible. I've got a LG TV and I find the LG apps less than
accessible. And, although I'd prefer the Sonus product ... I've read where the
Beam tends to have issues working properly with the LG OLED TV sound output.
Therefore, I'm also looking at Bose and Samsung soundbars but avoiding LG due
to their app issues. As a side note ... most lower quality soundbars or cheap
ones don't often work with Alexa. Working together with Alexa is a must for me.
I'm all about making my home smarter.

RE: Problem with Siri

2021-10-27 Thread Richard Turner
What happens if you forget the Echo device?

This is probably just a stupid Siri problem that will take a lot of
documentation and work to get Apple’s attention.

Well guys here’s an addendum to my issue, the weird thing is I don’t have a
HomePod I use my Bose frames tempo which is a Bluetooth headset sometimes when
I’m on the girl and this is where everything is obviously connected to another
and the phone is on the same network even when I’m here at home and I choose to
use my Bose frames tempo audio glasses. The message I get when I try to do
something like for example change my appointment time for the current
appointment I have with my eye doctor for example this is the message I get and
I’m not sure what to do about it.
I’ve restarted my phone reconnected to network settings after thinking that I
needed to forget the network and then reestablish connection with the network
but I’m wondering if it’s a Bluetooth issue because in advertently sometimes
Siri will be activated and I’m not even doing anything and it’s not even
plugged in to charge for example so it’s just weird Siri oddities I’m running
into.
Here’s the message:

Sorry, I'm having problems with the connection. Check that your personal device
is on the same Wi-Fi network as this HomePod.
I am really stumped make of it what you will. Again I do not own a HomePod nor
have I connected my Echo Dot 3rd Generation to the iPhone.

It appears that, using the second method, if you put in the email address it
will block email messages from that address as well. I forgot all about that,

Interesting. Have you gone into that setting to see if it had changed
since the update to 15? Sounds were not working for me either after I

Re: how do you block texts

2021-10-27 Thread Bill Gallik
Hi All,

That is certainly one of several ways to block text messages from a specified
source. There are at least two more ways to do this:

1) Provided the sender you want to block is in your Contacts, open the Phone
app, select the “Contacts” tab at the bottom, locate the offending contact and
open it, activate the “Edit” button and finally locate and activate the “Block”
button at the bottom of the contact dialog.

2) Or you can open “Settings” and activate the “Phone” item. Then locate and
activate the “Block Senders” button, in the resulting dialog locate and
activate the “Add” button and then simply fill in the telephone number you
desire to block.

Seems like there ought to be a simpler way to do this. I’ve done this using
both above methods and the method Dan suggested enough times that it seems easy
enough to me until I start giving written instructions!!! YIKES

Re: Turning off Apple Watch Voice Over sounds

2021-10-27 Thread Ed Worrell
If you turn the slider all the way down for alerts (in sounds settings on the
watch), Voiceover sounds are muted for a little bit. The volume of the VO
sounds sneaks back up after a while…

All most got it.

Is it not possible to turn off the Voice Over sounds on Apple Watch (6)
like we can do on iPhone?

 Thanks,

Hi folks

Some friends of mine report that the photo description function is less
accurate in ios15.
Can this be confirmed? If so, we have to report it to Apple as a bug.

I've tried it out myself and indeed in the photo app no descriptions are
read anymore and photo description is set to on.

2021-10-27 Thread Renee Patete
The good thing is that now you can turn off speech. I am so glad that I can do
that now, because I can make my watch much quieter when I'm out! I don't often
need it on if I'm just using taptic time anyway.

RE: Sound bar app accessibility

2021-10-27 Thread Simon A Fogarty
As I said I’ve got older play gear and the sonos 2 app is great with it,

And it’s used daily.

The older sonos app states it is for older equipment, the Sonos 2 is for the
newer equipment and both average 4-1/2 stars. To average 4-1/2 stars you have
to have a heck of a lot more positive than negative reviews
Did you look at the age of the negative reviews?
If they were recent, I would guess there are other problems going on.
I have no trouble with the Sonos 2 app; but I have somewhat newer equipment I
guess.

I would say go for that,

But then if you get the sonos1 app and it doesn’t work then sonos2 will be what
you have to use.

My question is about which iPhone Sonos app to use. I seem to recall that the
current Sonos 2 app was poorly reviewed when the switch occurred from Sonos 1.
There still appear poor reviews on the internet for Sonos 2 and Voiceover. Are
Voiceover users currently happy with the Sonos 2 app? If not happy then on
what basis?

Thanks,

Sorry, and yes, soundbars play sound from the TV, that is their original
purpose, you put them under your TV and depending on your TV it may
automatically turn off its internal speakers once you connect a soundbar or you
may have to go into the TV's settings and do this manually.
The Arc has an HDMI connection to the TV and I assume the Beam does as well, my
original Sonos Playbar which does not support Dolby Atmos or any digital
assistants but still has the 11 drivers like the Arc had an optical input so
you would go from your TV's optical out to the soundbar.
I actually have to still advertise my Sonos Playbar along with the set of Sonos
Play 1 speakers and the first generation wireless Sub which I had for quite a
few years before upgrading to the Arc with a set of Sonos SL and the latest
generation wireless Sub.
I'm quite bad sometimes when it comes to selling old stuff, I have had my
iPhone 11 for over a year and still have my iPhone 8 sitting around in its
original box, all wiped and reset and occasionally I charge it, really have to
get on this.

Just go to www.Sonos.com and you can check it there, both the Beam and Arc are
soundbars, but Sono sis also a lot more as you can use the app to play just
about anything on earth. I have never seen another company which supports as
many music services both paid and free ones and the Sonos app is extremely
accessible and the sound quality of all their speakers is fantastic. Bot the
Beam and Arc also support Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant although you still
can't have both digital assistants active at the same time.
Lastly, if you invest in a Sonos Beam or Arc and you later on want to add a set
of Sonos One or other speakers in a different room you can always add to your
Sonos system which will then allow you to play music in different rooms, you
can group speakers and play the same or you can play different things in

The Beam is a smaller soundbar, the item you are describing is the Playbase
which came out around the same time or maybe a bit after the original Playbar
and it does not look like Sonos is updating this, i.e. that they are releasing
a Sonos Base or whatever they would call it which then would have support for
Dolby Atmos and digital assistants.
In my opinion the devices to get right now are either the newly updated Beam or
the Arc.

If space is at a premium or the Arc is simply too expensive go for the Beam, it
was just updated so in terms of features it should be pretty equal and I am
pretty sure it also supports Dolby Atmos, just smaller and sort of like the
difference between a set of Sonos One and Sonos Five speakers, the Sonos Five

Soundbars range in price from the cheapest in quality and sound at about $99 to
the best in quality and sound upwards of hundreds of dollars to a thousand or

RE: Apple music and audio?

2021-10-27 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Yes, you can, whether the Apple Music subscription is worth the money it costs
only you can decide, but I think you typically can get a trial and even if you
pay from the start, you can always unsubscribe after a couple of month if you
find you don't like it. Spaceil audio works with all stereo headsets, but you
have to go to Settings > Music and turn on Dolby Atmos (that is what it is
called in the app), I think by default it is on "Automatic" or something like
that and this only works with Apple Airpods and maybe some of the Beats
headsets, not sure about that.
Keep in mind that at this point the selection of music which was recorded in
Dolby Atmos or which was remastered is still pretty small.

RE: Vaxination Card In Apple Wallet in Canada?

2021-10-27 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
I assume anybody with a phone which supports iOS 15 can do this provided they
upgraded to iOS 15.1 and that their vaccination card meets whatever standard is
required for this to work. I think Apple calls this "verifiable health record"
or something like this.
As you saw from the article I quoted the cards from some of the provinces can
be loaded into Apple Wallet and others can't or you have to use a work-around
as is the case with Ontario where a volunteer group of health professionals and
computer programmers came up with a way to do this.

How to: Save your Vaccine QR Code to iPhone’s Wallet App in iOS
15.1

Here is what it says in the article, it really is very short and no long and
complicated explanation is required:
The ability in iOS 15.1 to let you save your vaccine card to the Health app and
Apple Wallet means no longer showing a screenshot of your QR code.
Instead, you can quickly access your Vaccination Card from the Wallet app on
iPhone (double-tap the Sleep/Wake button for those with Face ID; double-tap the
Home button for those with Touch ID).
For those in B.C., we just verified the latter’s vaccine card QR code can be
stored in the Health app and Wallet on iPhone.
In a nutshell, all you need to do is aim your iPhone camera at your vaccine QR
code, then tap the link to open it in Health (it’s yellow), and tap “Add to
Wallet & Health”.
After that, you’ll have a spiffy Vaccination Card in the Wallet app, as seen
below: Vaccine card health wallet ios 15 1 (this of course is an image of a
vaccine card)

If your province or territory supports the SMART Health Card spec, you’ll be
able to add your vaccination card to both the Health app and Wallet app on
iPhone.
The SMART Health Card QR code format is currently supported in B.C.,
Saskatchewan and Quebec, and is a requirement of the federal government.
Those in Ontario can use this
tool
to create a version of their vaccine QR code to store in the Wallet app.
Some provinces such as Alberta and Quebec need to delete their QR codes and
download new ones, as they have been updated to support the Health and Wallet
app.

Once I read this I thought I give it a try and I must say true Apple magic
occurred and it took me all of 30 seconds and I had my COVID-19 immunization
record in my Wallet as well as in the Health app. I should say that it was easy
because I already had it downloaded as a PDF file and saved both in Dropb

I use the sonos 2 app and I have no issues with it what so ever and I have
older sonos play one and play bar equipment

I would say go for that,

But then if you get the sonos1 app and it doesn’t work then sonos2 will be what
you have to use.

My question is about which iPhone Sonos app to use. I seem to recall that the
current Sonos 2 app was poorly reviewed when the switch occurred from Sonos 1.
There still appear poor reviews on the internet for Sonos 2 and Voiceover. Are
Voiceover users currently happy with the Sonos 2 app? If not happy then on
what basis?

Thanks,
Jeff

I'm quite bad sometimes when it comes to selling old stuff, I have had my
iPhone 11 for over a year and still have my iPhone 8 sitting around in its
original box, all wiped and reset and occasionally I charge it, really have to
get on this.

tv? And can you knotice when you are watching tv that the sound is coming from
the soundbar? Also what is the cost of these? From Mich.

You should look at the Sonos Beam or, if the price is OK for you, the Sonos Arc.
Lastly, if you invest in a Sonos Beam or Arc and you later on want to add a set
of Sonos One or other speakers in a different room you can always add to your
Sonos system which will then allow you to play music in different rooms, you
can group speakers and play the same or you can play different things in
different rooms.

Hello.

I'm in the market for a soundbar. Can anyone tell me if the Bose app is
accessible? I downloaded the app to test it out but it wants me to register
with my device ... and I haven't yet bought a soundbar. I wanted to test out
different apps before settling on a device.

I thought the beam was much more narrow and sat in front of the TV. The only
one I've seen is the play base so could be wrong.

I think the beam is like a base you can sit the tv on if it's not wall mounted,

At least I think that's the one I looked at in a store here.

If you have the space and can afford it definitely buy the Arc, it's an amazing
soundbar.
If space is at a premium or the Arc is simply too expensive go for the Beam, it
was just updated so in terms of features it should be pretty equal and I am
pretty sure it also supports Dolby Atmos, just smaller and sort of like the
difference between a set of Sonos One and Sonos Five speakers, the Sonos Five
will sound a lot better, but they are also much larger and quite a bit more
expensive.

The Arc has 11 sound drivers, while the Beam has either 3 or 5.
The Arc is about 45 inches long.
I think the Beam is more than a foot shorter.
I would recommend checking them out in person if you can. Video Only carries
them but not knowing where you live or where they have stores, check around
with your local stores that carry audio equipment.
