RE: Question regarding bone conduction headsets

2022-03-11 Thread Marco Curralejo
I totally agree with Nimer. The Opencomms are by far the best ones to buy, both
for comfort, quality and durability. I’ve had my pair for around 14 months
without an issue, plus they offer a 2 year replacement if anything happens to
go wrong.

I’ve tried numerous other ones, but these are by far the best.

Hello Alan, and every one else,
Yes, the attention switch is off.
The more I use the iPhone, the better the face ID is working. I have been able
to open the iPhone in the dark!

Question regarding bone conduction headsets

2022-03-11 Thread Beth G
Hello all,

Sadly, it is time for me to buy my third pair of bone conduction headset. I’ve
had aftershocks first the titanium treks, and then the Aeropex. I like them,
and maybe roughly one year to 18 months is all the life I should expect given
how much I use them. However, I’m having a hard time justifying the cost for a
third pair. Should I go ahead and get a third pair, or are there other options
worth considering?

Thank you,

Beth

RE: New iPhone without tactile home button.

2022-03-11 Thread Alan Lemly
Chuck,

Go to Settings, Face ID and passcode, enter your passcode, swipe to require
attention for face ID and make sure it’s turned off. This should have been off
by default if you initially set up your iPhone 13 Mini with Voiceover running.
I haven’t heard that this setting affects face ID recognition in the dark but
it certainly makes face ID much easier for the visually impaired.

2022-03-11 Thread Jennie Facer
Hi there,

Unfortunately, I cannot answer too many of your questions. I use a Braille
display with Apple Books and don’t have that exact issue. I do have the issue
where it goes back to the place I was at, but it doesn’t advance to where I am
now. It just stays back there even when I read past it and then exit the app. I
started a Focus for reading, so maybe that will help. I haven’t had too much
luck with the cursor routing keys either. Not too sure what they would be used
for anyways. Hope this helps a little bit. It isn’t just you.

Re: best map app for announcing street intersections

2022-03-11 Thread Thom Spittle
I like Soundscape. It not only tells you the intersection but it gives you a
general idea on whether it’s a cross street or if it dead ends and it’s free
best used with Aftershokz or open ear headphones

Hi Chuck,

You might want to ask somebody who knows how to use Face Id to help you for a
bit until you get the hang of it.

Here is what I do:

1. I wake up my phone by tapping the screen, but if you have tap to wake
turned off which some people prefer then just press the side button
2. I touch near the bottom of the screen in the middle until I hear the
little two-tone and then as I look at the phone I swipe up
3. Face Id recognizes my face and I am instantly placed on the home screen

I am actually trying to remember how I can unlock my phone with Face Id and not
be put on the home screen, but so far I haven’t found a way to do this. Where
exactly do you end up after Face Id recognizes your phone and unlocks it?

I guess I'll have to keep trying.

Another thing that bothers me is when I would open my iPhone 8 with touch ID
the iPhone would go directly to the home screen.

With my iPhone 13 once it recognise my face I have to slide up from the bottom
to go to the home screen.

Is there any way to go directly to the home screen?

With your iPhone 8, you already pushed the button for the Home Screen, when you
entered your fingerprint; that is not the case with your face. It is so natural
now for me to slide my finger that I went to my phone to check to see if it was
necessary, and it seems that it must be. I never think about it.

Hello,
I have no problems getting into the phone, when it’s daylight, it just seems
like at night it doesn’t work, and I have to enter the passcode every time.
When I tap on my screen, or hit the side button, I hear a sound kind of like
the sound of the screen opening, and it goes to my lock screen, then I need to
slide up from the bottom until I hear two tones, and then it unlocks the home
screen.
I suppose this is no worse than just pressing the home button, but it takes two
hands for me to do this, with a home button I could use one.

2022-03-11 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Anthony is correct, if your Face Id is set up correctly and works well then it
can be absolutely and utterly pitch black without even a shred of any light,
e.g. you could be in a cave 100 feet underground with no artificial light and
it would work. To set up Face Id normal light maybe not a bad idea although it
is not necessary to do it outdoors and with sunlight as some suggest.

Hi Chuck,

I strongly encourage you to set up face ID on your new iPhone. Touch ID is
not available on iPhone swithout home buttons and having used phones with
both types of biometric identification, face ID works much better than touch
ID.
Good luck with your new iPhone and I hope FlickType Classic is working well

2022-03-11 Thread kevinwassmer
Hello folks. I know I haven't posted on here for a long time. I have some
questions about the iPhone and how it interacts with the Braille Display.
First, I have been reading a book on iBooks. I found the Braille display
works better with the iBook then Voice-over does. Here is a question I have
though. Why is it that when I exit iBooks and come back in iBooks let's say
about an hour or so. The Braille display will have the last few lines of
what I have read but then it will go to the first part of the current
chapter I am in. This is especially annoying when I am almost done with a
chapter and I have to exit iBooks and come back later. Also, how do I use
the find command when having my iPhone connected to the Braille display?
Cord F doesn't work very well. Also, can you use curser routing keys when
reading a book in iBooks. I haven't been able to do that. Thanks very much
for your help.

2022-03-11 Thread Chuck Dean
I guess I'll have to keep trying.
Another thing that bothers me is when I would open my iPhone 8 with touch ID
the iPhone would go directly to the home screen.
With my iPhone 13 once it recognise my face I have to slide up from the bottom
to go to the home screen.
Is there any way to go directly to the home screen?

both types of biometric identification, face ID works much better than
 touch

Good luck with your new iPhone and I hope FlickType Classic is working well

Hello everyone, I am wondering about using apple pay on a newer
iPhone without a tactile home button. Is there a specific place for
 scanning
 the fingerprint?
I understand these iPhone's have face recognition but I prefer to use
 a fingerprint, if possible.

Chuck;

That is absolutely not true.
I have used Face ID in a totally dark room and, it works just fine.
