Hello,

I have a page about the scanning stands I am aware of currently that are
designed partly, if not entirely, with the visually impaired in mind.

The first one on that page is the ScannerBin, which apparently now has an
additional component which is LED lights to make sure there are no shadows on
the document. I just wrote the guy who makes that one to see if it also has a
larger hole for the camera array; the model I have was made before the pro
iPhone models with the larger square camera array like on my 13 pro and so it
is awkward to get the camera level. Otherwise, a very ingenious heavy
cardboard box. You need to have the camera roughly 10.5 to 12 inches above the
document to get the entire page in view and many people have trouble doing this
free-hand, so a stand is very helpful.

https://www.turner42.com/ScanningStands.html

If interested in the ScannerBin, first check out his web site that is linked
from my page and read of the new features. I will post when I hear back from
him.

Pardon me if I sound excessively cynical, but I purchased one of these so
called “scan stands “in 2013 only to find I could have easily constructed
something much, much more robust with a shoebox.

My advice, don’t waste your money.

RE: Bug Resolved in Latest iOS Update: RE: A Question for Those Experiencing Siri Not Dialing Phone Numbers Beginning with Symbols

2022-08-26 Thread Kevin Minor
Hi Mark.

I originally ran into what I'll describe on an iPhone X. Since then I got an
iPhone 13 Pro Max, and iOS 15.6.1, and still have the problem, although I don't
think it's as bad.

Here's what I do to have it happen.

I use Siri to call someone in my contacts on my Watch. It works great.

I then decide to use my phone to call the same person I did on my Watch. I tell
Siri on my phone to call that person in my contacts. I don't know if it happens
every time, but often there is a long pause after Siri confirms things, then
the iPhone makes a nice little sound indicating I'm back on the lock screen,
which was where I started.

The only way I know to resolve this is to power off and back on my phone.

I'm almost positive this is iOS related, because I'm having the same thing
happen on both phones I use.

Anyone else running into what I am?

Have a blessed day and don't work too hard.

Kevin, Valerie and Jilly

Hello Kevin,

Interesting.

I updated to 15.6.1, earlier today, and everything is working as expected.

Are you using an 8 or a later model?

When you say that you are dialing numbers using your watch, can you please
explain? Are you initiating Siri on the watch and telling Siri to dial a
certain contact?

Beginning with Symbols

Hello Everyone,

I am just going to put this out there and if anyone knows of a solution, please
pass it on.

I have researched this bug, on the web, and a great deal of people are
reporting the problem. I, as yet, have not discovered a solution.

If the following makes no sense to you, then just ignore it.

In iOS15.4.1, Siri will not Dial Telephone Numbers that Begin with a Symbol

On some Wireless networks, one can selectively display one's CallerID by
inserting a prefix symbol sequence in front of a telephone number.

Please note that the prefix symbol sequence continues to function as expected
when one manually selects the phone number from the Contacts list or from the
Favorites page in the Phone app. The bug does not appear until one attempts to
use Siri to dial a contact, hands-free.

Steps to Reproduce the Bug:
1.
Create a Contact with a local telephone number that includes the prefix symbol
sequence of *31#. For example "*31#2125551212" (without the quotation
symbols.) This will allow the contact (John Doe) to see your telephone number
even when the show caller ID setting is disabled, in the Phone app.

2.
>From the Settings area, select the Phone app.

3.
Set [SHOW MY CALLER ID] to OFF.

4.
Say to Siri, "Call John Doe." Siri will respond with "Calling John Doe" and
the phone app will appear. After a few seconds, however, the phone app
disappears and no call is placed.

RE: thoughts on SE3

2022-08-26 Thread Karen Poulakos
I get about 2 days. But I’m not on my phone all the time. We have a land
line, so I use that for calls when at home. I prefer to use my laptop for the
Internet.

My iPhone is used for listening to an occasional podcast, reading an occasional
book, checking weather, banking, occasionally reading a product label, etc. We
haven’t traveled since getting this phone, so I don’t know how much the maps
would drain the battery.

Battery life is going to depend on how, and how much you use your phone.

Subject: A Question for Those Experiencing Siri Not Dialing Phone Numbers

2022-08-26 Thread Richard Turner
I'm glad it is better for you, but you are committing what I consider a major
offense, you do not specify the version number you are talking about.
I wish everyone would always say the version number and not just "the latest"
since that tells no one anything specific.

And don't mind Mr. Ed's mentioning of a "prescription", he does really mean
"subscription", but he is so old by now that he mixes up stuff all the time and
his Qardio doesn't even detect a blood pressure any more so if anybody wants
one for free just send him a private message and he'll send it to you (if he
doesn't forget) 🤣

As far as I know the prescription is for extra features. The Qardio Arm still
workds like it always did without any prescription.

Hello. I am looking for a replacement accessible smart blood pressure monitor.
I had been using the Qardio, but now they have gone to a subscription model,
and I don't see a need to pay for use of a product I had already purchased. The
monitor would need to be accessible , work well with VoiceOver, and integrate
with the Health app. What other monitors would fit my needs? A friend told me

Thanks in advance for all information.

RE: Accessible smart blood pressure monitors

2022-08-26 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hello Wayne,

It seems to me that you can still use your Qardio as always and that the
subscription for $9.99/month or $99.99/year in the US and $12.99/month or
$129.99/year in Canada is optional and just gives you additional features.

Here is what I read on the Qardio website:

important updates
Monthly detailed report provides month-over-month insight into your health.
Monitor medications
Add medication details including specific measurements, when/how to take
medications, and more.
Manage daily activities
Weather and air pollution information showing environmental effects on your
health.
Device replacement*
Replace your QardioArm device.

Why buy a new device if you can still take and track measurements as always,
personally I couldn't care less about monthly reports, medication reminders
(there are other apps for that and I assume including free ones and the
environmental factors tracking is also not important to me. As for device
replacement that is all nice and good, but I just checked on Amazon Canada and
it shows the Qardio regularly at $129.99 and currently available for $111 so I
can buy one for less than a one-year subscription. Have you actually tried to
use your Qardio and found it not working without the subscription? To me this
does not sound the way it should be, they still mention the basic app which is
free and lets you take measurements etc.

Best rregards,
Sieghard

RE: Reccomendations for an iPhone scan stand

2022-08-26 Thread Richard Turner

I will post when I hear back from
him.
