Re: Face ID hit or miss

2022-09-04 Thread Joshua Hendrickson
I set up my face ID in my room and don't really have any problems as
long as I have my phone positioned just wright. I do have my passcode
set up as well. Using my Hable makes this very easy if I need to
enter in my passcode to unlock my phone when face ID doesn't work, or
if I'm working with my Hable.

Thanks, all, for the replies and suggestions. I set mine up in a room where
there was good light, using VoiceOver, but my sighted husband was standing
behind me and he said it got a good scan of my face. Since I tried the
suggestion of holding my phone at arms length from my face I have had much
better luck. I most definitely prefer touch ID as you can even do that without
having to pick up your phone, but I'm getting more used to the face ID. I have
too much on my phone to leave it wide open, although it has been tempting in
the past.

RE: Snooze alarm.

2022-09-04 Thread Carolyn
I did get Siri to set it. I finally managed to get in there, with advice of an
iPhone user and techy guy, and turned off the Snooze option! I am way, way
happy now!

Hi.

A way to stop an alarm is with Siri. The way I do it is to tell it to remove
that specific alarm. If the alarm you're setting is for every day or weekdays,
it would mean setting it up again, but again, Siri is your friend.

Just a thought.

Have a blessed day and don't work too hard.

OK, are you trying to edit occur an alarm or add a new one? If you're adding a
new one, there is a picker, on mine that says 2 o'clock. I can easily flip up
or down to adjust the hour. Or the minute. And if you're in the alarm, the
snooze button is just directly past the sound button. And mine currently says
on.

I wonder if where one is when they initially set up face ID would make a
diference? I know it is not supposed to make that much of a difference, but I
do wonder. When I get a modern phone and want to set up face ID, I will go
outside, not in direct sunlight, but using outside light. Some people seem to
have little problem using it, others just can't seem to make it work
consistently. Maybe it is like those ocr programs, that only can do as well as
the scan they are given. Maybe some who have a problem with it gave their phone
a not so good scan of their face to start with. I know voice over said it was
okay, but maybe a better scan would work better. This is just speculation on my

2022-09-04 Thread Carolyn
I had to set up facial ID, Mich, on my iPhone 11, coming from the original SE.
The reason was that the SE had touch ID, and so facial ID had to be set up on
my phone. Somehow, the guy at Wal-Mart, where I got the phone could not set it
up, but I did. Now, people say it is not necessary to do it, but on a bright
and sunny January afternoon, I went to the west side of my building and set it
up.

Now, mine works in dark or light, with or without glasses, but, of course not
with a mask on. I would say it works at the very least, 80%.

Maybe they want to secure their phone or use Apple Pay in which case you have
to set up a passcode. Of course in my opinion anybody who sets up a passcode
should also set up Face Id as it makes it so easy to unlock the phone and even
if it only worked 8 out of 10 times (for me it's successful at least 19 out of
20 times) then that still means I can easily unlock the phone with Face Id most
of the time instead of having to type a passcode every single time which would
drive me bonkers. The fact is that I have way too much stuff on my phone to
leave it wide open. I also turned on the setting where after 10 failed passcode
attempts everything on the phone is erased.

Hi all,

Subject pretty much says it all. I just bought an iPhone 13 mini and have set
up Face ID with no difficulty; however, it seems that it'll work two or three
times and then will require me to use my pass code to unlock my phone. I am
getting very tempted to put my SIM card back in my SE 20 lol. It's much easier
to just reach over and unlock it with my finger than to pick up my mini and
hope I can get it to unlock without having to type in my pass code. Any
suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks for reading.

RE: Face ID hit or miss

2022-09-04 Thread Carolyn
I have it disabled too.

It is good that there is facial ID, because I had a friend being treated for
cancer, and the chemo-therapy had caused her to temporarily have no fingerprint
at all, so she had real problems with touch screens. So in her case, even with
facial ID, she might have had to be over dependent on Siri for a while.

Why don't you use Face Id, for me it works better than Touch Id ever did, but
of course that is partly because I do at time use my hands for physical labour
like woodworking, gardening and so on and whenever I put in a day in my
woodworking shop I could forget Touch Id for the next 2 or 3 days until either
the glue came off my fingers and/or all the little cuts and scraps had heeled.
Face Id is actually more secure than Touch Id and it works for me I would say
about 96 or 98% of the time. I do have th attention feature turned off I should
add, it makes it maybe slightly less secure, but both my eyes are prosthetic
and I often do not have them in at night. I have no issue with Face I d with
the attention feature enabled, but it will not work if it doesn't see the eyes
whereas it works just fine even in absolute darkness with that feature
disabled..

Best regards,

Sieghard

Hello,

A couple of things to try:

* Try holding it at arms-length away from your face,

* If you are wearing glasses, try with them off.

* If you did not register face ID that way, try
registering it again.

* Try using a microfiber cloth to wipe off the screen.
Sometimes, skin

oils can cause interference, if you hold the phone up

* Note that, on device reboot, you will certainly need

If none of these things help, I would probably go back

OK, are you trying to edit occur an alarm or add a new one? If you're adding a
new one, there is a picker, on mine that says 2 o'clock. I can easily flip up
or down to adjust the hour. Or the minute. And if you're in the alarm, the
snooze button is just directly past the sound button. And mine currently says
on.

RE: Snooze alarm.

2022-09-04 Thread Kevin Minor

Re: Face ID hit or miss

2022-09-04 Thread Arnold Schmidt
This is just speculation on my
part, I don't have a modern phone with which to experiment.

RE: question if you have a new phone and you set it up just like your older phone can you still use face id?

2022-09-04 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
You will be prompted to enter a passcode and set up Face Id during the setup
process of a new phone. If you wish you can skip it there and get everything
done first, then simply go to Settings > Face Id and Passcode and then set up
the passcode and afterwards set up Face Id.

RE: Face ID hit or miss

Do you have the attention aware feature turned off?

I would say face ID works for me about 50% of the time. for reasons unclear to
me, sometimes it will just completely not recognize my face and I have to reset
it. One thing that has helped me is to also set up the alternate face ID so
that essentially, it has two copies of my face. I know people say that it
should not matter if you are in a light or dark environment, but in my very
dark bedroom, it rarely recognizes my face. it certainly has gotten a lot
better with practice, but I don’t have quite the luck that Sieghard has had,
despite setting mine up per the instructions given on this list about six
months ago.

Face Id is actually more secure than Touch Id and it works for me I would say

add, it makes it maybe slightly less secure, but both my eyes are prosthetic

the attention feature enabled, but it will not work if it doesn't see the eyes

Hello,

A couple of things to try:
* Try holding it at arms-length away from your face, straight out in front
of you.
* If you are wearing glasses, try with them off.
* If you did not register face ID that way, try registering it again.
* Try using a microfiber cloth to wipe off the screen. Sometimes, skin
oils can cause interference, if you hold the phone up to your ear while on
a call.
* Note that, on device reboot, you will certainly need to enter your pin
again.

If none of these things help, I would probably go back to where you bought
it, or reach out to Apple, as it may be a hardware issue.

set up Face ID with no difficulty; however, it seems that it'll work two

phone. I am getting very tempted to put my SIM card back in my SE 20 lol.
It's much easier to just reach over and unlock it with my finger than to
pick up my mini and hope I can get it to unlock without having to type in
my pass code. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks for reading.

RE: Face ID hit or miss

2022-09-04 Thread Sieghard Weitzel

Best regards,
Sieghard

I agree with you, I'm not sure I'm fan of fice

sim card, why not just turn off passcode and face id? That'd be what I'd do.

Apple settles lawsuit with developer over App Store scam apps

Associate and affiliate partner on qualifying purchases. These affiliate
partnerships do not influence our editorial content.

Apple has reached a settlement with Kosta Eleftheriou, a developer who sued the
company over scams in the App Store
and copycat keyboards.

Eleftheriou is known for highlighting fake reviews on the App Store, as well as
the prevalence of scam apps. He developed FlickType, an Apple Watch keyboard.

He found an
abundance
of apps that copied FlickType, with these competitors even going so far as to
steal his promo videos. Eleftheriou expressed his frustration with the App
Store review team over the apps' copied-and-pasted reviews with five-star
ratings.

He sued
Apple
in 2021 after Apple released the Apple Watch Series 7. Thanks to the device's
larger screen, the company released a full keyboard for it with swiping
capabilities.

Apple rejected FlickType numerous times in the past but didn't remove the
copycat apps, and Eleftheriou said he lost revenue as a result. Eleftheriou
said he was in talks with Apple over a potential acquisition, and filed the
lawsuit when he found the Apple Watch Series
7 keyboard similar to
FlickType.

The suit further alleged that Apple does little to police the App Store because
it benefits from developers pushing high-priced subscriptions onto users.

According to a
report
on Thursday, Apple has settled the lawsuit with Eleftheriou. A request for
dismissal of the lawsuit was filed on July 21, 2022 after Apple and Kpaw, Inc,
Eleftheriou's company, finalized an agreement.

The terms of the settlement aren't clear.

Users can report scam apps in the App Store after Apple brought
back
a tool called "Report a Problem" in 2021. It's listed in the Information
section, alongside details such as age rating, category, and more.

Re: Snooze alarm.

2022-09-04 Thread joseph hudson
OK, are you trying to edit occur an alarm or add a new one? If you're adding a
new one, there is a picker, on mine that says 2 o'clock. I can easily flip up
or down to adjust the hour. Or the minute. And if you're in the alarm, the
snooze button is just directly past the sound button. And mine currently says
on.

When the alarm goes off, I find a clock button in the upper left corner of the
screen. Using VoiceOver actions, I flick down to stop the alarm, and it doesn’t
snooze. I’d have to look in the clock app settings, which you should be able to
get to in Settings -> clock, to see if there’s a way to just globally turn off

phone. I am getting very tempted to put my SIM card back in my SE 20 lol.
It's much easier to just reach over and unlock it with my finger than to
pick up my mini and hope I can get it to unlock without having to type in
my pass code. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks for reading.

Apple settles lawsuit with developer over App Store scam apps

AppleInsider is supported by its audience and may earn commission as an Amazon
Associate and affiliate partner on qualifying purchases. These affiliate
partnerships do not influence our editorial content.

Apple has reached a settlement with Kosta Eleftheriou, a developer who sued the
company over scams in the App Store
 and copycat keyboards.

Eleftheriou is known for highlighting fake reviews on the App Store, as well as
the prevalence of scam apps. He developed FlickType, an Apple Watch keyboard.

He found an abundance

of apps that copied FlickType, with these competitors even going so far as to
steal his promo videos. Eleftheriou expressed his frustration with the App
Store review team over the apps' copied-and-pasted reviews with five-star
ratings.

He sued Apple

in 2021 after Apple released the Apple Watch Series 7. Thanks to the device's
larger screen, the company released a full keyboard for it with swiping
capabilities.

Apple rejected FlickType numerous times in the past but didn't remove the
copycat apps, and Eleftheriou said he lost revenue as a result. Eleftheriou
said he was in talks with Apple over a potential acquisition, and filed the
lawsuit when he found the Apple Watch Series 7
  keyboard similar to
FlickType.

The suit further alleged that Apple does little to police the App Store because
it benefits from developers pushing high-priced subscriptions onto users.

According to a report

on Thursday, Apple has settled the lawsuit with Eleftheriou. A request for
dismissal of the lawsuit was filed on July 21, 2022 after Apple and Kpaw, Inc,
Eleftheriou's company, finalized an agreement.

The terms of the settlement aren't clear.

Users can report scam apps in the App Store after Apple brought back

a tool called "Report a Problem" in 2021. It's listed in the Information
section, alongside details such as age rating, category, and more.

RE: Face ID hit or miss

2022-09-04 Thread Star Gazer
I agree with you, I'm not sure I'm fan of fice
id either. You've gotten some good tips. Rather then mucking around with the
sim card, why not just turn off passcode and face id? That'd be what I'd do.
