Subject: moving apps

I mostly understand how to move apps around the home screen, to and from the
App library, but I do not always get the results I want.

I have a row on my home screen that is empty except for one app. I want to
place an app to the right of that one lone app on that row. I can’t do it
consistently.

I sometimes create folders without wanting to do so. VoiceOver announces “Drop
App X before (or after) app y, and that’s what I want to do, but when I
double-tap, I’ve created a folder. Then I have to drag an app out of the folder
to get rid of it.

Can anybody shed any light on what I might be missing in all this?

RE: Face I D not available?

2023-01-04 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Traci said it is an iPhone 13 Mini; iOS version was not mentioned, but it
shouldn't make that much of a difference.
I would say if Face Id says it is not available you might want to give Apple
Accessibility a call, they can send a request which allows them to see your
iPhone screen and I assume they would be able to help you troubleshoot this.

RE: moving apps

2023-01-04 Thread R Van Lant
I agree that it has become increasingly easy to accidentally create a folder,
even though I am sure I heard VO indicate that the app would be ready to drop
to the left or right of the app I’m on. In doing some cleanup this week, I
found that, if I was really patient and waited for VO to fully finished saying
the phrase “drop after blah, blah blah” and gave it one more short pause, my
success rate for getting the app where I wanted it was much higher.

With iOS 16.2, continuous reading in emails or webpages is awful.

2023-01-04 Thread Mary Otten
Ever since upgrading to iOS 16, I have noticed that continuous reading, invoked
with the two finger swipe down, is really bad. I used to be able to read hugely
long articles, but now it stops all the time. It seems to be triggered by
stupid punctuation things like bullets, as if I care. Does anybody else notice
this serious degradation in the ability to just read an article without all the
nonsense stop and start. The point of continuous reading is, well, continuous
reading. I have noticed this on an iPad mini six and my iPhone X r. It’s really
seriously annoying.

Re: What it Means when VoiceOver says the word, "Coupon" in the latest versions of iOS

2023-01-04 Thread Ed Worrell
Hello All,

I actually believe what is happening, is that the image detection/text
detection is being too verbose at times. It is seeing the layout of text and
images as a coupon. I have seen this and have asked my sighted wife to look at
it for me. Sometimes in apps or even in the iOS operating system there are
little images, not unlike emojis, that make the OS interface “pretty” for
sighted users. Sometimes Voiceover thinks it’s smarter than it has to be and it
announces this as a coupon, and I have found the only way to stop it from
happening is to turn off the text detection in the Voiceover Recognition
section of Voiceover settings.

Ed

2023-01-04 Thread B. J. Maynard

hi Mark and others,

For those experiencing this bug and I understand it a little because I have
a little background but, how could those that experience it report it in a
comprehensive manner to apple so that it gets fixed? I suspect this is
very anoying.

Steve,

As a former professional programmer, I would suggest that the word "Coupon"
in this instance, is referring to a Facetime security coupon and / or
"Token", depending upon the state of the argument being passed through to
the function.

Again, just a guess.

Ha, an interesting take. I've been a programmer for a long, long, very long
time, but I've never heard of any programming object called a coupon. I
thinhk that's quite funny! I've heard of lexical tokens, syntax trees,
parsing algorithms, fuzzy logic, datapoint fragmentation, forking,
relational pyramids, reciphering, lots of other interesting linguistic
oddments, but coupons? Sure would like to find out what that's really all
about.

The word "coupon" has no practical user meaning for anyone using the OS.
This announcement is happening because somewhere in the programming
language, a display handler is mistakenly being announced by VoiceOver.

Now that I think about it, I encountered this announcement very early
on but immediately dismissed it because I could tell that it was
randomly announced during various screen display transitions.

It is just a VoiceOver programming glitch in so far as the developers
inadvertently failed to suppress VoiceOver from announcing this
particular behind-the-scenes function.

So, not to worry, this has happened in the past and will, from
time-to-time happen in the future.

Again, this is just my opinion, nothing more.

I think you should report this to Apple Accessibility because I have had this
happen as well quite a lot and I believe it's simply a bug.
All you can do when it happens is take the items out of the folder and try

I mostly understand how to move apps around the home screen, to and from the
App library, but I do not always get the results I want.

I have a row on my home screen that is empty except for one app. I want to
place an app to the right of that one lone app on that row. I can’t do it
consistently.

I sometimes create folders without wanting to do so. VoiceOver announces “Drop
App X before (or after) app y, and that’s what I want to do, but when I
double-tap, I’ve created a folder. Then I have to drag an app out of the folder
to get rid of it.

Can anybody shed any light on what I might be missing in all this?
