I use a very good and wonderful device called the Hable One. It allows me to
control all functions of the iPhone without taking it out of my pocket. You

Subject: When It Comes to iPhone, Are You All Thumbs?

Hello All,

A friend of mine and I got into a discussion about how we type in iOS, when
sending text messages.

It started when she asked me if I use my thumbs to type. Even though I know
that a great many people use their thumbs to enter text on iPhone, personally I
find the technique slow and awkward.

How do I enter text in iOS?

First, I keep my VoiceOver typing mode set to "Touch Typing."

Second, I use a folio case. Not only does such a case cover the display when
not in use, it also provides a nifty way to balance the phone in one hand,
fingers-free.

When entering text, I open the case, kind of like a book, with the wallet side
to the left and the phone to the right. I position the phone case in the crook
of my left hand (where the base of my thumb meets my hand) so that the back of
the phone, in the case of course, is resting against the palm of my left hand,
leaving all five digits on my left hand, free.

The wallet side of the case acts as a kind of counter balance so that the phone
does not slip out of my hand, even when the phone is tilted, off-axis, so to
speak.

I use my left thumb to access the letters and numbers, located on the left side
of the onscreen keyboard and the index finger of my right hand, to access the
letters and numbers located on the right side of the onscreen keyboard.

I hold the phone in the exact same way when using Slide-to-Type; except in that
instance, I use my right index finger, only.

Okay, that's my method for entering text on iPhone.

How about you? What technique do you use to enter text in iOS?

When it come to iPhone, are you all thumbs? (smile).

Mark

Third-party Twitter apps like Tweetbot and Twitterrific have been intentionally blocked from using Twitter APIs, Twitter confirmed today. Without access to the underlying code for the social network, Tweetbot, Twitterrific, Birdie, Echofon, and other popular Twitter clients are non-functional and cannot be used.

Twitter's Dev account today said in a tweet that Twitter is "enforcing its long-standing API rules," a change that could cause some apps not to work. There has been no word on which API rules the blocked Twitter clients have violated, and this is the first time that Twitter has provided insight into what's going on with third-party Twitter apps since they stopped working last Thursday.
When some third-party Twitter apps became unusable last week, it was initially believed that there could be some kind of bug causing the outage. Only the most popular Twitter clients were affected and blocked from Twitter's APIs, perhaps indicating an internal error. As Twitter declined to comment on the situation for days, however, it became clearer that it was an intentional decision. Over the weekend, The Information said that in an internal Slack channel, a senior software engineer at Twitter clarified that the suspensions were done on purpose, suggesting many Twitter employees were not even aware of what was going on.
It is not known why Twitter has provided so little information on what is happening to highly popular third-party Twitter apps that have existed for years, nor if these apps will again be provided with access to the API if changes are made. Developers like Iconfactory and Tapbots (responsible for Twitterrific and Tweetbot, respectively), received no warning about the shutdown and were not provided with information on why their apps stopped working.
Apps like Tweetbot have been around for more than a decade at this point, with loyal users, full teams of developers, and a major investment in the social network. Developers have expressed their frustration at Twitter's decision and lack of communication, as have longtime Twitter users.
MacStories, for example, called Twitter's actions "disgraceful" and "unprofessional," with Twitter demonstrating a "total lack of respect" for the role that third-party apps have played in the success of the social network.
Jason Snell called Twitter's actions "clueless, classless, and cowardly," and John Gruber said this is likely the end of his regular usage of Twitter as Twitter's own client is "terrible."
At this point, it isn't clear when or if we're going to get more information about third-party Twitter clients from Twitter, nor if the apps that have had their API access revoked will be back in some capacity. Tapbots is now speeding up development on Ivory, its app for the Mastodon social network, and Twitterrific's Craig Hockenberry said that he will be exploring the concept of a truly universal timeline that leverages how open standards can be used in "new and different ways."

Twitter has become crazy. Just get out. Elon Musk is not qualified to own
anything, much less a massive social media app, which he has done nothing but
rec.

Twitter Confirms Third-Party Apps Like Tweetbot Were Intentionally Blocked
MacRumors: Mac News and Rumors / Juli Clover

Third-party Twitter apps like Tweetbot and Twitterrific have been intentionally
blocked from using Twitter APIs, Twitter confirmed today. Without access to the
underlying code for the social network, Tweetbot, Twitterrific, Birdie,
Echofon, and other popular Twitter clients are non-functional and cannot be
used.

Twitter's Dev account today said in a tweet that Twitter is "enforcing its
long-standing API rules," a change that could cause some apps not to work.
There has been no word on which API rules the blocked Twitter clients have
violated, and this is the first time that Twitter has provided insight into
what's going on with third-party Twitter apps since they stopped working last
Thursday.

When some third-party Twitter apps became unusable last week, it was initially
believed that there could be some kind of bug causing the outage. Only the most
popular Twitter clients were affected and blocked from Twitter's APIs, perhaps
indicating an internal error. As Twitter declined to comment on the situation
for days, however, it became clearer that it was an intentional decision. Over
the weekend, The Information said that in an internal Slack channel, a senior
software engineer at Twitter clarified that the suspensions were done on
purpose, suggesting many Twitter employees were not even aware of what was
going on.

It is not known why Twitter has provided so little information on what is
happening to highly popular third-party Twitter apps that have existed for
years, nor if these apps will again be provided with access to the API if
changes are made. Developers like Iconfactory and Tapbots (responsible for
Twitterrific and Tweetbot, respectively), received no warning about the
shutdown and were not provided with information on why their apps stopped
working.

Apps like Tweetbot have been around for more than a decade at this point, with
loyal users, full teams of developers, and a major investment in the social
network. Developers have expressed their frustration at Twitter's decision and
lack of communication, as have longtime Twitter users.

MacStories, for example, called Twitter's actions "disgraceful" and
"unprofessional," with Twitter demonstrating a "total lack of respect" for the
role that third-party apps have played in the success of the social network.

Jason Snell called Twitter's actions "clueless, classless, and cowardly," and
John Gruber said this is likely the end of his regular usage of Twitter as
Twitter's own client is "terrible."

At this point, it isn't clear when or if we're going to get more information
about third-party Twitter clients from Twitter, nor if the apps that have had
their API access revoked will be back in some capacity. Tapbots is now speeding
up development on Ivory, its app for the Mastodon social network, and
Twitterrific's Craig Hockenberry said that he will be exploring the concept of
a truly universal timeline that leverages how open standards can be used in
"new and different ways."

If you are on the PC,
Place your cursor in the date column.
Press ALT + H, then O, then W.
JAWS should report the column width as something like 8.43 Type 20 and press
enter.
That should be wide enough to accommodate the date and time.

Hello,
I often find the read all commmand are interrupted partially through where they
should be reading to. I especially find this occurs when there is a graphic
that is split between two screens. I think it might also occur more often when
I am in the “group” presentation mode for VoiceOver instead of the flat mode.

I also like the Aftershokz Open Com, otherwise you might want to look at
headphone options which have a transparency mode like Apple Airpods.
Alternatively there are always your good old wired Earpods which are a great
headset and they barely blocks out any external sound.

Hi,

I'm not aware of any apps to do what you want but I use Shokz (formerly
Aftershokz) bone induction headphones for the very same thing. They leave your
ears open so you can hear your surroundings as normal while you hear the audio
from your phone through the bone induction headphones. They work very well,
especially when outdoors.

for those who haven't heard of these, they were very handy apps, that would let
you use your iPhone's mic to hear things around you, when using headphones.
they were handy for things like listening to an audiobook, or playing your
iPhone games whilst on a train journey, and you would still be able to hear
things like the station announcements, or when the trolley comes round so that
you could grab a beer for example.
like so many good apps, they are both now defunked, so am wondering if there
are any replacement apps, as I have a few long train journeys on the cards for
this year.

Hello All,

Okay, I received the second headband Bluetooth headset, earlier today, and I
absolutely love them. The fit is amazing, the micro-fiber material from
which they are made is stretchable and the quality of the hardware is far
superior than the first set I tried.

Unlike the first set, which I returned, this new set is USBC compatible.

I agree with one of the 44000 reviewers who stated that this brand must be
the original company from which all of the knock-offs, sprang.

Here is the Amazon description along with the Amazon, US link:

Perytong Sleep Headphones Wireless, Bluetooth Sports Headband Headphones
with Ultra-Thin HD Stereo Speakers Perfect for Sleeping, Workout, Jogging,
Yoga, Insomnia, Air Travel, Meditation.

Hi Sieghard,

Yes, it was some kind of micro-fiber but it had almost no give / stretch at
all.It felt more like a tourniquet than a headband, (smile).

I just looked it up and the brand was CenGoes. As I said, the cost was $12
USD.

When you say "band" what material is that? The ones we have are some sort of
microfiber or other fabric.

Hello Sieghard and Everyone,

Sieghard, I ordered the Bluetooth set of the wireless sleep headband you
mentioned and for which you provided a link.

I could not use the link you provided to order the set but copied the brand
name and found what I believe to be a similar set from a company. The pair
I purchased costs $16, American, $12 after a $4 discount. The pair I
ordered had about 300 Amazon reviews. One of the features that people like
is the fact that they fit snuggly around the head.

While I liked the sound of the earphones, the band was just too tight for
comfort. (I guess I have a big head, eh?) (smile).

So, I returned them and ordered a mainstream brand, one that is marked as
Amazon Choice with over 44000 reviews at 4.3 out of 5 stars. They should be
here on Tuesday. The design is a little bit different but the concept is
the same.

Once I find a pair that I like, I will post a link to the group, in this
thread.

Mark

Hi Sieghard,

Great Thank you for posting the link to these.

I was afraid of purchasing the wrong model.

No highs and no lows, must be Bose

Anyways, I tried to look up the Bose Sleep Pods you mentioned and all I
could find was references and reviews for a product called Bose Sleepbuds
which is some sort of noise cancelling, white noise-making gadget which most
reviews say is way overpriced.

Here is a link on Amazon Canada for a set of the wireless sleep headband I
mentioned before and they don't break the bank:

Wouldn't it be simpler to just have the phone playing audio beside you!?
