Setting constant speed in Voice Dream Reader

2023-02-28 Thread Wayne Merritt
All,
So now that I've imported my zip files into folders in Voice Dream Reader, I'm
wondering if there is a way to set the audio speed for all of the files in that
folder? Currently I have to set the speed faster for each zip file that I play.
While this is doable, it can be redundant. All thoughts welcome.

Warmly,
Wayne Merritt

It is still present on iOS 16.4 Beta 2. Definitely not directly related to iOS.

I received a reply from Apple Accessibility this morning which states that they
are aware of the issue and they are investigating.
I assume this may have had something to do with the App Store and certain App
Store changes have always been done on the backend and they are not necessarily
connected to iOS itself which would explain why this is happening with iOS 15,
iOS 16.3 as well as iOS 16.4 public beta.
I would think this is something which Apple will fix sooner rather than later.
As for using screen recognition this still does not work for me even if I wait
10 seconds or 20 seconds, I have backed out of subscriptions after turning it
on and gone back and it does not give me anything except what I also see
without screen recognition.

Although it wouldn’t be ideal by any means, when I checked just now, I could
turn on screen recognition while in the list of apps to which I was subscribed,
and I could then actually view that list of applications. I could also double
tap on one of the apps to which I was subscribed, then turn off screen
recognition, And then I could see the option to cancel that subscription if I
wanted to do so.

Re: Importing a folder of MP3 files into Voice Dream Reader

2023-02-28 Thread Joshua Hendrickson
You don't create zip files in voice dream. I just make the zip files
on my PC, then upload them into certain folders I've created for them
in dropbox, then once uploaded to dropbox, I then add them to certain
folders I've created in voice dream reader. I've got an audio books
folder and an audio dramas folder in voice dream reader, and that is
where I put any new audio books, or audio dramas I want to next listen
to. I'm currently reading a bunch of graphic audio westerns. It is
working quite well. It is so nice being able to have content download
into certain folders in voice dream reader. It is great for
organization. I've also got folders where I put bookshare books after
zipping them up to read in voice dream reader. All this uploading to
dropbox and creating zip files and folders isn't quick by any means,
but it does work, if one is patient.

Re: How do I say to Lazarillo where I want to go?

2023-02-28 Thread Lisa Belville

Hi.

There are two ways to add an address to your favorites list with Lazarillo.

First, When you search for an address, there may be one or more options
corresponding to that particular address or place.  Swipe through the
listed options and double tap on the correct one.

This will open a new screen.  The first button VO lands on is the add to
favorites button.  Double tap this button and the address will be added
to your favorites.  The address will now be shown when you select the
favorites tab.

The second way to add an address is to double tap the Favorites tab,
then swipe to the Add favorite button and double tap it.

Now you have the choice to either add the exact address or use the GPS
coordinates for the address.    You can add the exact address by double
tapping the Add Favorite by Address button. This will place you in a
search field where you can type the address or enter a place name.  This
is identical to using the search button, but the address is
automatically added to your favorites.

I hope this helps a bit.

Hi, Rena.

You will need to clear the search field by swiping to and double
tapping the clear text button.  Once you do that, you can conduct
another search as before.

As far as I know, there is no history of previously searched for
addresses when using the search field.  However, you can add those
addresses to your favorites so you can view them again.

You have the option to add every address you view as a favorite.
This way you can review the places you've looked at.

Hope this helps.

RE: Mute Switch Always Says "Unmuted"

2023-02-28 Thread Katrina Anderson
Hi All,

So weird. I was preparing to write this message, because I heard "unmuted"
when sliding the switch back or forward on my 14 Pro with the latest iOS 16
version. VO is Samantha...not enhanced. I then saw Sieghard's suggestion to
clear apps and reboot, so I did that; no change. I started typing this
message, and for whatever reason chose to check the switch again. VO spoke
"muted" "unmuted" appropriately. Things seemed good, but before sending this
message, I checked again, and VO says "unmuted" no matter the position. LOL

It isn't a huge problem for me, but it should be checked out, and hopefully
fixed, so I will notify Apple Accessibility.

Katrina

when I move the mute switch to either position.

I found this most interesting. I think it started in iOS 16, but maybe
not. If I move the switch on the side of the phone, either way VoiceOver
says "unmuted." It does this on n XS, a 12 Pro Max and a 14 Pro Max.
However, even though VO says "unmuted" for both positions, the phone
sounds are definitely muted when the switched is moved to the back of
the phone, and restored when moved to the front. Anyone else ever notice
this?

I don't either. If I flip my mute switch one way, I hear muted, if I
flip it back, I hear unmuted. I've got a 13 pro max updated to the

Steve,
That is most interesting and you should probably investigate why this is
happening just for you. It seems unlikely that all three of the devices you
mentioned have hardware issues so it must be something with their settings. As
others have reported, VoiceOver speaks muted and unmuted correctly on my iPhone
13 Mini when the switch is activated or deactivated.

Steve, it is not just you. I had the same thing happened last week. It turned
out and I don’t know if it’s related, but voiceover eventually stop working all
together and that create another problems for me. But I can confirm your
comment about moving that switch in hearing I muted all of the time. I have no
idea why that stopped happening. I want up having to reset my settings and that
message for now at least has gone away.

I would like to have some addresses in the favorites, but I don’t understand
how to do that.

Should I type the address in search and later to send it to favorites? Please,
explain how.

Hi, Rena.

You will need to clear the search field by swiping to and double tapping the
clear text button. Once you do that, you can conduct another search as before.

As far as I know, there is no history of previously searched for addresses when
using the search field. However, you can add those addresses to your favorites
so you can view them again.

You have the option to add every address you view as a favorite. This way you
can review the places you've looked at.

Hope this helps.

I tapped on search again to add another address, but it showed me Publix.

How can I put another address?

Just to clarify, you can type or dictate the address once that search field is

I found this most interesting. I think it started in iOS 16, but maybe
not. If I move the switch on the side of the phone, either way VoiceOver
says "unmuted." It does this on n XS, a 12 Pro Max and a 14 Pro Max.
However, even though VO says "unmuted" for both positions, the phone
sounds are definitely muted when the switched is moved to the back of
the phone, and restored when moved to the front. Anyone else ever notice
this?

I'm not experiencing this with my iPhone 11 or iPhone Se 2020. Both phones are
running the most up to date IOS version.

I don't either. If I flip my mute switch one way, I hear muted, if I
flip it back, I hear unmuted. I've got a 13 pro max updated to the
latest version.

Steve,
That is most interesting and you should probably investigate why this is
happening just for you. It seems unlikely that all three of the devices you
mentioned have hardware issues so it must be something with their settings. As
others have reported, VoiceOver speaks muted and unmuted correctly on my iPhone
13 Mini when the switch is activated or deactivated.

It sounds like a call to Apple Accessibility is needed: 877-204-3930 24/7
My 13 pro says muted and unmuted like always. I do not find any settings
related to the mute switch, but Apple Accessibility would be able to figure
this one out.

RE: PLEASE DO DO REPORT to Apple - nolonger possible to manage subscriptions under the hood updates of Apple become more and more a drama for VIPS

2023-02-28 Thread Sieghard Weitzel

2023-02-28 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
I have an iPhone 13 Pro and the mute switch correctly says "Muted" if moved to
the back and "unmuted" if moved to the front.
Maybe close all apps and reboot your phone to see if that resolves it.

I've got a 13 pro max updated to the
latest version.

Steve,
That is most interesting and you should probably investigate why this is
happening just for you. It seems unlikely that all three of the devices you
mentioned have hardware issues so it must be something with their settings. As
others have reported, VoiceOver speaks muted and unmuted correctly on my iPhone
13 Mini when the switch is activated or deactivated.

RE: PLEASE DO DO REPORT to Apple - nolonger possible to manage subscriptions under the hood updates of Apple become more and more a drama for VIPS

2023-02-28 Thread davycuppens
Again, this terrible bug was not produced by a manual update of one of us all;
no, this was a under-the-hood update of Apple.

Apple is changing its policies and it is obvious that after some years, you
won't get any updates from apps or ios systems anymore. Updates and changes
will be done automatically whether you want it or not.
Sop lease do not blame any of us or betatesters, blame and report to Apple!

After experienncing the same results as reported, I decided to call Apple
Accessibility, rather than email. He tested it on his iphone and was rewarded
with the same mess. He says that Apple already had had several reports about
it, he added mine to the list, along with his own results. I guess a problem
gets more attention when the acccessibility representative gets the same
results as the complaintants. I was told that they are "looking into it", and
that it will be fixed in "a future update." I am glad I didn't wait until the
last minute to change a subscription. And how could this have gott, past the
beta testers? Are there beta testers?

That must have changed in the last 4-6 weeks because I remember at some point
in January I had a look at this because my wife has a yearly subscription for
an app/service and it was showing up. I can confirm Davy's finding and this by
the way is also now on iOS 16.4 public beta so apparently it makes no
difference whether the iOS version is 15, 16 or 16.4 beta.
I agree with Davy in this case, people should definitely report this. I did
also try this with screen recognition turned on and it makes no difference. I
get 3 headings, Active, Inactive and Options. Under Options Voiceover correctly
reads whether the "Share with Family" option is checked or not.
Under "Active" I find a pop up button which allows you to pick app name, price
or renewal date to sort your subscriptions, but while I can pick any of these
options, after I do I still don't see any apps/services listed.

It is about the appstore and all subscriptions randomly of apps for which you
have probably subscribed.

I would consider reporting, but I have no idea what subscriptions you were

I suspect the TTS voice being used for VoiceOver might be a contributing
factor. If I were experiencing this, that's the first thing I'd try. I'm using
Samantha enhanced as my VoiceOver voice.

You can create a zip file with them all in there and put them into dropbox or

Then it will open it will play those songs in order and yes, you can increase
the speed if you’d like.

Re: Mute Switch Always Says "Unmuted"

2023-02-28 Thread Alan Lemly

RE: automatic updates

2023-02-28 Thread paekstrand
Hi Paula,

In Settings, look for App Store, or iTunes and App Store. I think that has
changed names in different IOS versions. In there, you should find where you
can turn off the automatic app updates.

Hope this helps.

Re: Importing a folder of MP3 files into Voice Dream Reader

2023-02-28 Thread Wayne Merritt
Josh,
After some experimenting and figuring out what to do, I ultimately did
everything within VDR as well. I don't use the app very often, but I was amazed
at the control and added abilities the user is given regarding creating folders
and moving items into those folders. Once I figured out what I was doing, it
was very easy to get my task accomplished.

Kind regards,

Apple Store app FAQ and screen recognition

2023-02-28 Thread Vicky Collins
Another place, at least for me, where I find I need to use screen recognition
is with the Apple Store app when I try to read their FAQ. I am in the United
States and running iOS 16.3.1 on both an iPhone 12 mini and an iPhone 13 mini,
although this problem has actually been occurring for quite some time. If I,
say, select an iPhone and go down after all of the color and size selections
and get to the bottom where the frequently asked questions are, I can find the
expand and collapse buttons and double tap on them and read or collapse the
answers, but I can’t read the questions they are actually answering unless I
turn on screen recognition first. Of course, given the answers that are shown,
I can pretty much tell what’s being answered without turning on screen
recognition to confirm the questions.

You can create a zip file with them all in there and put them into dropbox or
Google Drive. Then you can import that one zip file into voice dream reader.
Then it will open it will play those songs in order and yes, you can increase
the speed if you’d like.

Re: PLEASE DO DO REPORT to Apple - nolonger possible to manage subscriptions under the hood updates of Apple become more and more a drama for VIPS

2023-02-28 Thread Vicky Collins
Actually, the screen recognition didn’t work for me the first time I tried it
either. However, since I have a credit union app that requires the same thing,
in most cases, if I wait maybe 10 seconds or so after I invoke the screen
recognition before trying to do anything with the app, it will work and read
things for me. However, I absolutely do agree that this should be fixed,
especially for such an important function with Apple.

Re: Importing a folder of MP3 files into Voice Dream Reader

2023-02-28 Thread Steve Matzura
The action to get a ZIP archive of MP3 files into VDR is neither import
nor export; it's share. You must share the ZIP archive file with VDR,
and as of iOS 16, VDR is not on the default share sheet screen until you
press the More button toward the bottom. You can do this from the native
Files application, but I bought File Browser just because I like the
interface better, but they both do effectively the same thing.

Mute Switch Always Says "Unmuted"

2023-02-28 Thread Steve Matzura
I found this most interesting. I think it started in iOS 16, but maybe
not. If I move the switch on the side of the phone, either way VoiceOver
says "unmuted." It does this on n XS, a 12 Pro Max and a 14 Pro Max.
However, even though VO says "unmuted" for both positions, the phone
sounds are definitely muted when the switched is moved to the back of
the phone, and restored when moved to the front. Anyone else ever notice
this?

Hello,
I was just getting ready to suggest checking on your subscriptions from the
settings area rather than the app store. However, it is broken as well. You
can't read them from there either.
