If you can't type braille, that is a good reason why the Hable
wouldn't be for you. The cost of the Hable is $350. It is expensive,
but very worth it. You can do so much more with it, then just type
text messages. I don't even have to be touching my phone, and I can
use the hable to control all aspects of my phone.

RE: siri sucks.

2023-08-28 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
A keyboard maybe fine if you are at home a lot, but I use my phone a lot when I
am out and about, I may need to send or reply to a text while I am walking with
my dog and in those situations a keyboard just is not a solution. I also feel
that a powerful and small device such as an iPhone should not require me to lug
along all sorts of other expensive gear to use it efficiently. Anyways,
dictation for the most part works well enough especially if you are a bit
practiced in it and by that I mean exactly what Richard said, makek sure you
know what you want to say before you just start and then you end up with
strange sentence structure, little or no punctuation and so on.Being blind is
no excuse for not using proper capitalization, punctuation, grammar and
spelling.

Hi Anna and Malcolm,

I had the same question. I want to use my apple watch to track my
sleep but I don't want the watch talking throughout the night if I
move.

With these settings turned off, do I have to tap the watch to get it to talk?

Siri dictation has always been doing this although it does seem to be somewhat
more accurate in iOS 17.

One thing Siri never seems to get right is the difference between "Flour" and
"flower", I can dicate "Pleas also bring me 2 Kg of spelt flour" and it will
always put "Please bring me 2 Kg of spelt flower".

English of course is also a ridiculously difficult language when it comes to
stuff like that, I find dictation in German is almost always 100% accurate
because there aren't so many words which sound the same but are totally
different. As for the above example, "flower" in German is "Blume" and "flour"
is "Mehl", no chance to get that wrong.

One option is to not use dictation at all, and if you know braille, to
get a hable one bluetooth keyboard. Another bluetooth qwerty keyboard

I have found that most of the time, Siri dictation is really pretty accurate, more on the phone than on the watch. I’m using an older phone, a 10 r. RE: siri sucks.

2023-08-28 Thread Sieghard Weitzel

Can’t get premium and enhanced voices to download on my new SE 2022.

2023-08-28 Thread Kerry Macdonald
Hello all, I just purchased a new SE 2022 to weeks ago. No matter what I try I
cannot get the Karen premium or enhanced or the Nathan enhanced voices to
download to this phone. I have done a hard reset on the phone, reset my
network, make sure there is plenty of space on the phone and an iCloud, and
another couple of things as well. Any thoughts or suggestions? I have not heard
of anyone else having this problem. I am working with Apple accessibility, and
we are trying some different things, but nothing has worked. Just wondering if
anyone had any thoughts.

When i use dictation, sometimes the wrong word is entered, but certainly not the majority of the time. I try to 1: be in a quiet environment, 2: speak a little more slowly than I would ordinarily speak, 3: speak clearly, 4: Go over several times what I want to say in my head before dictating.HTH, Richard, USA ——"While striving for perfection, let us do what is possible." — John Wesley(Sent from my iPhone)On Aug 28, 2023, at 11:27 AM, Jenny Bomareto wrote:Hello all,Whenever I'm dictating a text-message, e-mail, or whenever you use siri for dictation.  it puts whatever words it thinks should be in their.  I also don't have autocorrect turned on  either.  This is getting very irritating.TIA in advance for your help. Thanks for reading regarding this matter.Jenny BomaretoSent from my iPhone

RE: navigating my Iphone with my braille display

2023-08-28 Thread Christopher Chaltain
Yes, you'll need to use VoiceOver's braille commands.

Richard Turner has a nice list on his web site in a few different formats.
https://www.turner42.com/

You can also find a list of braille keyboard commands for your braille display
by going into Settings -> Accessibility -> VoiceOver -> Commands and then
selecting your braille display in the Braille Devices section.

Subject: Re: navigating my Iphone with my braille display

Hi Group,

I just purchased a focus 40 braille display. I am very new at it. I have read
the manual but am a bit confused. Some of the keystrokes they mentioned don't
work with the display when it is connected to the iPhone. Are there a separate
set of keystrokes for the display when using it with the iPhone?

In any case, I got into a situation where the configuration menu should launch
with the press of the menu key, but it does not. I tried the various
lock/unlock keystrokes and they don't seem to unlock anything.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
