Re: Questions regarding my Apple watch

2023-09-01 Thread Anna Dresner
Hi,

If I’m sleeping with my watch on, I turn the volume way down. That way, if I
accidentally trigger voiceOver, it doesn’t make noise.

Best,
Anna

Turn off Speak on Wrist Raise either in VoiceOver Settings on the

Re: Saving stuff from someone else's phone

I believe there is a Take Control Book called Take Control of your Digital
Legacy that should address these things.
It is probably available on BookShare.

https://www.takecontrolbooks.com/digital-legacy/

content list 13 items • What strategies can I use for sorting and preserving
email and instant messages? group with 2 items • How can I ensure that my email
account(s) will be available to those wrapping up my estate? group with 2 items
• What if I have digital data that should be destroyed when I die? group with 2
items • What should I do with my huge photo collection (both digital and
paper)? group with 2 items • How should I pass on control of my Apple, Google,
and Microsoft accounts? group with 2 items • How can I make my passwords and
passkeys available to those who will need them—but keep them private for now?
group with 2 items • What should I think about when handing down purchased
audio and video files? group with 2 items • What should happen to my Facebook
account when I’m no longer around? group with 2 items • What choices are
available for keeping my digital archive available and backed up? group with 2
items • How long should I expect archival media to last? group with 2 items •
Should I write an autobituary? group with 2 items • Are online digital legacy
services any good? group with 2 items • How will organizing all this stuff
benefit me while I’m alive? group with 2 items content list

Obviously these are things easier to do if planned for then after a death but
it is a book from an author that I trust.

Re: Need help from Apple? Don’t go to social media, Macworld - Thursday, August 31, 2023 at 9:11 AM

2023-09-01 Thread 'Angie Nutt' via VIPhone
I see it more like Apple finds it’s spending too much time on social media etc;
wants to use it’s resources differently. Personally, I like having the presence
of companies I buy from on my social media so think this is a shame but we’ll
see what happens.

All the best
Angie

RE: New Laptop

2023-09-01 Thread oluogbe
I had the same machine with the same issue you mentioned. Despite multiple
repairs by HP over 1year, they were unable to resolve the issue, passing the
blame on to my OS. So I got a Lenovo L3 & the experience has put me off HP.

Regards,
LU

Yes, I did that and also had my computer guy update all the drivers, nothing
seemed to fix it.
Also have a friend with the same machine and the same problems.

I use an external keyboard all the time but still like a larger foot print,
i.e. 15 inch.
The HP Envy had some sort of sound card issue where the volume continuously
fluctuates, really annoying.

I was very happy with my Asus Zenbook which I bought in 2016, only thing I
didn't like was the keyboard as the layout was not very easy to use with
virtually no spaces anywhere and the Insert/Jaws key not even being double
size as on a regular keyboard. I guess it also depends if you want a small 13
or 14 inch laptop without numeric pad and use the Jaws laptop layout or if you
want a 15-inch with a number pad.
I bought a Lenovo Thinkpad T16 last December and it has a fairly nice keyboard
although I still prefer to use an external full size keyboard, but it's a
pretty nice laptop. Battery is not as good as I thought, however.

Good day to all and a beautiful late Summer day it is here in Toronto.
I've started research on buying a new laptop. I'm using Jaws or NVDA as a
totally blind user.
I'm currently using an HP Envy 11 inch machine that I have not been happy with
from the start, three years ago.
My usage is mostly Internet, Microsoft suite of products including e-mail.
Wondering if anyone has recent experience that you might want to share, be it
good or bad!

Best Regards
