Subject: RE: How do I prevent my emails from being deleted on multiple devices

If you use more than one device what you should want is for both devices to
show exactly the same thing. For example, if you are out and about and get an
email and reply to it on your iPhone, I at least would want to see on my
computer that the email was replied to and that the reply is there in the sent
folder or wherever I move it to.

Similarly, if I delete an email I delete it because I either don’t want it
because it’s spam or I am done with it. In that case why would I not want said
email to be deleted on all my devices?

As others pointed out, IMAP and Microsoft Exchange are protocols where your
mail, contacts and so on are stored on the server of your provider and a local
copy of the data is synced to your devices. The sync works both ways, you read
an email on one device and it shows as read on the other, you reply to an email
and it shows as replied to on the other, you sent an email on one device and
the message is in your sent items folder on the other device or devices. You
add a contact on your iPhone while you are out and about and that contact is
also there on your computer and vice versa.

It may take a little getting used to, but this is the way email should work
when multiple devices are involved, POP3 is an old protocol which was never
designed for a situation where 2 or more devices are involved, yes, you can
specify to “leave mail on server” on one device, but then this does not do
anything for other stuff, e.g. if you were to send a message to somebody on
your iPhone with an account set up as POP3, then that message you sent lives on
your iPhone only and you would never know it was sent if you looked at the sent
messages on your computer. I know a few people on this list love to live in the
past and they think POP3 is the reinvention of the wheel but it’s definitely
not.

The other advantage of IMAP or Exchange of course is the fact that everything
is backed up already and if you get a new device whether computer or iPhone,
you don’t even have to think about backing up your Outlook data file and then
restoring it and all that. All you do is you enter your credentials on the new
device when you set up the account and everything magically appears.

Subject: How do I prevent my emails from being deleted on multiple devices

I use Microsoft-365, windows-10 on my desktop as my primary email program. I
only use my iPhone on occasion, mostly when I go out of my house. I recently
had to switch my Outlook-365 Verizon account from POP to IMAP. This means that,
unfortunately, my emails are no longer deleted from the server after I download
them on my desktop, so they come into my phone, too. It also seems to mean
that when I delete an email on my phone or desktop, it’s also somehow deleted
from the other device. I emphatically do not want that. How do I prevent this
from happening?

Thanks John Riehl

RE: Haptic time on Apple Watch Ultra 2

2023-12-16 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
If I do a triple tap during the day all I get is minutes and I can reproduce
this over and over.
Just now, it’s 11:45 PM so well past the start of my 10:30 PM sleep focus, a
double tap once again does nothing and the triple tap consistently gives me
hours and minutes in haptic time.

Interesting. I’m not sure anyone other than myself has said they use three and
four taps for haptic time. This works for me even when I don’t have sleep mode
on. Maybe there’s another setting I have set somewhere that explains this. I do
have sleep when wrist down is set to on, so maybe that explains it. My watch

Subject: Haptic time on Apple Watch Ultra 2

Hi,

According to Apple, Voiceover users can use the haptic time feature by tapping
the screen of the apple Watch twice with one finger to get the time in hours
and minutes and tap three times if you know the hour and only want minutes
indicated.
The prerequesit is that the Apple Watch screen is off/asleep.

In a recent discussion it seems many people say for them this works only
reliably if you tap the screen 3 times for hours and minutes and 4 times for
minutes.

I found with my Apple Watch series 5 40mm that haptic time rarely worked.
I now have an Apple Watch Ultra 2 and I discovered the following which probably
applies also to my series 5, but I haven’t checked it yet although I still have
the series 5 because I’m a bit of a prograstinater when it comes to selling
stuff.
Here is what I discovered:

I have a daily “sleep” focus set which starts at 10:30 PM and it stops at 7 AM.
I found that if it is past 10:30 PM, e.g. the sleep focus is active, a 1-finger
double tap does nothing except it wakes up the display, but a 3-finger tap
starts hours and minutes in haptic time and a quadruple tap does just the
minutes.
However, during the day, e.g. after 7 AM and before 10:30 PM when the sleep
focus is not active, the double tap Apple says one should use works just fine
and the triple tap gives me just minutes even though when the sleep focus is
active it will give me hours and minutes.

I just wrote Apple Accessibility a message regarding this because I assume this
is a bug, but not sure until they reply.

What I don’t understand is that why we can’t use the regular gesture for haptic
time. Yes, haptic time is not actually an accessibility feature, it is
available to all Apple Watch users in Settings > Clock as long as you said
“Speak Time” to “Control with silent mode” instead of “Always”.
According to the article, if you don’t use Voiceover you simply rest 2 fingers
on the screen for a moment to get haptic time.

Yes, that is how I have it set up, sleep focus starts at 10:30 PM and that is
the case on both my iPhone and Apple Watch. If I get up at 6:30 AM or any time

On my iPhone, in settings -> focus, I have it set so that when my focus changes
on my iPhone, it’ll change on my watch. On the watch, in settings -> general ->
focus, you can set it to mirror the focus on your iPhone. I don’t have my watch
with me right now, but I’d check to see if there’s a way to toggle focus in the
control panel.

BTW, I used the health app to set up my sleep schedule, so my iPhone goes into
sleep mode on a regular week day and weekend schedule. You can also add and
configure different focuses in settings -> focus, on your iPhone.

For some time now I have been using Siri voice3 British dialect with my iPhone

For some reason it keeps losing the voice and reverting to Daniel. This has
been happening when the device is on its wireless charger over night.

If I want to restore the voice it is necessary to redownload it in the morning.

Sadly this issue persists in the latest beta.

It used to occurs on my Apple Watch too but this is no longer the case.

I wonder how many people will remember the song, Does Your Chewing Gum Lose

Any thoughts welcome.

RE: How do I prevent my emails from being deleted on multiple devices

2023-12-16 Thread Sieghard Weitzel

2023-12-16 Thread Ron Canazzi

Hi Group,

I had closed the StarplayrX down overnight 12/15/2023 and then tried
opening it for the football games around 12:30 PM 12/16/2023 EST.  I got
the log in error once. I was presented with a log in screen. I typed in
my password again and the app has been working since then with the app
closed and reopened a few times. I wonder if this is going to be a
chronic issue and if the developer knows about it. He actually has a
website devoted to this and other apps he has created. His name is Todd

I do not see an e-mail link on the page.

RE: sleep modeRE: Haptic time on Apple Watch Ultra 2

2023-12-16 Thread Christopher Chaltain
On my iPhone, in settings -> focus, I have it set so that when my focus changes
on my iPhone, it'll change on my watch. On the watch, in settings -> general ->
focus, you can set it to mirror the focus on your iPhone. I don't have my watch
with me right now, but I'd check to see if there's a way to toggle focus in the
control panel.

BTW, I used the health app to set up my sleep schedule, so my iPhone goes into
sleep mode on a regular week day and weekend schedule. You can also add and
configure different focuses in settings -> focus, on your iPhone.

Interesting. I'm not sure anyone other than myself has said they use three and
four taps for haptic time. This works for me even when I don't have sleep mode
on. Maybe there's another setting I have set somewhere that explains this. I do
have sleep when wrist down is set to on, so maybe that explains it. My watch
has also worked this way through multiple

Apple. I have something that works pretty reliably for me.

I now have an Apple Watch Ultra 2 and I discovered the following which probably
applies also to my series 5, but I haven't checked it yet although I still have
the series 5 because I'm a bit of a prograstinater when it comes to selling
stuff.
Here is what I discovered:

I have a daily "sleep" focus set which starts at 10:30 PM and it stops at 7 AM.

What I don't understand is that why we can't use the regular gesture for haptic
time. Yes, haptic time is not actually an accessibility feature, it is
available to all Apple Watch users in Settings > Clock as long as you said
"Speak Time" to "Control with silent mode" instead of "Always".
According to the article, if you don't use Voiceover you simply rest 2 fingers
on the screen for a moment to get haptic time.

the series 5 because I'm a bit of a prograstinater when it comes to selling
stuff.
Here is what I discovered:

I have a daily "sleep" focus set which starts at 10:30 PM and it stops at 7 AM.

Loss of Siri voices when iPhone is on charge.

2023-12-16 Thread Malcolm Parfitt
For some time now I have been using Siri voice3 British dialect with my iPhone
15 Pro Max.

It's Flavour (On the Bedpost Overnight? Lonnie Donegan. Well perhaps we could
now sing: Does your iPhone lose its voices on the charger overnight?

Any thoughts welcome.

Thanks for all the info and no offense taken. I use the phone for all of my
internet type needs, including surfing the web, email, and watching TV. And
although this may change with the new phones, the two iPhone mini phones I
have right now, neither of them can make it through a full day without having
to be charged. And too, should something happen with one of the phones, I would
still have a way to contact someone with the other one. I wanted to stay with
AT and get internet service with them, but they only offered in my area a
router or something that used cellular data with a limit of 50 GB, anyway, so I
just opted for the second line instead. My billing period starts on the 27th of
each month, and I just checked the cellular data usage on each phone, as I
reset every month right at the beginning of the billing period, and one phone
has used 24.1 GB while the other has used 24.7 GB so far.

Yeah that’s just how the IMAP protocol works; I don’t think there’s anything
you can do about it.

Yeah that’s just how the IMAP protocol works; I don’t think there’s anything
you can do about it.

RE: How do I prevent my emails from being deleted on multiple devices

2023-12-16 Thread Richard Turner
I do not know that you can prevent that when using Exchange or iMap.

I think I would call either, or both, Microsoft or Apple to see if they have
knowledge of a setting to do what you want.

2023-12-16 Thread Dan

On my Apple Watch SE I have never been
able to use taptic time using 1 finger double taps.  I have
always had to use the 3 and 4 taps.

I have also turned VO off and tried the 2
finger tap and hold and I have never gotten that to work
either.  Poor sighted folks. :)

Interesting. I’m not sure anyone
other than myself has said they use three and four taps for
haptic time. This works for me even when I don’t have sleep

that explains this. I do have sleep when wrist down is set
to on, so maybe that explains it. My watch has also worked
this way through multiple

watchOS updates. I’ll be interested
to hear about the response you get from Apple. I have
something that works pretty reliably for me.

Subject: Haptic time on Apple Watch Ultra 2

Hi,

According to Apple, Voiceover users can use
the haptic time feature by tapping the screen of the apple
Watch twice with one finger to get the time in hours and
minutes and tap three times if you know the hour and only want
  minutes indicated.
The prerequesit is that the Apple Watch
  screen is off/asleep.

In a recent discussion it seems many people
say for them this works only reliably if you tap the screen 3
times for hours and minutes and 4 times for minutes.

I found with my Apple Watch series 5 40mm
  that haptic time rarely worked.
I now have an Apple Watch Ultra 2 and I
discovered the following which probably applies also to my
series 5, but I haven’t checked it yet although I still have
the series 5 because I’m a bit of a prograstinater when it
  comes to selling stuff.
Here is what I discovered:

I have a daily “sleep” focus set which
starts at 10:30 PM and it stops at 7 AM.
I found that if it is past 10:30 PM, e.g.
the sleep focus is active, a 1-finger double tap does nothing
except it wakes up the display, but a 3-finger tap starts
hours and minutes in haptic time and a quadruple tap does just
  the minutes.
However, during the day, e.g. after 7 AM
and before 10:30 PM when the sleep focus is not active, the
double tap Apple says one should use works just fine and the
triple tap gives me just minutes even though when the sleep
focus is active it will give me hours and minutes.

I just wrote Apple Accessibility a message
regarding this because I assume this is a bug, but not sure
  until they reply.

What I don’t understand is that why we
can’t use the regular gesture for haptic time. Yes, haptic
time is not actually an accessibility feature, it is available
to all Apple Watch users in Settings > Clock as long as you
said “Speak Time” to “Control with silent mode” instead of
  “Always”.
According to the article, if you don’t use
Voiceover you simply rest 2 fingers on the screen for a moment
  to get haptic time.

Tell time with haptic feedback on
Apple Watch - Apple Support

Best regards,
Sieghard
