The basic
Netatmo Weater Station includes the main indoor module which
connects to your WiFi and has to be plugged into power and 1
outdoor module which runs on 2 Triple A batteries and which
is already pre-paired wit the indoor module. You first set
up the indoor module, then put batteries in the outdoor
module and place it somewhere outside, of course it should
be in the shade and I would put it in a place where it is
not exposed to rain, snow etc. They do now sell an enclosure
which looks a bit like a plastic mug with a handle and it
has a plug on the bottom which unscrews, you place the
station in it and close it. The sides have slots so it can
get accurate temperature and humidity measurements, but it’s
protected from direct sunlight and rain. Of course the
outside module should also be not too far from the base
station, if you go too far it may work some time but loose
connection at times. But 40 or 50 feet is not a problem.

If
you want a rain and/or wind gauge then you can buy
them all at once in a bundle which is cheaper than
buying them all separately. For Black Friday you could
have had the entire bundle for I think 40% off, it was
  quite a good deal.

You
can also add up to 3 additional indoor modules. Keep
in mind tthat the rain gauge should be placed in an
open area with at least 6 or 8 feet (I think Netatmo
says 10 feet) of space around it so no nearby trees,
bushes or just a few feet from the house. It should
also be approx. 1 m off the ground. Both rain gauge
and wind gauge have a quarter inch standard tripod
thread in the bottom and especially the wind gauge is
a difficult installation if you want it to be
accurate. Netatmo says it should be at least 4 feet
above the highest point of your house, I have one but
still haven’t gone through the trouble to put a 4-foot
pole on the ridge of my house. I guess you could put
it in an open area on your lawn on a tall post or
something, but you won’t get accurate readings if that
is maybe 20 or 30 feet away from your house where the
house might block wind or create eddies.

Sieghard

First I found Cisco WEBEx to be annoying on Macintosh computers, but that was not the question.

Most VOIP solutions  (FaceTime, Google Voice, Microsoft Teams, WhatsApp) integrate with the iPhone’s phone app. I can see all my WhatsApp and Teams calls in my phone app recent calls history and I can answer them with a two finger double
tap or a press of my headphones button. So I would expect that WebEx should have this level of integration too.

Just go to Settings > Passwords, tap on the login information you want, e.g.
xfinity, then tap on "Edit" at the top right and at that point you can read the
password. Login/user Id and password are now edit fields so double tapping on
them will let you enter edit mode to also make changes.

Xfinity made me change the password because of their stupid security breach I
guess. I absolutely had to do it or I was not allowed to login into their
website. Once there, I had to change the password and I was using my iPhone. I
let Apple set up a password through keychain. It’s a strong password with 15
random letters. First question: is it actually possible to see the password in
keychain? I follow the directions going to settings and then passwords etc. but
once you get to the one you want, you can’t actually “view the password “which
is what Apple says you can do. All I see are 15 bullets. This means that when I
want to use my PC, I can’t. I thought there would be a way once you’re logged
in and behind all those security things that Apple puts up, you could actually
read the random password letters just in case you have a non-apple product that
you need to login with. It kind of render keychain worthless. Plus now I can’t
send my email on my PC. To say I’m mad is to understate the situation by a lot.

If it is really not possible to physically see the letters that you need to see
in order to use that password on a non-apple product, then what’s the solution?
There is an option to “forget password“ so I could do that. But then I have no
way of getting into the account. Mary

RE: Hard drive or SD card access via an iPhone?

2024-01-16 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Richard is correct, you do not have access to the phone’s folder structure like
you do on a computer or Android phone.
If you buy a card reader it is possible that it comes with its own app which
you have to use to access the files or as Richard suggested, maybe the Files
app can do this now.
This is why you have to use the Dropbox or Onedrive apps to access content you
have with these storage solutions (Files app here works I believe), but it’s
not like on a PC where you simply use File Explorer to open c:\users\Your User
Name\Dropbox or OneDrive to have access to these files and open them, delete
them, copy or move them etc.

I do not think you can transfer the audio files to the phone. But you would use
the Files app to access the drives. It could be you could open the files with
Voice Dream Reader, which would transfer them to that app. But, if you are
thinking to transfer them to the music app, you need a computer to do that.
At least, that is my understanding. You may need to call Apple unless someone
knows better.

RE: Alexa iPhone app broken

2024-01-16 Thread sarai.bucciarelli
Hi:
Amazon basics thermostat use to work fie for scheduling home, away and sleep
times. Now you cannot set a scheduled event nor adjust thermostat, not even
with screen recognition.
Open Alexa.
Choose devices.
Choose your thermostat.
Tap view or edit schedule button.
Then press the touchable action button. Nothing happens.
They've rearranged the app.

Is this a problem from the start of using the Elexa Basic Thermostat, or have
you been using it for awhile and it just stopped? Are you using other devices
in your household with Elexa or is this the only device? If you have been using
the thermostat for sometime, how did it stop working?

Re: Hard drive or SD card access via an iPhone?

2024-01-16 Thread Richard Turner
I do not think you can transfer the audio files to the phone. But you would use the Files app to access the drives. It could be you could open the files with Voice Dream Reader, which would transfer them to that app. But, if you are thinking to transfer them to the music app, you need a computer to do that. At least, that is my understanding. You may need to call Apple unless someone knows better. Richard, USA“Grandma always told us, “Be careful when you pray for patience. Re: Webex calling app on iPhone

2024-01-16 Thread Jonathan Cohn
First I found Cisco WEBEx to be annoying on Macintosh computers, but that was
not the question.
Most VOIP solutions (FaceTime, Google Voice, Microsoft Teams, WhatsApp)
integrate with the iPhone’s phone app. I can see all my WhatsApp and Teams
calls in my phone app recent calls history and I can answer them with a two
finger double tap or a press of my headphones button. So I would expect that
WebEx should have this level of integration too.
Good Luck Jonathan Cohn

*Subject:* What has happened to Voice Dream scanner?

Hi all. I would like to be able to use my voice stream scanner app,
however, when I try to update it in the App Store, it simply updates,
my voice stream reader app. When I try to open my Scanner app on my
phone, it just does not open. Have they removed this app and any and
all support for it? I bought these apps back when Winston was in
charge of all of them, so do not have the subscription version. Are
they now being awful, and requiring us to pay a subscription fee to
use the Scanner app? Thanks in advance.

I do not like the way this new group is running this app. Are there
any ways to purchase any updated versions of voices or any new voices?
It is a much more difficult app to use I think than when Winston was
running it. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. I have some
documents I need to scan so would like to be able to continue to use
the app.

RE: Rain Gauge

2024-01-16 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
The basic Netatmo Weater Station includes the main indoor module which connects
to your WiFi and has to be plugged into power and 1 outdoor module which runs
on 2 Triple A batteries and which is already pre-paired wit the indoor module.
You first set up the indoor module, then put batteries in the outdoor module
and place it somewhere outside, of course it should be in the shade and I would
put it in a place where it is not exposed to rain, snow etc. They do now sell
an enclosure which looks a bit like a plastic mug with a handle and it has a
plug on the bottom which unscrews, you place the station in it and close it.
The sides have slots so it can get accurate temperature and humidity
measurements, but it’s protected from direct sunlight and rain. Of course the
outside module should also be not too far from the base station, if you go too
far it may work some time but loose connection at times. But 40 or 50 feet is
not a problem.

If you want a rain and/or wind gauge then you can buy them all at once in a
bundle which is cheaper than buying them all separately. For Black Friday you
could have had the entire bundle for I think 40% off, it was quite a good deal.

You can also add up to 3 additional indoor modules. Keep in mind tthat the rain
gauge should be placed in an open area with at least 6 or 8 feet (I think
Netatmo says 10 feet) of space around it so no nearby trees, bushes or just a
few feet from the house. It should also be approx. 1 m off the ground. Both
rain gauge and wind gauge have a quarter inch standard tripod thread in the
bottom and especially the wind gauge is a difficult installation if you want it
to be accurate. Netatmo says it should be at least 4 feet above the highest
point of your house, I have one but still haven’t gone through the trouble to
put a 4-foot pole on the ridge of my house. I guess you could put it in an open
area on your lawn on a tall post or something, but you won’t get accurate
readings if that is maybe 20 or 30 feet away from your house where the house
might block wind or create eddies.

Best regards,
Sieghard

Re: Rain Gauge

2024-01-16 Thread Dan

Netatmo makes a base unit and then there
are external devices that can be placed outside.  the external
devices include rain gauge, anemometer(for wind direction and
strength) and temp and humidity.  I have the base with the
temp/humidity unit and have the rain gauge and anemometer coming
in the mail.

They also have extra units that can be
placed in the home for monitoring things like carbon monoxide,
temperature and other things.  I do not have these additional
units.

Re: Spotify and jam sessions

2024-01-16 Thread Star Gazer
On Spotify, when you are playing something, there is a button
that lets you pick where you want the track heard. When you click that button
there is an option that says start a jam. When you click it an option asks you
if you want to share a link. If you click it you get the share options, message
email, whatever so you can share the link.
It allows people to listen to the exact same content at the exact same time. My
daughter and I love doing this for podcasts. We enjoy our air pods, and in a
jam session we don’t even have to be in the same physical space. Think watching
a tv show with someone you love and one of you says “how’d he get in that room”
and the person also knows exactly what you referring to.
Explaining because I understand how the concept doesn’t make much sense, my kid
showed it to me and it took awhile for me to fully grasp the cool and why
anybody would prefer this factors.

Is the setting for Siri to listen turned on?  If you have had an Apple

Re: Alexa iPhone app broken

2024-01-16 Thread David Grossoehme
When you say basic thermostat you need to give more details of the type
of thermostat.  We know it is a smart thermostat, but is it for heat
only, or heat and air conditioning?  What type of service is it being
used on?  Is it a 3 stage heating and cooling system, which has a heat
pump in the heating and cooling system? One thing to try to begin with
is, try turning it off and then back on.  It's possible it needs a
recycling of the service. There will be a 7 minute delay from when you
shut it off until the system of your heating service completely shuts
down.  I'd wait a few minutes after the 7 minute delay and wait up until
15 minutes after you control the unit down before restarting it.

have you been using it for awhile and it just stopped?  Are you using

If you have been using the thermostat for sometime, how did it stop working?

I have not used this, but reading about it in the app store it is made by
Cisco, so one would think it would be accessible and it was updated just a few
days ago.

I would install it and see how much you can read with it on your iPhone.

I suspect you will need someone or some authorization from your work to
actually set it up with your work phone. But I usually download an app and see
what happens.

It is shown as being free.

Good luck,

At work, we use Webex softphones on our laptops. They have rolled out ability
for us to request using a Webex app on our phones so we can make an receive
work calls on our mobile phones as if we were at our laptops. I’m wondering
if anyone has used this app to know how accessible it is with Voiceover.I
can select another option to have calls just forward to my cell phone and not
use the Webex app, but my manager has this and says there is no way to know if
the call is a personal one or work related and there is no caller ID, so she
ends up answering all calls. Using the Webex app would provide better
separation between work and personal and allow me to just log out when I don’t
want to get work calls, but it may be cumbersome to get to calls quickly with
voiceover.

RE: Webex calling app on iPhone

2024-01-16 Thread Richard Turner

2024-01-16 Thread joseph hudson
Hi Robin, so I'm guessing that the option offers another call forwarding option
that is definitely great. Because there are other options that you and your
manager could use, which would allow you to see color ID. I would recommend
opening a Gmail account and setting up a Google voice number. Then you could
tell the calls to. Go to that number instead. And the calls would be routed
through that Google voice number. I wonder if that would work.

Re: How can i add a email adress to my contacts from a i message

2024-01-16 Thread Chris Chaffin

You can follow the directions in the message below, but instead of choosing
create new contact, you would choose add to existing contact. If the iMessage
was sent with an email address, then after choosing the contact, it will
automatically add it to that contacts information.

You can only add an email to a contact if the iMessage was sent using an email
address.

Hi Debbie,

Try the below steps.

1. Go to Settings.
2. Swipe right to select and double tap on “Display and Brightness.”
3. Swipe right to select “Auto Lock.” You should hear something about how
this option is configured (e.g. I hear “Auto Lock Never,” because I prefer that
option. If you want to change the setting, double tap, and swipe through the
options, double tapping to select what you want.
4. Use the Back Scrub gesture, or click on Back, to exit this setting,
etc.

RE: Here Are The Steps to Get Your iOS 17.2 iPhone / iPad to Automatically Announce When the Battery Level Falls Below or Rises Above a Certain Percentage

2024-01-16 Thread Katrina Anderson
So, I managed to remedy the problem/question asked below. I could try to share
what I did, but I’m honestly not exactly sure of the process. What I do know
is that all the digging I did in settings was not the road to travel. The
solution is to open Shortcuts, select the desired shortcut, and that’s where
things are not clear enough to go into accurate detail. I was able to switch
the voice away from Samantha, to my desired voice, but I probably could have
figured out how to keep Samantha and customize her voice so that she doesn’t
speak so darn slow/deep. Whew, what a process, but my shortcuts for low
battery are working as I want/need.

Subject: RE: Here Are The Steps to Get Your iOS 17.2 iPhone / iPad to
Automatically Announce When the Battery Level Falls Below or Rises Above a
Certain Percentage

I am just getting around to following up on this; have really missed not having
the notification of low battery. I have set up a couple of shortcuts,
including one to alert battery is less than 20%, and another to alert at 10%.
The battery is nowhere that low, so I’m interested to see if it works.
However, when clicking on the option to run the shortcut, I heard the
appropriate alert that I had created, so that is promising. However, my issue
is the voice that speaks the message is a slow Samatha, which I use to use,
until I chose to switch to using English Siri 1, 2 & 4. The former is used for
Siri, but I’m thinking it may also be an option for Voiceover. I have
designated English Siri 4 as default, and I’m assuming that directly relates to
Voiceover. In short, am I stuck listening to the very slow Samatha for my
shortcut alerts?

I’ve played around quite a bit under “Accessibility,” “Voiceover;” set speed to
anywhere from 50-60. Under “Spoken,” I hear “Voice Siri 1 United States;” when
clicking on that, and swiping over, I find “Siri Voice 1” is selected,” but of
course I am able to switch to Samantha if desired. However, the only
adjustment to Samantha’s voice is “timbre” and “sentence pause.” Somewhere in
my messing around, I managed to delete or maybe it is more unload/uninstall the
voice, but it is still here in these options, and it shows up in the rotor when
Samantha is selected. I’ve switched back to “Siri Voice 1,,” Samantha is gone
from the rotor and Siri Voice 1 is back.

Under “Accessibility,” “Voiceover,” and “Verbosity,” I select “System
Notifications,” and select “Speak” where possible. There isn’t an option to
alter the voice of System Notifications.

Under “Accessibility,” “Voiceover,” “Audio,” I didn’t find anything that seemed
to apply.

Under “Accessibility,” “Spoken,” “Voices,” the first button after the header
“System Voices,” is “English Siri Voice 1;” double tap on that button changes
nothing; I don’t hear “selected.” Samantha is not present anywhere, and I
don’t see how to do much except select a voice/language that I don’t want.
Going back a screen, to the right of “Voices,” is “Default Language English
Button.” Double tap on that button leads me to a similar screen; it appears I
could select “Locale,” whatever that is or “English,” and the latter is
selected.

Under “Siri and Search,” I find “Language English United States Button.”
Clicking on that didn’t help.

Under “Siri and Search,” I find “”Siri Voice American Voice 1.” Clicking there
wasn’t helpful; could have selected another Siri voice…nothing about Samantha.

And so much more investigation, trial/error in Settings, didn’t bring me
success. Thoughts?

Hello Everyone,

If you would like to have your iPhone automatically announce when the battery
level falls below a certain percentage, with VoiceOver enabled, do the
following:

1.
Launch the Shortcuts app.

2.
Select the Automation tab, located near the bottom of the display.

3.
Select the Add button, located near the top right corner of the display. A
list of choices will appear.

4.
Select Battery Level. A new screen will appear.

5.
Adjust the slider to the desired battery level that will automatically activate
the shortcut. The default level is 50%.

6.
On this same screen, select the “Falls Below” option. Of course, you should
select either of the other two options in this area, as well.

7.
In the third and final area of this screen, select the “Run Immediately”
option. Selecting this option will cause another option to be displayed said
option being to not only announce the battery level but to also place a

Makes no difference if it’s an iPhone 15 or not, if it’s a phone with Lightning port you just have to get the correct adapter or card reader.

If you’re using an iPhone 15 series then the following will allow you to do what you want.

Yes, there are adapters for sd cards and there are adapters with a USB a port that have a place for the charger for the iPhone so your iPhone is on AC power and if the hard Drive has
its own power, you can connect it through the USB port and r,∀ it. It will likely not be a very fast connection, but should work. Given the changes to use the USB c for the iPhone 15, you will want to cdouble
check what is available. Perhaps calling Apple.

Hello all, does anyone know if there is any such thing, as an SD card reader, that will work with the iPhone please?
Also, is there any way to access a Windows formatted external hard drive via the iPhone please?
Asking these questions, as my windows desktop has decided to go toes up on me, and would really like to access a lot of audio, that is stored on SD cards or external hard drives, but unless I can get it fixed, or until I can get the funds together to get it
replaced, I am restricted to the iPhone at the moment.
