I have been using the 17.3 beta since it's been out and it's fine. One thing I 
noticed is that even without increasing the double tap time I don't seem to 
have any more issues like in earlier versions of iOS 17 where often you double 
tapped only to find that all which happened is that you put focus on some other 
thing. Maybe it also has to do with the fact that I did a complete factory 
reset of my iPhone 13 Pro including not restoring my backup but setting up from 
scratch, but I haven't touched the default 0.35 seconds and it seems fine.

One of the new features of iOS 17.3 is “stolen device protection”.
You find it in Settings > Face Id and Passcode.
I actually fell victim to it yesterday as I decided that the iOS 17.3 update 
might be a good time to do a complete reset of my iPhone and to set up as a new 
device completely from scratch. I felt lately my battery performance and a few 
other things weren’t what they should be and it’s been many years isnce I did 
this. One thing I must say is that nowadays for most iPhone users who use their 
phone for things like email, banking, home automation, as a trusted device for 
2-factor authentication and more doing this is a real pain in the you know 
where and it involves hours and hours of time.
Anyhow, after I wiped my phone, went through the setup process and all that I 
upgraded to iOS 17.3 and after the update it asked me if I wanted to turn 
stolen device protection on. I did so since I was actually running the iOS 17.3 
Beta prior to this and already had it on. Then came the surprise. I wanted to 
set my work email which is an Exchange account. When I started I was informed 
that in order to do this I had to temporarily turn off stolen device 
protection. So over to Settings I went, but when I tried to turn it off I was 
informed that I wasn’t in a known location hence a 1 hour delay would be put in 
place before I could turn it off and there was a button to proceed and start 
the 1 hour countdown. This of course was because I had wiped my iPhone and it 
had not yet build up a history of my usual locations like my home and work. I 
then received a notification when the hour was up, but I was doing other stuff 
so I ignored it for a while, not sure how long, but probably another hour or so 
and then when I went back to turn off stolen device protection I guess too much 
time had passed and I had to do it all over again. Next time I went back maybe 
15 minutes after receiving the notification and I then was able to turn it off.
The other thing one should remember is that if you don’t have any other trusted 
devices things can get complicated with 2-factor authentication. Even for some 
Apple stuff I had to go through 2-factor authentication and enter the 6-digit 
code, fortunately we also have an iPad where I was able to receive said code.
As for setting up my Microsoft and some other accounts, I use the Microsoft 
Authenticator app and of course you need to authenticate to set up the 
authenticator app. Fortunately this was possible with a combination of getting 
a code at one of my emails and text, but I tell you it can get complicated and 
hopefully it will be many years until I wish to do this again.

I've noticed a couple of times so far when dictating something in an email, my 
dictation entry is posted twice. Don't know if it's just one of those random

certain functions" and this is true, but after the developer utilizes its 
capabilities it is for everybody to get information about whatever might be 
going on on your iPhone.
For example, you may have a timer going or you might be playing some music and 
want to know what is playing. You can check in the dynamic island and it will 
give you the timer's countdown or tell you what is playing.
I believe Uber may have already integrated it so if you had a car ordered, the 
dynamic island would give you information about how far away it is etc.
I don't have an iPhone which has the dynamic island, but to my knowledge 
whatever is shown in there is read by Voiceover and is accessible.

No, you are not doing anything wrong. I am not exactly sure what it will be 
used for, but Dynamic Island is something available for app developers to use 
for certain functions. It just hasn’t been taken advantage of yet. 
So time will tell if will prove to be useful or a hindrance to us.

It can be set to the typical options like speak, play sound, change pitch,

Hi,

ONe use of Dynamic Island is for when you are not in the app and you want to 
see what is playing.

1. Start some music playing
2. Get completely out of the music app. Don’t close it, just go to your home 
screen or another app.
3. Now touch the Dynamic Island and see if it tells you what is playing.
Same with the timer
1. Start a timer
2. Go home
3. Touch the Dynamic Island. It should tell you how much time you have left in 
the timer.

If you cannot see it, call Apple accessibility. They may be able to screen 
share and tell you how to use it.

No, you are not doing anything wrong. I am not exactly sure what it will be 
used for, but Dynamic Island is something available for app developers to use 
for certain functions. It just hasn’t been taken advantage of yet. 
So time will tell if will prove to be useful or a hindrance to us.

dictation entry is posted twice. Don't know if it's just one of those random 
things or possibly a bug. Have only experienced in the message field of an

I have one major problem with iOS17 that has not been fixed.If I choose to use British Siri voice three or four with Voiceover when I charge my phone the voices are deleted and the device, an iPhone 15 Pro Max reverts to using Daniel.  I know I’m not alone in experiencing this issue and until recently the same behaviour occurred with my Apple Watch Series 7.Other than that, iOS7 has been working well for me.Malcolm ParfittOn 24 Jan 2024, at 23:32, Dan  wrote:

I personally use 1Password, not the built-in Apple solution, but I think the 
features are pretty similar.

Yes, I have different text tones for various groups of people.

And yes, I think you are right, Jenn,  in that if a string of messages is open, 
then you just get a blip rather than a ring tone when the person you are 
texting responds.

However, when I am using some apps, like Duo Lingo, it does seem that messages 
come in without a ring tone alert. Perhaps this is deliberate, in order not to 
interrupt, but I hadn’t noticed this happening before.

Yes, if you are in the message conversation, and your friend replies while 
still in it, you will here a little tone but not the tone set for your text 
tones. Have you set a particular tone for your texts in Settings, 
notifications? Just a thought.

Re: no on-screen keyboard

There seems to be a problem when you connect a Bluetooth braille display or keyboard to the iPhone. After you turn off the device and want to use the on screen, keyboard, it doesn’t show up.
