Re: Voicedream not downloading book share books.

2024-01-26 Thread Joshua Hendrickson
I have a very large voice dream library as well. I don't usually have
any problems when stuff says download complete. However, if these
files are large ones, like my audio dramas, even though I know the
file is completely downloaded, I have to wait a couple minutes or so,
for the file to kind of process and become available. If I don't,
I'll hear unavailable and the name of my zipped file. I'm talking
about audio dramas, that are 3 or more gigs in size. Voice dream
reader is great. I use it all the time. Bookshare downloads work
very well, and having a great selection of text to speech voices is
very nice

RE: navigation speech software on iPhone12 Pro

2024-01-26 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
You nmay want to try Good Maps Outdoors, of course you would have to use some
sort of headset which would allow you to hear the instructions from the GPS yet
also it should not block a lot of surrounding sounds like traffic.
I find the wired Apple Earpods work well for me because I can just use the
right side and they don’t block out much noise.
I usually have my phone in a belt holster which allows me to easily pull it out
if I have to interact with it.

Subject: navigation speech software on iPhone12 Pro

Hello All:
I have a iPhone12 pro and wonder if any of you use speech navigation software
to get around using a white cane?
What software and where or how do you carry your phone when walking?
I put my iPhone in a fanny pack but I think GPS was blocked. I believe I lost
the connection.
If so what software might I use and how easy to install and learn?
Thanks,
Ann

It may well be because I have a big Voice Dream library. But if it says
download complete, which it always does, I feel like I should be able to go
into my library and see it’s there. Not unavailable. Why is it unavailable? And
why God‘s name, since I have iCloud Sync enabled on both of my devices, why
doesn’t that work? I don’t even open it on my phone anymore because there’s so
many books that I’ve downloaded to my iPad that I know absolutely if I open my
phone there’s going to be a massive problem. So I suppose I should just not
have my phone answering with iCloud anymore. But then what do I do when I
finally get a new phone Probably next year? I just wish these people would get
into the guts of this thing and fix it.

I’m still having issues with Voice Dream downloading, saying it’s done, and
stuff not being available. And then for whatever reason, it eventually becomes
available. This was not the case before. I know I have a large library. But
this is ridiculous. I thought they had fixed it. But now it’s just erratic as
hell. I can pretty much count on downloading something on my iPad which is the
fastest device I have, a mini six, it says it’s downloaded. I go there and they
always say unavailable. And there’s a guessing game as to how I can magically
make it become available. I don’t know who these folks are who took this over.
But they’ve still got a problem. Before they add new features like new file
types etc., I wish to God they would fix the problem they have with the basic
download and hey this should be available right now, shouldn’t it? I’ve given
up with my iPhone. I have a Voice Dream library on my iPhone and my iPad mini
six. But the iPhone just doesn’t catch up ever. So I don’t open it ever. Stupid
huh? I wish Winston had kept the app. These guys don’t know what they’re doing,
or maybe they do, but then they should explain this stupid download problem. At
least I’m not one of the poor suckers that has to keep paying for this app. I
wouldn’t want to pay for it in the current state it’s in. Not as a newbie.

After reading your message, I opened voice Dream Reader, and selected a book
from bookshare and it downloaded in less than a minute.

I would check your Bookshare settings and especially your internet connection.

Do you have lots of apps open on your device?

If so, close them out of the app switcher.

Vpn Recommendations

2024-01-26 Thread Peter Logan
Anyone
Sent from my IPhone.Just wondering if anyone has any strong opinions of the
different VPN’s for the IPhone…. Been a couple of years since I have looked
into them. Looking for something that is of course accessible, but that also
doesn’t impact surfing speeds and doesn’t do any logging. Something that also
works well across Mac and Windows is a plus.

I used Express VPN a couple of years ago and it was fine on the IP, but not the
greatest on a PC.

Thanks in advance for any and all assistance.

navigation speech software on iPhone12 Pro

2024-01-26 Thread Ann M Medlar
Hello All:

I have a iPhone12 pro and wonder if any of you use speech navigation
software to get around using a white cane?

What software and where or how do you carry your phone when walking?

I put my iPhone in a fanny pack but I think GPS was blocked. I believe I
lost the connection.

If so what software might I use and how easy to install and learn?

Thanks,

Ann

As long as I can still share files and get them on to my iPhone, I'll
continue to use iTunes. If there were another way to share files and
get them on to my phone, I'd use it. Glad you can make ringtones from
songs. That is very nice.

While I find Apple Music to be a wonderful service I’ve been a user since 2015
it does have its drawbacks. Fortunately data is not too expensive here in the
UK so whether streaming via WiFi or mobile data it’s not too bad. However,
unless you regularly explore new music you run the risk of paying for albums
over and over again. Then there is the issue when or if you discontinue your
subscription you lose access to all your music whereas buying physical media or
downloaded content you will still have access to your library.

I suspect Sieghard is right on here.
However, the timing is rather vague. I found tons of articles from January of
2023 talking about this, but no articles in a year.

I don't want to risk messing up what is working currently by downloading any of
the previews, but I won't be surprised if the switch happens with very little
notice or fanfair.

So, be ready with good backups...

Then enjoy it while it lasts which most likely won't be too much longer now
that the Apple Music, Apple TV and Apple Devices apps are on the Microsoft
Store.
There are plenty of articles which confirm that it is likely Apple will replace
iTunes with these apps, maybe this year, maybe next, but once Apple released
these separate apps for the Mac, iTunes for the Mac went away pretty quick. Of
course at this point you can't do Books or Podcasts with any of these 3 apps so
most likely such apps will be coming for Windows first before iTunes goes away.
There is of course also the fact that you and others who transfer huge amounts
of media whether MP3, M4A or Daisy format are a very small minority considering
how easy it is to access this stuff via the web and as I read in one article,
Apple used to make a huge amount of money from the sale of downloadable music
on iTunes, but now service revenue which means streaming revenue and revenue
from services such as iCloud, News etc. is hugely bigger than what people still
spend on actually buying music. I am very much part of that demographic, I used

small, locally produced artist. For more or less half of what a CD cost 30
years ago I can pay my monthly Apple Music subscription and listen to anything
I want wherever I am.

In any case, the point o fthis post was more about how with this free app it is
very easy to make ringtones from songs and add them to your ringtones library
right on the iPhone without ever touching any other device and I find this
quite cool and it is certainly something I will do from now on. Many years ago
I wrote a tutorial on how to make ringtones in iTunes and boy was it
complicated compared to using this Ringtone Maker app and Garage Band.

RE: sluggish phone

2024-01-26 Thread Richard Turner
First, do you clear apps out of the app switcher regularly?
I know Apple says that isn't necessary, but I have often seen and experienced
situations where if too many apps are in the app switcher, the phone becomes
very sluggish. It is after all, a computer, and if resources get low, it slows
down.

If the two finger swipe isn't working, make sure that the Screen Recognition is
not on.

Agreed. In addition, there are times that my phone just appears to stick on
one screen for at least a minute before I have to turn off voice over and back
on to get it moving again.
Current IOS with SE third edition phone.

Since updating my iPhone 14 to IOS 172.1 I am having issues with my phone..

I am unable to read all using two finger swipe down. The scrub does not always
respond and I have to find the back button.

Overall my phone seems to be lagging.

Any advice?

Thanks

RE: Creating ringtones on iPhone with Ringtone Maker and Garage Band apps

2024-01-26 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
I am very much part of that demographic, I used
to spend hours in music stores back in Germany in the mid and late 80's
listening to vinyl and later CD's and buying them, still very much so here in
Canada throughout the 90's, but already starting in the early 2000's I started
downloading music and of course now I have my Apple Music subscription which
gives me access to just about any music ever made unless it is of course some
small, locally produced artist.

I'll stick with iTunes. I use it all the time to get audio books and audio
dramas on to my iPhone. I use the file sharing option in iTunes.
