Hi all. For some reason my iMessaging feature got turned off on my phone. Now it won't let me turn it back on unless I use my apple ID. I thought before I had it where it used my phone number. I don't want to use my apple ID because I don't get mail at that address anymore. Now, what can I do? Thanks for any help. Jenifer. I work for Braille Institute and we've just released ViA, a free app that aggregates and categorizes apps that are useful to VI uses and educators. I'd like to invite this community to use it and provide feedback. There is one issue with Voice Over that comes up when it reads an apps star rating that we are fixing. Otherwise, it is fully accessible, including pinch zoom capability on any page for low vision users Any suggestions are welcome and I encourage you to use the built in accessibility rating system to share your knowledge of apps that are useful to you. Before you go throwing the blind card I suggest that you digest what the person is attempting to impart. I have and will continue to support apps that are created for our community. Your assertion that I am one of those blinds who believe that everything for blind consumption should be handed to us without cost is incorrect and quite frankly offensive. My intent in voicing my opinion this morning was to indicate to Ben that I think he made a mistake in the way he implemented his pricing model and maybe that he should possibly rethink it, not to get into a pissing match with you or anyone else. Set a price for full functionality up front and let me decide if I am willing to pay that price. That is my point. Now on to your point. I reviewed the description in the app store when I purchased the app. Nowhere did it indicate that I was going to eventually have to pay something for what I was downloading. Now after 30 days he posts to this list that this would be happening, and the only reason he posted was because there was a bug in the app that didn't give you the correct price. Had there not been a bug I would have attempted to post something and then been prompted with a popup saying that this functionality no longer worked and if I wanted to use this functionality I would have to pay $1.99 for it. In my book this is extortion. Granted you are thinking that I am a dick and it's only 2 dollars so shut the hell up. But like I said before, had he charged me 2 dollars up front I would not be offended, insulted and disgusted. But I think there is a possibility it will work. I thought it up when I heard of somebody's husband breaking off her cord's plug in her XM satellite receiver. We didn't get to try the following, being that I didn't know about it until after they had thrown the whole thing in the trash. Being totally blind, I definitely would get competent sighted assistance for this one. And I would do several dry runs first. But get a toothpick and some instant glue. Put a very small drop of instant glue onto the toothpick, and stick to a point as near the center of this broken off connector as possible. The flatter it broke off, the better. You certainly don't want any of this glue to get into the jack, so if I were doing it, I would hold the phone in such a way that it is above the toothpick, and lower the phone onto the toothpick. Hopefully, any extra glue will run down the toothpick and not into the jack. Wait a few seconds, and see if you can pull the whole mess out. I think you might have one shot only. Re: Layout for Hidden Country Bluetooth Mini-Keyboard [was Re: bluetooth miny keyboard]
Esther, thank you so much! I really appreciate it! Jenifer Gilley email claudas...@gmail.com MSN: claudas...@cox.net - Original Message - From: Esther mori...@mac.com To: viphone@googlegroups.com Sent: Wednesday, June 06, 2012 6:05 PM Subject: Layout for Hidden Country Bluetooth Mini-Keyboard [was Re: bluetooth miny keyboard] Hi Jenifer, Your question about the layout of the Hidden Country Bluetooth Mini-Keyboard prompted me to search the viphone list archives, since I recall that Geoff Waaler posted the layout for this keyboard. You did, indeed, order a Hidden Country keyboard, since I found that post first. First, I'll just state that if you've managed to pair your Bluetooth keyboard, you can always find out what the keys are by turning on keyboard help mode. Even if you don't know where your Control and Option (or Alt) keys are located, in order to press Control-Option-K to enter this mode, where you'll be told each key and its action by VoiceOver when you press that key or key combination, or even if your keyboard does not have a Control or Option key, it is possible to enter this mode by using the touch screen to navigate to the VoiceOver Practice gestures area in Settings General Accessibility VoiceOver while the keyboard is paired. This has the same effect as entering keyboard help mode with Control-Option-K, and you can leave keyboard help mode by navigating away from the VoiceOver Practice area using touch screen gestures instead of pressing the escape key to end this mode. I'll paste in Geoff's post giving the layout of the Bear Motion Bluetooth Mini-Keyboard, which I've copied from the Google Groups web page for the viphone list. I believe this is the brand that you ordered from Hidden Country (or shop.hidcountry, com) at the time, because they were also supplying this keyboard through Amazon. According to my hazy recollection, Geoff ordered this from Amazon, and Andrea ordered hers from Hidden Country, but the layout was the same. I also recall that Ricardo Walker much later did a podcast on the Bear Motion Bluetooth Mini-Keyboard, which turned out to be similar to the layout of the ThinkGeek TK-421 mini-keyboard that I reviewed. If Geoff's description is relevant for your keyboard, which I believe it is, then in order to access the arrow keys you need to press the Fn key together with the a, s, d, or w key. Hopefully, any future searchers will be able to quickly find this information through a Mail Archive search, now that the viphone list has a secondary archive page at: http://www.mail-archive.com/viphone@googlegroups.com/ Geoff's post with the keyboard info appears below my signature. He actually describes the physical layout of the keyboard and where you can switch it on, so this should be better than just giving you a map of keyboard function combinations. Geoff uses F to indicate the Fn key in key press combinations. There is both a left Fn key and a right Fn key on the bottom row, so you can use either one in these combinations. HTH. Cheers, Esther begin quote From: Geoff Waaler Subject: Bear motion mini BT keyboard helpful hints. Date: Sep 10 2010, 6:52 am Greetings, Esther's recent reference to the escape key reminded me that maybe I can spare a few people the modicum of frustration I experienced locating this. Its great that so many are generous with their time creating podcasts and tutorials, but I'm sure there are many others who abhor time consuming podcasts as much as I when concise instructions will suffice -- honestly reading lists such as this one I often wonder how blind people ever managed to use the bath room, pick their noses or put on clothing before the days of podcasts lasting hours describing every solitary detail, but I digress. I don't know about any other mini keyboards, so the following is only necessarily applicable for the Bare Motion Mini bt keyboard. The link for this product at the US Amazon site is: http://www.amazon.com/Exclusive-offer-Bear-Motion-Smartphone/dp/B003T... The paring button is just above the 8 -- you'll notice a tiny recessed place where you can put a finger nail if you don't bite them. To pair you'd power the keyboard on and go into settings - general - bluetooth, and verify that bluetooth is turned on. Remain in that window, and hold down the pair button on the keyboard for a couple seconds. After a few moments the mini keyboard will appear in your Bluetooth settings area. When you double tap, a prompt is presented instructing you to enter a four digit number on the keyboard, followed by the return key. Hi everyone! Okay, this is not exactly a life-altering issue, but it is a bit annoying. grin. I live in the city of Santa Cruz, California. When I first set up my phone and everybody starts looking for my location, the weather widget comes up and quickly says Capitola or Aptos Hills. Now, these towns are clear across the county and their weather is quite different than it is where I live. The only way I get around this is to turn off local weather and add a city, mine. When I type in my zip code, well, truthfully, it now shows me another town up in the hills, but it's closer to Santa Cruz. So, my question. Can I reset local weather by making it search for my location again? I'm assuming that if I have local weather turned on, it will show the weather wherever I am if I travel. Is that a correct assumption? I have tried turning weather off, in the location services section of settings and then turning it back on again. This did not fix the problem. And just for fun, by the way, I tried adding the extra four digits of my zip code. That was good for a laugh. It showed me Portugal. Anyway, if anyone knows of a good article on the weather widget that I'm not finding, that would be cool. Thanks for any help any of you can offer. Re: iOS 5.1.1 is out
Nothing accessibility. A few bugs that were addressed in photo stream, airplay, and two more things I can't remember, but nothing that has to do with accessibility. I'm updating now though just because. I remember running into some issues that didn't prevent me from updating to 5.1 on my phone, but did crash it the first time I tried downloading it. Gizmodo only mentions a few bug fixes so I don't know if there's anything accessibility related. Perhaps others can dig up the information. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the VIPhone Google Group.
