But with the app you mentioned Tom you have to get assistance from a
sighted person to set up the route? I don't have any sighted people
around to help me.

 I can't find the currency reader either. I have an iPhone 7. This is
weird. I was really looking forward to trying out the currency reader.

Hi.
  I am a huge Uber user and haven't tried lyft yet actually. I wish I knew
more of what to say. The only thing I can think of is contact support. I
know you can't call but maybe try doing it through the website. When I got
my new  phone last year I signed in perfectly fine  with no problems. Sorry
I can't help more.

 I also don't have any issues with Uber. We have lived here but it's not
nearly as popular as Uber and often when I open the Lyft app there are no
drivers available.

Hi.  i  use Uber all the time and absolutely love it. You can sign up for
an account right through the app no need to go to any websites. Just
wondering what do you mean right now they face a real threat? Like do you
see them completely  going away? Here in Morgantown they are really really
popular  with the college students.

Alarm Clock options?

Hi Everyone:
Instead of the Iphone default ringtone for my alarm, I think I need
the alarm to be top 40 music to wake me up.
Is there an app or something where I could set it to wake me up with a
top 40 station?
Is there any way to set the Iphone alarm to play the Top Pop station
in Apple music instead of the ringtone?
I looked in the Iheart radio app and there is an alarm there but you
have to apparently leave the app open all night in order for the alarm
to go off.
Are there any apps where you can close the app and the alarm will still go off?
I looked in the Pandora radio app and there doesn't seem to be an alarm...
The problem is with the Iphohnes alarm I just roll over and turn it
off...I feel like if a station like Top Hits or Top Pop or something
like that would play that would wake me up more...any options?

Thanks for all the responses.
Periscope is a live streaming app. You can find it in the app store.
I have found tons and tons of live streams. I mainly watch individuals
just chatting or individuals attending sporting events or concerts. It
is an app where you can broadcast what you are doing. People can watch
and give you comments and hearts. I love Periscope because I can put
on a broadcast and even though I am in my house I feel like I am with
the person and not alone in my house.
Lots of news sources periscope such as BBC, Steve Harvey, Good morning
America, the Today show, TMZ used to...just search for your favorite
broadcaster or newscaster or news source and I am sure they are on
there.
It's a really awesome app!
As for Facebook Live, I will have to just keep waiting and see when
the new features roll out to me.

I am so excited about this.
I am wondering though how you went about first getting the Twitter
developers attention to this problem, and then next convincing them to
fix this.
I really wish the Snapchat app would become more accessible because
Snapchat is becoming hugely popular and is now being used for
communication purposes.
Did the Twitter developers just pay attention to  the review you
posted of their app in the ITunes app store?
Did you take any other steps to alert them or anything?
I am asking all of this because I want to try to do a similar thing
with Snapchat and get them to make Snapchat accessible.
I am so excited about moments though!!! I can finally now really clean
out my Twitter follow list and now I can follow top stories without
having to follow tons of people!!

Hi:
I also would like to send a bug report to twitter asking them to fix
this issue. In fact, I was excitedly going to look at the moments from
the Super Bowl game yesterday, and upon opening the Iphone app using
Voiceover couldn't find the moments tab anywhere. Twitter needs to
address this asap as moments are indeed an important way to follow
events from around the world. And, they even have categories such as
entertainment and sports.
My question is how do I submit a bug report similar to the one you submitted?
Did you just go to the twitter app in the app store, hit the reviews
tab, and tapped on the "write review" button and put your text in a
review?
Or is there an actual "bug report" button?
I'd also like to send a similar report to Snapchat asking them to make
their app accessible as it's extremely popular and it makes me very
angry that we are left out of enjoying the videos and pictures on that
very popular app.

Hi Everyone:
I have bad news.
I updated to 9.01 this morning. I closed all my running apps, turned
my phone off for a few minutes, and turned it back on. I even turned
Voiceover off and back on.
I am still having the same problem.
Should I report? I was really hoping this would be fixed in 9.1.
I wonder why some of us have it and some of us don't if we are all
using Voiceover?

Possible Bug in IOS 9/rotor problem

Ever since updating to IOS 9, I am having a problem regarding the
rotor and I'm not sure if I am doing something wrong or if this is a
bug.
It used to be if I set the rotor to say words I could go into any app
and read by words.
Now when I set the rotor to words and then go into a text message and
try to edit it the rotor keeps going back to characters. Even if I try
to put it back on words it keeps going back to characters and it's
really annoying because I like to edit my messages going through word
by word instead of character by character.
Is anyone else having this problem/experiencing this?
Is there a setting or something new in IOS 9 I need to change or
switch to keep the rotor from going to character mode when I set it to
words?

A Question About Apple Music

Hi Everyone:
I excitedly signed up for Apple Music.
However, there is something I can't seem to figure out and so have a
question in case I am doing something wrong.
My question is is there a way to find a list of playlists either by
jaunra or mood?
I don't like the recommendations Apple picked for me under the for you tab.
I'd like to be able to look at playlists under the pop jaunra or by
mood such as chill out, work out, or something like that.
Or, maybe a playlist of the most streamed tracks...is there any way to
find other playlists besides just the ones Apple picks for you
initially?

Ibooks Questions!

Hi Everyone!!
There are a few books on Ibooks/Kindle that I want to read that aren't
available on Bookshare or BARD. My problem though is I hate reading
books/novels with the voiceover voice. Is there any other way to read
Ibooks/kindle books besides with standard Voiceover? Is there any way
to read them on the PC? Can Kindle books be read on the PC using your
screenreader? I don't mind reading with the eloquence voice...just not
the voiceover voice.

Hi Everyone:
I am a huge SiriusXM fan and love this new app.
On the bottom there should be several buttons which are labeled.
The first is channels where you can select channels to listen to and
pick from categories.
When you are on the channels screen there is also a button for on-demand too.
Then there is the recent button which I believe tells you what you've
most recently been listening to.
Then there is the search button where you can search for a channel or show.
Then there is the me which gives you settings and such.
Then there is favorites and on the favorites you can choose between
channels or shows.
I love this new app.
It's different than the old one but I think a lot better.
The only little problem I have run into is when you select the
channels tab it's hard to swipe through channels
Also when you select favorites and press the channels button it's hard
to swipe through your favorite channels.
But, when you select favorites and shows you can swipe through those fine.
Other than that little issue with swiping through the channels it's
totally accessible to me.

I was looking in the app store last night and came across the Seeing
Eye GPS app from Sendero.
Since it is specifically for the visually impaired/blind, is this a good one?
What apps do you all use for GPS?
I saw where you could make a one-time purchase for the Seeing Eye
gps...is it worth it?

Taking Pictures With the Iphone?

Hi Everyone:

I really want to get into this taking pictures thing.
I am seeing more and more posts on Facebook where there is a caption
and then a picture or several.
Is there anyone out there who is blind and takes decent pictures with
their Iphones?
How do you do it and make sure the picture is decent?
What is the best way to hold the phone so the camera is aimed at what
you want to take a picture of?
That is what I have the most trouble with. I know what I want to take
a picture of, and know where the object is, but can never figure out
how to hold the phone so the camera gets a decent picture of the
object.
Is the best way to use Tap Tap See and then just take pictures until
you get the proper description from Tap Tap see?
I know with voiceover, and the Iphone taking pictures is a lot more
possible than it used to be, I just can't figure out how to hold the
phone.
Also, I have an Iphone 5s. Do those of you who have the 6 and 6plus
find any improvement in taking pictures with the better/bigger
cameras?

mine a few days ago.
I would just search on walmart.com or target.com or bestbuy.com for
Plantronics inserts or something like that.
I can't imagine they would be that much.

Plantronics Voyager Legend Question...

Hi Everyone:

Because of the great recommendations on this list, I got the
Plantronics Voyager Legend Bluetooth headset the other day.
It is working great, and I love it except there is one problem.
It seems when I try to talk on a phone call with it, the person can't hear me.
The call goes through fine, but when the person answers and I try to
talk they can't seem to hear me.
I have moved the microphone to as close to  my mouth as I can.
Is there a button or something I need to press before speaking so the
person can hear me?
Is there a firmware update or something that fixes this issue?
Is anyone else with this headset having this problem?

For years and years now, I have happily and contentedly purchased
music from ITunes, and played it on my phone or PC and also had it
stored in the cloud with I-Cloud.
I like to keep up with new technology and trends though, (it makes me
feel younger to do this) and these streaming services such as Spotify
and Beats seem to be the new way to go.
I was wondering which everyone prefers: Spotify or Beats.
What are the differences/advantages/disadvantages between the two services?
I have looked at both.
I'm still on the fence about paying $10 a month just to stream music.
However, with Beats you can pay per year. I wouldn't mind the idea of
paying per year and streaming.
Does Beats provide off-line listening for if I were on a plane or something?
Do they provide playlists like Spotify does?

And, last but not least, the biggest thing I feel that keeps me from

Questions about Using a Braille display with an I-Device

Hi Everyone:

I am considering purchasing a braille display and pairing it with my
Iphone and using this as a notetaker.
Currently, I have a very old, very outdated Pacmate from 2007 that I
haven't used in like two years.
Because the cost of a traditional blindness notetaker (such as say the
Braille Sense u2) is like $5,000 I was considering purchasing a
braille display and just paring it with my Iphone.
Does anyone do this and if so how does it work for you?
Is it a viable option?
How does it do when you have to take notes in an hour-long class or meeting?
Do most of the braille displays have a way for you to take notes on
them internally or do you have to use an app on the Iphone for taking
notes?
Besides being able to take notes and read them in braille, another
thing I really miss doing is reading books from say Bookshare, BARD,
or I-Books with a braille display.
Does reading novels/books from these sites work well using a braille
display and an Iphone?

Questions about KNFB Reader...

Hi Everyone:

I am still having a little trouble with KNFB Reader.
Last night, I went to my parents house and tried using the KNFB Reader there.
I did get it to successfully scan a flat letter, but I have a bunch of
paperback books I really want to read that I was hoping I could sort
of use the KNFB reader to read.
I went through the archives on this list and I read how a few people
successfully got results with paperback books but I'm still having a
lot of trouble with paperback books.
I also have not gotten the tilted guidance to stop vibrating at all.
By reading the archives, people are saying it is best to hold the
phone in landscape mode...what does that mean?
Also, people said it is best to hold the phone 10- inches or so above
the page...how high is that?
I guess I'm just feeling frustrated because I still don't think I am
doing it right. Every once in a while I get good results but usually I
end up holding the phone close to the page and yet to get the best
results you are supposed to hold it 10 inches above the page but I
have no idea how high 10 inches is and I still have not gotten the
guidance to completely stop vibrating.
Have you been able to get good/accurate results on a standard, gently
used paperback book?
For someone like me who is having trouble, would purchasing a standscan be best?
Has the standscan made it easier to get accurate results?
Would a standscan help with my wanting to scan and read a paperback book?

KNFB Reader Help?

Hey Everyone:

I excitedly purchased the KNFB reader app yesterday.
However, I seem to be having a lot of trouble with it.
I have tried to do several scans but can't seem to get good results.
I tried holding the camera sideways.
I tried holding it straight up and down.
I tried holding it with the camera lens facing down towards the page.
I have the tilted guidance setting on.
Every once in a while, it will stop vibrating and I will try to take a
picture, and sometimes it will kind of read some text but it's very
jumbled and while it gets some words it often doesn't make sense.
However, I keep reading how so many others are getting great results.
Just last week, I was able to witness a demonstration of this app, and
it worked great.
I don't have much printed material around at the moment, so have been
trying to scan a random page from a paperback book.
Does lighting make a difference?
How do you hold the phone to get the best results?
For those who got great results on their first try, what did you do
and how did you hold the phone?
I even listened to the Applevis podcast.
I was just initially so excited about this app when I heard the
demonstrations of how well it worked and it's not seeming to work very
well for me.
What am I doing wrong?

Best Taxi Apps?

Hi Everyone:

What are some good apps for finding the numbers of taxi/cab companies
in the area where you are?
I have had an app on my phone for a number of years called Rocket Taxi
but while visiting some relatives in Naples Florida I tried to call
one of the taxi companies listed on the app and it turns out the
rocket taxi app is outdated and has the wrong information/listings for
current cab companies.
What apps do you all use for finding taxi company numbers?
Can you ask siri about taxi numbers or something?
It just seems there should be a good reliable app for this...I did
eventually find the correct number for the taxi company here but if my
relatives had not been around to help me I'm not sure what I would've
done.

Bard Mobile App?

I just downloaded the bard mobile app and am trying to figure out how to use it.
Here is the thing. I have tons of books downloaded to my computer that
I put on my old victor stream.
Is there any way to transfer these books from my computer to my Iphone?
If you have several books downloaded but haven't listened to them yet,
how do you redownload them to the phone using the app?
Also, how do you search for books using the app?

Need Help With Iphone5S...

Hi Everyone:

I need some help.
Today, I ppicked up my Iphone 5S.
Before going to the AT&T store, I made sure to back up my Iphone4S
both to ICloud and to the computer using Itunes.
At the AT&T store, because of time constraints, they told me to just
go home and plug my Iphone5S into the computer and hit "restore from
backup."
I did this, and my apps are on my new Iphone5S.
However, here is the problem.
The problem is the app store keeps telling me I have 84 app updates
available. However, when I try to hit the update button, it is dimmed.
Basically, from what I can tell I have 84 app updates available and
all of them are stuck on 0 percent downloaded and when I try to hit
the update apps button it is dimmed.
Can someone please help? I want to get these apps updated.
I even thought I could  update them through Itunes but I don't see an
"update apps" button anywhere in Itunes.
Help!!
Did I do something wrong when I hit the restore from backup button?
Is there any way to get these apps updated?
Am I going to have to reinstall all nine pages of apps?

Questions About Getting The 5S...

Hi Everyone:

I ordered the Iphone5S last week and it has arived at the AT&T store.
I am planning to pick it up tomorrow.
I have had my Iphone 4S for about two years now so have tons of
contacts, music, and apps on it.
For those of you who upgraded from a previous Iphone (such as the 4,
4S, or 5) to the new Iphone 5S, how did you transfer your stuff from
your previous phone to your new phone?
If I just log into Icloud will everything automatically download such
as my music, apps, and contacts?
What about the "restore from backup" on Itunes? Does that work?
What was your experience like transferring your stuff over and how did
you do it?

How To Work Around Screen Sensitivity Bug?

Hi All:

I posted yesterday about what I thought was a text messaging bug where
my voiceover kept jumping when I would try to edit a text message I
ddictated.
After doing a little more investigating/playing around, I have
determined that the problem is not the messages app but I believe I am
experiencing the screen sensitivity bug.
Here is what is happening. I dictate a message. I swipe to the word I
want to correct. That goes fine and the voiceover is on the word.
Well, when I lift my finger and then go to put it on the delete spot
my finger is about to touch the spot and all of a sudden voiceover
jumps to another word.
This is very frustrating because this is happening all the time when I
try to edit a text message.
I believe it is the screen sensitivity bug.
What is the work around for this bug?
Also, I ordered a 5S last week and am now waiting for it to come in.
Does this bug occur on the 5S as well?
Right now I am using a 4S.
I hope there is a work around for this bug as it is really really frustrating!

Thanks for this.
So, what is the easiest way then to edit a message if it is several lines long?
I have the rotor set to words so when I swipe up with a finger it
reads the word but it seems like it also kind of jumps around and when
I think I am on the right word I want to correct or delete the cursor
seems to move. Or, I accidentally hit a finger on one of the lines and
the cursor goes there.
So, if the message is several lines how do I edit it?

Text Messaging Issue in IOS7?

Hi Everyone:

I'm not sure if this is a bug or something that's new in IOS7 that I
just can't figure out.
But, before in IOS 6, when you were trying to compose a message all
the text of the message would be in one line/place in the edit field.
So, if you are like me and use dictation frequently it was easy to
dictate the message, listen to voiceover read the message, then
correct any mistakes by swiping with a finger to the incorrect word,
and deleting it or correcting it.
However, I notice in IOS 7 it's like the edit field is several lines
long instead of just one straight line of text. So, it causes me a
problem when I dictate and want to correct something when I swipe to
try to get to the word to correct it it's like voiceover sort of jumps
around. I'm finding it very hard to get the cursor on the word I want
and correct it.
Also, if I am trying to swipe and my finger hits one of the multiple
lines of the message the cursor automatically jumps to that line
instead of where it was originally at.
Are others having trouble with editing text messages?
How have you gotten around this?
Have you figured it out?
Is there something I am doing wrong or is this a bug?
I don't mind that the message field is now multiple lines but it makes
it really hard to edit the message for those of us who use dictation
frequently.

Questions About Upgrading To The New IOS/Getting The New Iphone5S

Hi Everyone:

I currently have an Iphone 4S. I have had this 4s for around two years now.
I have tons of music on it, nine pages of apps, and tons of contacts.
Because it's been around two years since I've gotten a new phone, I am
considering possibly getting the new Iphone 5S.
However, with all my music, contacts, and apps on this phone what do I
need to do to ensure everything could be transferred to the new phone
if I get one?
I of course will sync my phone to Itunes and will click the "back up" button.
I also have stuff backed up on ICloud.
However, how will this work? Can they transfer my music and contacts
at the AT&T store?
Also, whether I get the new phone or not, I am planning to upgrade to
the new IOS7.
Since it is such a major upgrade, how can I ensure I don't lose my
music and contacts after upgrading?
If I make sure to sync my phone and hit the "back up" button, and then
make sure to do a "backup" in ICloud, should I be covered then?
I am most concerned about my contacts and music more than anything.

Hi:

Okay, the apps I would love love love to see made accessible are the following:
ESPN Score Center. This app is totally accessible except when you
flick through the scores voiceover makes a sound like you are on an
object but it does not read the score. Everything else is accessible.
I really really want to use this app and that is the only thing that
isn't accessible. I can't seem to find a help or anything in the app.
I tweeted them but that seems to be all I can find. The app is made by
ESPN and so that is the only website listed which of course ESPN is a
sports giant so I would have no idea who to contact about it.
Travelocity: this is another one that is so close to being accessible.
Everything is accessible except for when you are searching for a
flight when you go to select your departure and return dates, the
calendar is not accessible to select the dates.
Orbitz: This one has a bunch of unlabeled buttons and such.
I looked under app info in the app itself and found a contact form but
it's on the iphone. I feel I can express myself much better by typing
in a form on the computer.
When you are looking for these contact/support forms to contact the
developer, do you find the info on the iphone and contact hthem using
the iphone or is there a way to find the contact info through the PC
and contact them that way?
The problem I am having is the apps I am wanting to make more
accessible are made by big companies so just browing say
travelocity.com or espn.com doesn't really give me the info I need
because the websites are so big and contain such large amounts of
contents.
How do I find the info for these three apps and is there a way to
contact them through the PC or do I have to use the Iphone?

Questions About The Heytell App

Hi Everyone:

I recently discovered the Heytell app.
However, I have a question.
I have Heytell connected to my Facebook account.
However, I can't seem to be able to see who uses Heytell from my
Facebook friends. When I hit the button to select contact it brings up
my address book.
Is there any way I can see my Facebook friends instead of my address book?
Also, I don't see a contacts tab. Do you just hit the select contact
button from the conversations tab in order to see your contacts?
I want to see my Facebook friends though, not my address book.

I wanted to find a book to try to purchase!
I'm so excited Kindle has finally become accessible to us! I just hope

Hi:

I fixed the problem!!
I plugged my phone in.
I checked the music section after a couple of minutes.
It said there were 796 songs which is one more than it was previously
saying which was 795.
So, I checked under Hot Chelle Rae again (I have more than one song by
Hot Chelle Rae.)
Sure enough, there it was.
So, I'm not sure why it didn't automatically add to my library but I
now know that plugging my phone automatically adds anything that isn't
on my computer to it.
At least, that's what I think happened.

Thanks for all your help, and yes Hung up is an awesome song!!

Okay, thanks for all this.
But, bad news.
It's not showing up.
It's not showing up when I search.
I checked the albums list and it's not under h.
I have the column browser enabled, and songs radio button checked, and
everything.
It's not showing up anywhere, but it is in the folder.
I guess I could just go to the Itunes store, and hit buy again, and
then when it says you've already purchased this song I can hit
redownload.
But, I don't understand why it is doing this. It's really annoying.
What about syncing my phone? Would that automatically put the song in
my library?
The song is on my phone; I just checked. Is there some way to add it
to my library from my phone?

Hi Guys:

I am trying to keep you all updated so you can best help me with this problem.
Okay, I went into the file menu in Itunes and hit the add folder to
library button and added the song that way.
The computer once again made the noise like something had been added.
However, when I go to music, and then the arist name the song isn't there.
My music is organized by artist, song, and album.
The song I am trying to get into my library is called Hung Up and is
by the artist Hot Chelle Rae.
So, I hit the add song to library button and the computer makes the
noise like soemthing has been added.
When I go to hot chelle rae and look through the songs, the song Hung
up is not there.
Is there something I need to hit or something to update my library or something?
The song should go under the artist Hot Chelle Rae and I can't figure
out why it's not.

Hi Arnold and Everyone:

Okay, this solved my initial problem but now it has created another one lol.
I guess sometime today the song did in fact download to my PC.
However, as soon as I saw this response I automatically went into the
store and tried to redownload the song without checking my library
first to see if the song had in fact downloaded.
Now I have two copies of the song in my library.
I tried to delete one copy but then it got replaced with a copy of the
song from ICloud.
I tried to delete this copy but it said if I deleted it it would
delete it from my Itunes match and ICloud, which I don't want it to
do.
I just want one copy of the song in my library but I also want the
song in my Icloud and such too.
Is there any way to remove the duplicate of the song from ICloud
without deleting it completely?
Oh, and I learned my lesson lol. If a song doesn't show up right away
wait either a few hours or until the next day and it will likely be
there. Also, check your library first before trying to redownload a
song or you will get duplicates g!!

Question About The Nook App

I downloaded the nook app to browse for a book.
Is it possible to browse the nook book store from the app itself
without having to go to the website?
I don't see any buttons for the store.
It just says I have no books in my library and to check the website to
browse for books.
Can you not browse the nook store on the app itself?

Hi:

I have music dock as well.
However, when I click on a station to listen to, it seems to take
forever to load the station. I'm talking like two minutes or so. Also,
it seems to cut out a lot and then it has to reload which takes
another two minutes.

I am happily using the Sirius xm app thanks to your work-around.
I will definitely be writing Sirius XM.
It is ridiculous that we have to go through so many hoops (including
turning off our software to access the phone) just to access a product
that we are paying money for.
I have been a subscriber of Sirius xm for many years and love it.
Right now I am temporarily living away from home and do not have my
Sirius XM boom box with me.
So, I subscribed to the Sirius XM Internet plan so I could still
continue to access Sirius XM from my phone while I am away from home.
I was very angry when I discovered the Iphone app was inaccessible.
Thanks so much for your wonderful work-around!
I sincerely appreciate you taking the time to write out such a through
detailed description of how to use this app until it is fixed.

Sirius XM On The Iphone?

Hi Everyone:

I was wondering if anyone knew of a way to listen to Sirius XM on the iphone.
I have downloaded the Sirius XM app but once you click on a channel
you can't seem to be able to go back to the list of
categories/channels to select a different one.
Is the sirius xm app just inaccessible or is there a way to be able to
go back to the list of categories/channels with voiceover?
Is there another app I can use instead of the Sirius XM app to access
sirius xm content?
Someone told me about music dock but the problem with it is that when
you click to listen to a station it takes up to two minutes or more
for the station to begin playing. I also notice significant battery
drainage when I use this music dock app and it also cuts out a lot and
has to restart playing the channel so I begin to listen and then it
stops for around two minutes or more. It is very annoying.
This sirius xm thing is rather upsetting to me because I am paying for
the internet radio service and I can't even access it!
