Finding Apple Id Password

2021-05-31 Thread Marcia Yale
I was prompted to change my password a few months ago and I thought I
changed it to something I would remember--yes, I can't remember it! Is there
a way to find out what my Apple Id password is? I googled the question and
found that I should have been able to find it on my Mac, but that didn't
work, so I'm back to my iPhone.

Apple Podcasts less accessible since major update

2021-05-13 Thread Marcia Yale
Hello, everyone. If you use the above app and have noticed that flicking
through episodes is much less stable lately, please let Apple Accessibility
know. The more of us who show them the fact that VoiceOver jumps all over
the place when you flick through a list of episodes, the sooner they might
consider fixing it! Thanks in advance!

Trouble with attachments

2021-05-04 Thread Marcia Yale
I upgraded to IOS14.5.1 yesterday. Today I received an email and I was able
to find the attachment on my PC, but the same email seemed to be
attachment-free when checked on my iPhone. Has anyone else found this
problem?

Yes I have the nest thermostat connected to the Google home mini.

I find that periodically during the day the temperature changes on its own. And
I have to up it back to 77.

Right.
I was talking about if someone started an event, and wanted it on a different
date ...
It is hard to cover all situations at once, but any method will do. I too tend
to start on the date where I want the event.

Well, actually, any more, it is easier to just tell Siri when I want the event
and the title and it is done.

Richard: if you go to the date on the calendar and then go in to put your event
in, does it not stay on that date? If you go in to another day, say the third
and you want the 20th, then you have to go through all the dates inside the
event part. This is at least what I found. Sometimes, The calendar will shift
and it causes me to have to find the date inside the event part, but most of
the time it stays right there. I think it’s something that I’m doing with my
swiping. However, I did it both ways, and I found that it stayed where it was
at on the day I was on and wanted.r

If you want 1:45 PM, use 0145 then flick right to PM and double tap.
If you want a different month, flick right to the month picker and like of old,
flick up or down to change months.
Then, flick right to the date. You then get to flick right through all of the
bloody date buttons and double tap the one you want.

I'm not a Shortcuts expert, so I downloaded the app to see what could be done.
When I tried using the Siri command to play CBC Listen, it said CBC Listen has
not added that to Siri.
Perhaps you need to contact the app developers and request that.
It shouldn't be difficult for them to do it.
I couldn't test the playlists at all since I am not in Canada.

I want to create a shortcut (or other macro), for an app which does not seem to
be supported by Shortcuts. Here is what I want to be able to do:
1. Open CBC Listen
2. Play one of their curated playlists, which is found on the 'Playlist"
tab.

CBC Listen doesn't seem to be on the list of apps in the shortcuts app, so I'm
looking for a way to record the exact gestures required to perform the above
task. Any help would be appreciated.

Creating a shortcut for an app not supported

2020-07-12 Thread Marcia Yale
I want to create a shortcut (or other macro), for an app which does not seem
to be supported by Shortcuts. Here is what I want to be able to do:
1. Open CBC Listen
2. Play one of their curated playlists, which is found on the 'Playlist"
tab.

CBC Listen doesn't seem to be on the list of apps in the shortcuts app, so
I'm looking for a way to record the exact gestures required to perform the
above task. Any help would be appreciated.

RE: Amazon Kindle books

2020-06-26 Thread Marcia Yale
What have you tried? The Kindle app on the iPhone is great, but not all books
are born accessible. If you are using a Kindle app and the book won’t read
properly it’s possibly because screen-reader access is not enabled. You should
check the website to determine if this is so.

Subject: Amazon Kindle books

Good morning,

I need some advice on the best and most effective way of reading Amazon Kindle
books. I need to read a particular book that is in Kindle. I don’t know if
it’s best to try on the computer with JAWS or on the iPhone. If so, what
programs or apps work best? I’ve not tried it with JAWS, and the Kindle app
reads some of the book, but I am having some issues navigating.

It’s my first day though.

Any good recommendations are appreciated.

Gmail issue using native IOS Mail

2020-06-08 Thread Marcia Yale
I just set up a new gmail account today, setting it up as imap. I added it
to Microsoft Outlook on my Windows PC and moved some messages into the inbox
from another account. All went well.

However, after adding it to my mail accounts on my iPhone, the inbox is
missing lots of messages which are showing up on my computer, and there's no
rhyme or reason I can figure out for why certain messages are showing up and
others aren't. Any help would be much appreciated.

I finally located the track position slider—by accident—and the problem is that

I just re-installed the Apple Podcast app to check out any changes.

It has better speed controls.

There isn't a slider in the mini-player that appears at the bottom of the

the full screen player will open and it does contain a slider as well as fast

Hi,

I was looking at the memory usage of my iphone 8 last night and noticed that I
have used 60gb of my 64 gb.

Looking at the apps I see that overcast has used 20gb and audible has used 17gb.

How do I reduce the space used by these two apps?

I tried deleting books from audible, but that doesn't seem to help, and as yet
I haven't figured out how to delete downloaded podcasts from overcast.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Does anyone have experience with iExplorer?

2019-11-10 Thread Marcia Yale
I have a bunch of podcasts saved on my iPhone and was told that iExplorer
would give me access to the files so I could move them to, say, either

it and the only information I can get from it comes from the menus. If
anyone has successfully used it, I'd be grateful for assistance. On the
other hand, if you know of another program which would give me access to
items such as podcasts or books stored on my phone I'd really appreciate the
information. I have tried iExplorer on both my Mac and my PC with the same
negative results.

iPhone freezing when adding a custom pronunciation

2019-10-26 Thread Marcia Yale
I am running 13.1.3 on my iPhone SE and discovered that VoiceOver hung up
when I tried to add a custom pronunciation today. Has anyone tried this
lately?

RE: Braille Grade 2 seems to have disappeared in IOS13

2019-09-29 Thread Marcia Yale
Okay, Richard, not sure what actually fixed this! I cleared the RAM, but then
checked again and US English was still dimmed. However, after checking, I was
messing with the Rotor and Braille Tables was suddenly there and I was able to
move to US English and, of course, now I’m back to my old Grade 2! Again, thank
you for whatever part of your email actually worked!

That is very strange.

Try clearing the RAM.

Hold down on the power button until you hear power off.

Do not power off, instead, release the power button, and hold the home button,
or side switch, until you are back on the home screen.

Then check again.

Also, is the braille table in the rotor?

You should be able to turn to braille table and switch tables, once you get it
working.

Workaround: just disable hi siri and enable it again and the problem should be
solved.

You can use iTunes, I have posted the instructions for this many times on here,
search the archives for "Creating ringtones from songs", this describes the

Unless it's changed, the group setting in the stock contacts app let's you
choose whether to display your local contacts, your contacts from Facebook,
your contacts from Gmail and so on. It isn't a way to create your own groups.
Last I knew, you needed a third party app to do this.

RE: Voice Dream Reader no longer linking with my Dropbox

2017-11-19 Thread Marcia Yale
And another friend suggested I try using the Files app to get to my files, and
that took me into Dropbox, so go figure!

Subject: RE: Voice Dream Reader no longer linking with my Dropbox

Oddly enough, I have been getting that issue for the last two or three versions
of Voice Dream Reader. I am using a 6S+ iPhone so this may not apply depending
on what device you are using. However, after trying many times to connect to
Dropbox, and getting an error message, I discovered that if I tap the back
button after clearing the error message it throws me into my dropbox instead of
giving me the error message again. For example, I tap add. Then I see my
various options such as bookshare and dropbox. I tap on dropbox and I get the
error cannot connect to dropbox. I tap ok. Then I tap on back in the upper left
corner and it throws me into dropbox anyway.

Hope that helps.

Voice Dream Reader no longer linking with my Dropbox

2017-11-19 Thread Marcia Yale
Within the past week, I can no longer add files to Voice Dream from my
Dropbox. I have tried several times to unlink and re-link Voice Dream with
Dropbox but still get the error: "failed to link to Dropbox, or something to
that effect. I have uninstalled and reinstalled both Voice Dream Reader and
Dropbox, as suggested by Voice Dream's support person, but no luck. Has
anyone had this problem before and, if so, do you have a solution?

I've tried that--no go. Every time I try the gesture an app opens.

I figured out after writing that message I can go to the last app in the doc on
the home screen, page 2, and start editing with the double tap and hold.
I thought I had tried that earlier, but that was under the beta.

Hi Marcia,

Just a little thing, but first of all, do you use a screen protector or a case
like the Otterbox Defender which covers the screen? Secondly, have you cleaned
your screen lately? I know all sorts of weird things can happen when the screen
gets dirty.

strange thing is that I can get the gesture to work to invoke a share page, but
not to get into editing mode. I just wish they would have left the other mode

As was also pointed out by someone else, you have to have a light touch on
the double tap. If you do it too hard, you envoke the 3D touch response. It
took me a few tries to get the hang of it.

I think the best part of htis app is the instant text reading function. I also
like the bar code function because it lets you know when you're getting close.
But the photos piece is buggy still and none of my friends are going to
cooperate with having their face uploaded. But the text functions is totally

RE: Transitioning from Spotify to Apple Music

2017-05-17 Thread Marcia Yale
Apple Music resides in your Library once you decide you want to keep it. The
menu will have "Add to Library" as one of the options, and once added to your
library, you can then decide if you want to download it to your device or just
leave it in the cloud.

Subject: Transitioning from Spotify to Apple Music

Sadly I'm going to have to stick with AppleMusic instead of Spotify with which
I was getting excited and very familiar with because of circumstances that so
as to save space, I won't go into, but anyway I'm wanting to know of within the
iPhone app of course, what spotify functions equal in Apple Music to the tasks
or function of adding items to Favorites?

I have a playlist I want to have as a Favorite; you know how in Spotify you can
add it to your Favorites? OK does Apple Music have a similar function? Where in
Apple Music are your favorite Playlists, albums and other content? I see 5 tabs
which are For me, Explore, Search, Library.
I go into the More option in the playlist I'm wanting to favorite, but i can't
find anything like on Spotify where it says Add to playlist etc.

For now I think that's it, but if I can think of any in the next days, I'll ask
again, but at least the one mentioned if you could give tips/tricks, or if this
can't be done in Apple Music? so as to know what to expect from it if it's
different from Spotify or the same in some areas?

Looking for a Twitter app that respects chronology

2017-02-16 Thread Marcia Yale
Title says it all--I would like to know if there is an accessible app out
there that will show me tweets in the order in which they are sent, not in
some random order determined by a computer out there somewhere! I find the
randomness of the home screen on the native Twitter app frustrating, but
maybe I'm alone in that!

RE: Question about the iphone kindle app

2017-02-04 Thread Marcia Yale
I, too, was having no luck getting from the book sample I started reading back
to the main menu. However, I just finally discovered the Library item as a
flick down action from that menu button, though, so I’m getting somewhere! I
have also been wondering if I accidentally attached my Kindle to the .com
rather than the .ca. If so, how do I fix that and how do I figure it out?

Hello Melissa. The Kindle app approaches things somewhat differently than
iBOOKs. It can throw beginners off. Fortunately, it's quite consistent and
simple. If you're in a book, double-tap to reach what I've come to call the
internal book menu. You'll find a number of options which help you change the
view or use X ray if a book supports that. Once you find the options, flick
left and you'll find a menu button. Double-tap that and the larger main menu
will appear. The very first option on is is library which gets you to your list
of books. The Kndle approach overall is to minimise space taken by interface
lelements and maximise space for the book to be displayed. Very helpful for
sighted readers but a source of minor irritation for those of us without sight.

Another nifty set of options is exposed by double-tapping and holding after the
second tap. You can highlight words and do other things like share passages of
text and define words. In the library, you'll find options to switch from books
in the cloud to those on your device as well as sorting options if you look in
the bottom right corner. Hope that helps you navigate a bit easier. It's a
wonderful app once you get used to it and you can save a pile of money taking
advantage of Kindle book deals. I hate to see people get discouraged from
something I've gained so much pleasure from. Happy reading.

I’ve found it difficult to get that menu to pop up without the app opening
