I concluded that they did not have the particular track I was looking for.

I then looked for the song on Google which found it and gave me the artist too.

I then put the artist into Apple Music’s search and the track I wanted was
listed. So putting the title into the search did not yield the result I wanted
but using the artist as my search gave me the result I wanted.

So it would appear to me that Apple have some work to do on their search
algorithm.

Has any list member had a similar experience?

This should be fun. Here we go, and this is in no particular
order. Number one dice world, Number two a lot of the blindfold
games. Number three the Amazon app, number four prime video,
number five prime now. Number six voice dream, number seven
seeing a i. Number eight audible, number nine Bard mobile.
Number 10 YouTube. That was actually kind of hard, because I
know that some of you were going to mention some apps that I

Re: Passcode issues

2018-11-23 Thread Paul Mcgann

marie,

there are issues that tech could drive nerves out of us.

i suggest for you to go to apple store near your home and ask technician
to help you with face id. if it is getting too hard, the best thing ti
do is to use passcode to enter four or six numbers. i wouldn't waste
time struggling and frustrate myself out of it.

some people talked about face ids as they say about with/without false
teeth, wigs, make-up, scratches/cuts, and others. sheesh! they come out
with wild ideas why face ids are putting issues. some said they believe
face ids are based of face mood.

sincerely,

Hi Marie,

I’m sorry to hear about your problems with the face id.  I had the

me crazy!  Did you ever call Apple? If so, can I ask you what they
told you? Have you tried going back to the home screen when the face
id doesn’t work, and when it continuously asks for your passcode? I
now find when it asks me for my pass code, and if I swipe up from the
very bottom of the screen just a little until I feel the first
vibration, and lift my finger, I can then try the face id option
again, and the majority of the time it will unlock the phone.  I’ve
also noticed if I hold my phone up to my face with my left hand, the
phone will not unlock, but if I hold up the phone with my right hand,
I have a much better chance of unlocking the phone. Strange I know,
but it is what it is!  Smile!

Matter of fact, I also had a difficult time when I was setting up face
id myself, I was setting up the face id feature holding the phone in
my left hand, and VO kept telling me face id is not available on this
device, so I thought ok I’m going to try this for the fourth time, and
I used my right hand then, and sure enough, the face id feature was
accepted.  Who knows, but I must not be holding the phone directly in
front of my face when using my left hand.  Go figure.  Smile!  I would
like to know how your phone is now working though.

It seems to recognize the fingerprint fairly consistently but even so,
the constant need to use the finger print or the passcode is too
demanding. I no longer ever take the 6S out of the house so I have
turned the passcode off on that phone. But I recently got an IPhone X
and if not in decent light, the face ID does not work and it seems
that it requires a code or ID every time the screen locks and this is
ridiculous. If no one has any ideas, I will call accessibility
tomorrow and see what they might suggest.

In the past, as I remember it, you only needed to enter the passcode
when powering up or after around 40 minutes of inactivity. Now it
seems I have to enter the darn thing constantly. Is there any setting
that will reduce the need to enter the code so often? In the passcode
setting there is a section about when it is required and the one and
only option is “immediately”. why is that the only selection and is
there any way to change it?

Please help me with this before I lose my mind totally. LOL

Thanks,

Re: Screen recording with Voiceover

2018-11-04 Thread Paul Mcgann
just reminding you. a thought that sometimes devleopers and technicians
do put complications on siri and voiceover as they don't realize what
they are doing. we have to let apple know of the mix--up of siri and
voiceover as sometimes developers set up wrong way.

okay, just trying to be helpful. if you say i am wrong, that is fine.the
quote is you can see me but i can't see you...i can see you but you

no matter if you know something and i know something and we are

helps.

On 11/3/2018 11:19 PM, Sieghard Weitzel wrote:

Hello,

I was trying to do a screen recording today to show somebody how to do
something with Voiceover. Unfortunately I realized that now in iOS 12
there is no way I could think of to make such a screen recording which
includes what Voiceover is speaking. This used to be not easy in iOS
11, either, but it could be accomplished by using a Bluetooth or wired
external speaker. Now Voiceover is switched to the Earpiece of the
phone where even at full volume it can be barely heard and even though
with a Bluetooth speaker Voiceover was speaking loud and clear via the
Bluetooth speaker, nothing was picked up by the microphone. My own
voice could be heard as I was explaining my gestures, but nothing else.

I would really appreciate it if others who have newer phones than me
could test this to see if they get the same result. I have a 6S Plus
so if people with an iPhone 7, 8, XS or XR could do  some testing that
would be great. Please make sure you flick down on the Screen
Recording icon in Control Centre to Adjust controls and make sure the
microphone is turned on before starting. Then try it with just the
phone and see if Voiceover remains on the external speaker or switches
to the Earpiece and also try it with a Bluetooth speaker or wired
external speaker.

Below is a message I just wrote to Apple Accessibility regarding this.
If your findings match mine please also send a message and feel free
to use all or part of my message. Screen recordings which include
Voiceover speech can be really useful and they used to work. This way
if you encounter an app with unlabeled buttons or other elements which
are not spoken correctly by Voiceover you can easily make a demo and
send it to the developer to show them. OK, here now is my message:

Hello,

I'd like to point out what I consider a substantial bug with the
Screen Recording feature. If this is not considered a bug then I
think  it's a big feature omission which should be addressed
especially since it used to be different. Here is the problem:

If I, as a Voiceover user, start a screen recording with the
microphone enabled Voiceover disappears or, to be more exact, it is
banished to the earpiece where it can be barely heard.

Not only does this make it difficult for a blind user to navigate and
perform gestures on the phone, but it also means that only what I say
is recorded, whatever Voiceover speaks or does not speak is not
captured on the screen recording video.

As I said, this used to be different. When screen recording was first
introduced as a feature Voiceover continued to speak on the external
speaker and what was spoken was captured on the video. This allowed a
blind person to demonstrate accessibility issues in apps or iOS
itself. If, for example, certain buttons were only spoken as "button"
without a description as to their purpose I could have made a screen
recording to demonstrate this and then sent the recording to the
developer asking if the problem could be fixed in a future update.

In iOS 11 or at least the last time I used screen recording for this
purpose which I am pretty sure was in iOS 11, I could still accomplish
this by connecting to a Bluetooth speaker, the audio would remain on
the Bluetooth speaker and would be captured on the video. Today I
wanted to make a screen recording to show somebody how to do something
in an app and while Voiceover continued to speak via the Bluetooth
speaker, after I finished and played back the video I heard my own
voice as I was explaining the gestures I performed, but there was no
trace of Voiceover which really baffles me because all along Voiceover
could be heard loud and clear via the Bluetooth speaker.

How is it possible that my voice which is an external sound is
recorded, but Voiceover coming from the Bluetooth speaker, also an
external sound, was not picked up by the microphone?

I use an iPhone 6S Plus so after this didn't work with a Bluetooth
speaker I used a wired speaker and plugged it into the 3.5mm audio
jack of my iPhone. Once again Voiceover came from the speaker loud and
clear. I started the screen recording and made sure that microphone
was turned on. After I finished I played back the video only to find
that again I could be heard clearly but Voiceover could not be heard
at all.
