Re: Most Excellent Bluetooth Ear Buds Anyone?

2013-02-08 Thread PHILLIP TRACY
Even better is the Motorola S11 flex HD. The sound is deeper and richer than
the backbeat and because they flex they are very difficult to break. They are
more in the $100 price range but well worth it.
Also, they charge very fast, a full charge takes 1 hour but you can get 1 hour
listening time with a 5 minute charge, 2 for 10 and 3 for 15.

changing voice after jail break, revisited

2013-02-13 Thread Phillip Tracy
Hello. I tried several times to follow the directions that both Ben and Ben
provided in their email’s on Monday, but I was unable to succeed in changing
Samantha to Tom. My phone is jailbroken and Cydia is working. The open SSH is
also working well, but I can’t get the voice changed. I have access to the
entire iPhone but I need someone to contact me off list and walk me through
this with concise, to the letter instructions.
You can call me at 515-287-4390. If you think you can do it by email, that’s
fine too. My address is tracyp4...@msn.com
I am frustrated and discouraged, because both sets of instructions are
different, and I can’t get it right. The second set of instructions I
understand much better and I can come close to doing it, but the first set is
not understandable to me at all.

Thanks very much for any help.

Hello mouse and all. Thanks for mentioning this. Had I known this was piracy

The moderators of this list strongly discourage piracy and illegal behavior.
I have returned my device to the state it was in before trying the voice
change. I am sincerely sorry. A jail broken Samantha is better than nothing.

Re: Triple Click Home Default

2012-09-26 Thread PHILLIP TRACY
It truly is hit or miss. I tried to turn voiceover on before I left the store,
triple click home was not set. I had to ask the person in the store to turn it
on and set the triple click home feature. That was with the iPhone five, but
with the 4S, I was able to triple click home in the store, and voiceover came
on.

Re: Triple Click Home Default

2012-09-27 Thread PHILLIP TRACY
No sir, that was the first thing I attempted after being unsuccessful so I had
the store person verify that triple click home was indeed not set on this
iPhone 5.
I was truly shocked because it had not been touched, he handed it straight out
of the box to me while he left to get my otter box defender. All my Iowa iPhone
friends have also reported mixed results, all of them having had iPhones since
they started coming with VoiceOver.

Re: Aluminum versus Glass iPHone, Just a Comment

2012-10-01 Thread PHILLIP TRACY
I'm sorry to say, that my opinion is exact and completely opposite yours.
Everything you said about the 4S, I didn't like. I am extremely happy with the
new iPhone 5's design. I dropped my 4S all the time, and I have yet to drop
the five. I believe it's much lighter and much better design. It is not flimsy,
but very sturdy. I'm sorry you felt differently.

Re: overview of accessibility features in iOS 8

2014-09-13 Thread PHILLIP TRACY
I have been testing also, and I must agree wholeheartedly. It really is sad,
Apple is really slipping these days. we certainly don't need to be rude, but we
do need to be as forceful as possible. We need to be loud, and we need to draw
attention to the fact that these things are being ignored. I would almost be
willing to go so far as to say that Apple should apologize, and reaffirm their
commitment to the voiceover user. they may be approaching a very slippery
slope, and it would be in everyone's best interest to avoid such a fall off.

Re: iPad Air for sale, excellent condition

2014-09-19 Thread PHILLIP TRACY
hello, I hope this message is going to the right person. I would love to get my
wife and iPad air for Christmas. Would there be any way you could take payment
arrangements? I am on a very limited income. how much are you asking for the
iPad air? I'm sure I could make arrangements through PayPal for you. I would
really like to buy this if possible. Hopefully flexibility is okay with you. I
have been praying for an opportunity like this for a long time now. Go ahead
and email me back your terms, hopefully we can work something out. Got bless.

in order for touch ID to work, your lock screen must be active first. in other
words, before laying your finger on the home button, you must push the power

Many apple services still down

2015-03-11 Thread PHILLIP TRACY
Hi all. I just got off the phone with Apple technical support where I was
informed there is no available estimate as to when many iCloud, iTunes, app
store and many other apple online services would be restored. All we can do is
try to be patient, I guess I need to keep my apps upp a little better, I have
10 updates just waiting for Apple to come back online.

Re: help with battery gauge

2015-05-13 Thread PHILLIP TRACY
How long have you had the phone? After about 2 years of heavy use, the battery
starts to wear out and needs replaced. They are only good for about 400 to 500
full charge cycles before they start to lose life.

Re: Apple Watch won't speak

2016-03-13 Thread PHILLIP TRACY
I'm just guessing here, but here's what might have happened. Your watch may
have gone into power reserve mode. When this happens, you can do nothing with
it at all except visually display the time on the screen. Here's what I would
try to do.
Connect your watch to power for about 20 minutes just to make sure the unit
gets enough power to function for a few minutes. After charging for about 20
minutes, disconnect the power and simultaneously hold down the crown and
friends buttons for a full ten seconds, just like you would do with your iPhone
if you were resetting it because of acting up. After releasing the buttons wait
about 3 minutes for the watch to power cycle, it starts much slower than iPhone
so try to be somewhat patient, if after 5 minutes nothing happens, go into the
watch app on your phone and go to general, accessibility, voiceOver and make
sure it is on. Then make sure your sound volume is up all the way and make sure
VO volume is maxed as well. Once this is done, tap your watch and see if it
will speak. If not, you will need apple support, if so, make sure you never let
it go to power reserve mode again. The only way out of power reserve mode to
get VO speaking again is the hard reboot I described above.
Also, in the watch app under accessibility is the accessibility shortcut, just
like on iPhone. You can set it to toggle VO so that triple-clicking the crown
will turn VO on/off.
Hope that helps, let me know if it does.

Re: iPhone seven rumors

2015-12-07 Thread PHILLIP TRACY
Unfortunately, many will not care about needing the adapter and the extra cost
and all that. They'll just chalk it up to advancing technology, and for those
who feel that way, great! However, there are plenty of reasons to keep the
standard jack as is, go back and read Jonathan's blog entry posted a week or so
ago. For those who are hearing impaired on top of needing voiceover there are
real concerns here. Just take this thread back roughly a week or so and you'll
see exactly why.

IPhone 7 for sale, permission granted by list moderator

2017-03-27 Thread PHILLIP TRACY
Hello listers. First, a special thanks to Mark, our friendly moderator, for
granting me permission to post this to the list.

My name is Phillip, and I have an iPhone 7, 32 GB, and just for clarification,
it is not the larger phone, just the standard 4.7 inch iPhone 7. It is exactly
4 months old, actually purchased on November 23, 2016, it is running iOS
10.2.1, but I would be happy to update it to the latest OS, 10.3 if you like
before I ship it to you. The phone is black, and is in absolutely perfect
condition. As of the time of this post, I am unable to find the lightning to
3.5 MM adapter needed for wired headphone use, however I will contact Verizon
before shipping to see if I can replace it. For further information, including
price and/or any other questions please feel free to contact me at
tracyp4...@msn.com
If you would prefer a phone call, please email your name, phone number, and a
time best to reach you and I'll be happy to give you a call.
Thank you in advance,

Phillip Tracy

Re: Help with One Password

2018-03-24 Thread phillip tracy
Hi. Is there a tutorial detailing how this app works from a blind person's
perspective? If so, could someone please direct me there? If not, would someone
be willing to contact me off list to help me learn how to use and get the most
out of this app? I read all the documentation, but with severe ADHD, I'm afraid
I was unable to gain an understanding of how to use the app, and how it works.
I'm really looking forward to being able to change my passwords monthly and
never have to remember them again.

You can email me off list at tracyp4...@me.com<mailto:tracyp4...@me.com>.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Kim,

I just tried looking at my credit cards in 1password on both the iPhone X and

I am guessing that you are working with 1password on iOS? I would suggest
closing it out in the app switcher and reopening it to see if the problem
clears up. You also might restart your iOS device and see if that helps. It is
all working normally for me.

Re: iPhone X and first impressions...

2017-12-05 Thread phillip tracy
Hi Scott and all. I had an interesting and frustrating experience with FEDEX
that made me miss launch day with iPhone X, even though it was only a mile away
from me in a storage bin by 7 PM, I ended up having to go down and fight for it
because they weren't going to deliver it until Monday and it was a launch day
guarantee, I brought it home the afternoon after launch day, which was fine, it
made me a happy guy.

Here's what I think is happening here. The face ID appears to be on the right
side of the phone direct opposite the rear camera area. Here's a little known
fact, or trick, shall we say. After extensive research I found documentation
requiring you to be able to fully open your eyes to get the most reliable
experience with face ID, I am not able to fully open both eyes, left eye can
not open at all, and right eye opens, sometimes, but rarely can I get any kind
of consistency. For me, and for some of us, a moderate security compromise will
need to be made. Before you may be forced into that though, switch the phone to
your right hand, and unlock or double click the right side button with your
left index or middle finger. Hold the phone still directly in front of your
face about a foot. Make sure your phone is angled ever so slightly to where you
are directly facing the right half of the phone. If this does not work, you
will then need to take a nice little stroll over to settings, general,
accessibility, face ID, and turn off the feature that makes face ID require to
determine you're paying attention to the screen, it is the first of the two
attention features in there. If you are fully able to open your eyes, you
should not have to do this, but I have no choice.
Remember friends, there is another dirty little secret you should know about
that should still make you feel secure, it did for me. Take another happy
little venture on over to settings, emergency SOS, enable the 5 click power
button, or side button as we now call it, feature, do not, I stress again, do
not overlook the emergency auto call. It is also in there and you should turn
it off, that gives you the ability to disable face ID in a snap by rapidly
clicking the right side button 5 times, a most excellent feature if your enemy
is trying to force you to look at your phone to unlock it. The Apple folks
thought of every possible security situation, one of the reasons I love these
guys so, so much! Long live the future, this damn thing is a beautiful,
beautiful piece, mine's a silver 256 and for me, its perfect. Perfect! Woot
woot! It really is ok guys, it really is! Smaller than the plus, bigger than
the standard, not too bulky, great battery life if you properly manage the
settings, the perfect phone! I have wanted all these features since the 4S and
finally, they're here!

Hey folks, this may work even better for you, that's one hell of an awkward
angle. Try face ID with right hand only, left hand completely out of play
unless you actually are left handed, and if you are, they have an attachment
you can buy for maybe $15 or $20 that attaches to the bottom so you have better
left handed control. I actually found that holding the device in my right hand,
using my right thumb to press the side button gave me the best results.

Janet, before what you just said starts a firestorm, let me say this. Maybe you
didn't read about all the hype Apple put into claiming in iOS 11 about a
revamped, much smarter Siri. That is in their own words, not mine. If you
really wanted to get picky, you could say that was false advertising. Everybody
knows Siri is not human, and you're getting the wrong impression if we are
misleading you to believe that she is! The point is, we have seen Siri work
much better in the past. The term stupid is not necessarily referring to Siri
as a stupid person, instead, the term stupid is referring to the fact that much
of the added intelligence added to Siri, supposedly, is either not there at
all, or is not functioning if it is.
I would not go so far as to say the people that develop and program Siri are
stupid, but they have become careless, rushing to deliver a product to beat or
keep up with competition, but what good is it if it doesn't work as promised.
They should have considered delaying a little, they need to put more work in to
providing verification of received reported issues and higher priority into
fixing them, especially when it comes to accessibility.

Re: Best weather app in the US

2013-04-30 Thread PHILLIP TRACY
Although it is a bit expensive, weather alert USA is by far and away the best
in my opinion. I am an extreme weather freak, even to the point of driving
everyone who knows me crazy. Therefore you can rest assured I have tried just
about every weather app out there.
Weather alert USA is about $20, but provides detailed 7 day forecasts and
notes, as well as more than 120 different types of severe weather weather and
other hazardous alerts for any specified area or multiple states and/or
counties at once. The app is completely VO friendly and I figured out how to
set it up and use it just by taking time to play around with it. I don't have
things memorized but the ease of use is such that memorization is not
necessary, all settings are saved in iCloud backups so if you have to restore
everything is restored to how you had it set up before the most recent backup.

Maybe it is on sale? The developer is Softpeas LLC and the title is weather
alert USA. Once downloaded, it shows up as WX alert USA on the home screen.

Wow, that's terrible. I can't believe it went from totally accessible to
totally unusable. Wish I had some sort of Direct TV contact.

Sorry this is the case but do appreciate the heads up as I haven't updated
yet. I'm still on V2.5.2 of the app on both iPhone and iPad.

Re: Apple App Store & Refunds for inaccessible Apps

2013-09-11 Thread PHILLIP TRACY
I carefully read through this thread, I looking at one of the messages in
particular, there are only two ways you can get a refund for an app that is not
voiceover accessible. you cannot do it by calling Apple. You must contact them
online either through the report a problem link in iTunes purchase history or
by contacting iTunes customer support via the web. It does not say you can call
and get a refund. Maybe that's where the problem is? If you called them, they
will not issue one. You have to be specific in reporting the problem online
through one of those two avenues.

Hi Recardo, the method you outline does work, but the volume ratio between
Voiceover and the other sounds on the phone is way off.
In other words, the overall volume of the phone is increased, but by the
time you get to where Voiceover is at a comfortable volume for listening,
other sounds, such as sounds that voiceover makes, are jarringly loud.
Honest, when this happens, the volume of Voiceover cannot be increased above
35% in the rotor.

From what I have read on various forums, this is a known bug with the 5 S, I

don't know if it is with all 5S's, with no resolution except to reset all
settings to restore the correct Voiceover functionality,, which is quite
unreasonable in my view.
Thanks.

Hi,
I just bought a 5s this afternoon and have been setting it up. I got the
high-quality voice going, then started messing around with the rotor,
sound volume, VO volume and so on. I seem to have gotten things messed up
so that when I turn the rotor to volume, I can't get the VO volume past 35
percent. I powered down the phone and restarted it, but the problem still
persists. I remember seeing something about a similar issue a few days
back but don't recall what the solution is, if any. Any tips?

Thanks,

Tom

Re: Question, has anyone noticed, sendero lookaround...

2013-07-02 Thread PHILLIP TRACY
Let's not jump to conclusions just yet, it may be that the servers went down.
It could also be, that they have some type of overload now with both apps
going. Just speculating, but I can't imagine that they would have gotten rid of
look around. It's also possible that something broke on the look around server
when the Seeing Eye server was launched.

Re: where will you purchase the iPhone 5s

2013-09-16 Thread Phillip Tracy
Scott Van Gorp, another list member and close friend of mine, is going with
me to the verizon store and we will be waiting in line about 2 hours before
they open. We did the same last year for the 5, and all went smoothly.
This year, we are signing up for the new edge program verizon has which
allows a device upgrade as soon as 6 months or your other device is half
paid off. Yes, you are buying your device at full price, but over 24
months. If you want more info, please contact verizon, as I am not overly
familiar with the program. I will never have to worry about missing out on
the latest iPhone release again now that I will be on the edge program.

Subject: where will you purchase the iPhone 5s

Hi all. Just curious about what different people will do when it comes
time to purchasing the iPhone 5s. Oh, and before I go on, just a point
to note, the s in the name 5s is lower-case because if it's a capital S
it looks too much like the number 5 visually, so Apple made it a small s
on purpose. So, the correct way of writing it is iPhone 5s. Anyway,
since you cannot pre-order the 5s, will you go to your local phone
carrier store, or to the Apple store? I'm just curious as to whether
people will go this Friday and wait long lines like Black Friday in the
US, or if they will wait a few days until the lines get less.

I'm pretty excited myself because this will be my first time getting a
new phone the day it comes out. In the past I've gotten it when it was
an afterthought, or in the case of the 4s, when it had been out for
about 4 months already. usually I wait in case there are initial
problems found with the first batch of hardware, but this time around
I'm diving in with my eyes closed as the saying goes.

Although all members are welcome to respond, I'm hoping that only people
who are getting the 5s will respond to this thread since I'm not asking
about whether it's a good idea, or if the 4s is better, or if we should
stay with what we have. This is because there are other viphone threads
which have already covered this.

Cheers.

Re: closing out apps in the switcher

2013-09-18 Thread PHILLIP TRACY
there is yet another way to close apps that most people don't know about. Just
highlight the app you want to close, then three finger swipe up. You can do
that with all the apps. For finger tap to get to the bottom of the list of
apps, then three finger swipe up multiple times until all your apps are closed.
It is quick, easy, and awesome!

volume in the rotor. If you turn it too far down, you will not be able to turn

Online only subscriptions will not play sporting events. You have to have a
radio active, as well as an online subscription, in order to listen to sports
