I was enamored of their opera channel, and they sure won't let me get there anymore, somehow. but it's all right. iTunes is only 1 strand of my iPod radio. I paid to join calm radio on the PC which never did work for me, but it is wonderful for a blind user on the iPod; but expensive. Well, I think it is. But it has lots of sub-categories in the classical genre. Okay, this ramble has reached a conclusion. And I hope to hear about an inexpensive football source. I put one in, which was free, but the choices did not speak; it was a shame, for it started out speaking. There was an A section with the NFL teams whose names began with A; B for the B's, etc. After I had selected the Chicago Bears, there were 2 stations. Well, i picked the first one and it started playing hard-rock, for, of course, there was no game then. But I could hardly turn that off and get back out to the menu with the A B C's. So I just deleted the app. Isn't that the way to do it--if at first you don't succeed, give up? Grin. On 9/27/2013 11:39 PM, Ricardo Walker wrote: Hi, I don’t think there is a way. The only thing you can do and it may or may not help a bit is to go to Accessibility Settings and turn on Reduced Motion which is towards the bottom of the main accessibility settings screen. Some people reported it helps a bit. I would strongly encourage you to take the time and report this to accessibil...@apple.com since it is probably one of the more annoying bugs yet. I would also try and do a very precise swipe and then keep your hand well away from the screen for a bit longer than usual because what seems to be happening is that after you do the swipe you don't even have to quite touch the screen for the touch screen to sense your hand and somehow repeat the gesture. If you haven't turned on Reduced Motion yet, I suggest you remove all apps from the app switcher, then turn it on and then shut down your phone and reboot it after 30 or so seconds. Not sure if this will help, but I can guaranty it won't hurt. Re: Problems with the Facebook app
Hi All, I really don't recommend you upgrade to the latest version of facebook. The notifications are there but instead of being at the top, they are now at the bottom but vo won't read them at all. It is also running a lot slower with or without vo. I do hope that FB will be able to fix this problem soon as it would seem to me that with every upgrade they seem to be going backwards not forwards. It seems to be getting more complicated in my view. Re: ear pieces.
Hi, thanks a lot but having gone to the link which you suggested and reading what you had to say about it I think I will pass on those but thank you anyway. Its always good to hear what others think. You sound a little disappointed with yours. I just can't seem to find one that I am really comfortable with. I only have very small ears and most of these pieces don't fit me very well and plus! I don't like things that go inside my ears. Thank you though for taking the time. cheers. Sandra Braille Greeting Cards www.braille-greetings-cards.co.uk - Original Message - From: Raul A. Re: Aftershokz headphones.
Lisa, Thank you for your reply. Its just as I thought. I just thought I would just ask the question anyway. I think you are right in saying that about Bluetooth I would agree with you. I don't think I would want to mess about with two headsets well not at the same time anyway. So I guess I will just stick with my purchase and just use it for my trekker breeze. I won't go anywhere without it at the moment, I am having to use a long cane at the moment as I am still waiting for a new guide dog. Heaven knows when that is likely to be. sorry I know I have gone off track just a little. But thanks for your input. Sandra, as far as I know, the Trekker Breeze doesn't have the capability to send/receive any kind of Bluetooth signal unless you're talking about the older version that ran on a PDA, and in that case, I have no clue if the Aftershokx would work. I know you couldn't hear your phone and the Breeze at the same time unless you could pair them both and switch between them seamlessly, and let's face it, Bluetooth isn't that reliable enough of the time, at least not for me. You could use the wired version of the Aftershokz with your Breeze because they use a regular stereo headphone jack so fit into the breeze where the external speaker would go. Then you could use another Bluetooth headset with your phone along with your Aftershokx. You'd have to deal with two different headsets, though because I don't think you'd like having to wear both the Aftershokx Bluetooth headset and the wired Aftershokx headset because they both fit the same way, which is why I'd suggest a single earhook Bluetooth speaker for the phone portion of the set up. I have a Breeze and I use it still even with my iPhone because of the same issues. I can use the Bluetooth headset, but then I need to be listening for two different audio sources in addition to my surroundings, so I feel a bit limited as to when and where I can use them both safely. I had my Daughter take a look at the screen, just incase the button might have been moved to a newer location on the screen, I think lately, the App might have been updated and the Back button is no longer there. So, what I found does work, is to double tap on the Notification Heading and that shouldprompt you out of that screen and allow you access to the main screen again. Try this, it should work, I know I was stuck in that one screen myself, and it was a pain to get out. Hope this helps. Liking something sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. (I find this is true both on the phone and on my Mac.) 2. When I want to see who liked a post, sometimes it will show me, and other times it will go to the one page of the last person to like. There does not seem to be any rhyme or reason to this. 3. When I check my notifications, on the phone, there does not seem to be a back button; am I missing something? 4. Sometimes when I want to like on someone's page because of something shared, I can only like the shared link on its original page, not on my friend's page. 5. There are times when I click on a friend's page to read further something posted, and the app does nothing at all. 6. Sometimes I cannot get to the posted link, or read the comments. (I realize some people's privacy settings might not permit me to see their comments, but it is unlikely that this is true of all of the people on the larger sites I am referring to.) Any workarounds, explanations, and/or suggestions are greatly appreciated. Happy Father's Day to those to whom it applies. It does not stop my husband or one friend, unfortunately and I have near the end of a day when I am involved in a report I need to finish before I leave turned off the phone completely but I would rather not do that, I want a phone when I am at work, mostly to stay connected with my husband who has been a frequent flyer in the hospital. I don't want a lot of messages, beeps, and other sounds interrupting me during those hours. I could mess with do not disturb, I suppose but, it is easier not to do those accounts and to keep my e-mail on the phone to a minimum since I don't like typing on the keyboard all that much even after nearly two years, I can, of course, but would rather do most of my communicating on my computer. -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Lynda Neema Sent: Sunday, February 10, 2013 7:16 AM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: Re: Touch typing questions I tried both touch and standard too and found I like standard better also. Its unfortunate that the details are not provided in app store. This TapTapSee app seems to work by employing a type of crowd sourcing. In other words, when you take a picture it is actually human beings responding. This is how it knows it is a dog or man on the picture. This also may explain why only general descriptions of objects are provided such as black shoe, $20, yellow blouse, Lysol wipes, etc. I'm not certain yet that any sort of database of known objects is employed as might be the case with bar code scanners. Please try the following for best results: *use under good lighting conditions. (I believe most current update automatically turns on flash if it is needed.) *try to take one picture at a time and give enough time so the person on other side can send back their description *Try placing eye of camera at center of object or what will be the picture to be recognized. *If too proximal to object then back off and if too distal then bring camera a little closer. *Personal suggestion: try not to get too picture happy and snap pictures of rocks, sand, or other frivolous objects as those individuals out there recognizing objects might feel as though they are wasting their time describing meaningless things. Sorry if I insult anyone by changing the subject field its just that I thought I would change it to accurate reflect the topic of this thread. Hi Carol, Not sure what you mean? I haven't altered it in any way. All I know is that ever since I upgraded to the new IOS6 it just doesn't seem to work when being selected when that person rings me up on the phone it just goes to the one I have as a default setting. Re: Problem with rington.
Hi Cheryl, This is what happens, I go in to the contact, then I pick the ringtone that I wanted for that contact, then I save the contact. then when my contact rings me from his mobile it goes back to the default setting you know the ringtone that I have set for anyone else ringing. I go back in to the contact and it shows the assigned ringtone so I have no idea what to think. That's how it is Cheryl. Do you have any other ideas. Hi Scott, Thanks for that. Of course I will keep you posted and I am so glad that I am not cluttering up the list. I am a bit shy really of saying the wrong thing sometimes. I would say though with this app, you do have to think about it a bit, but voiceover does work quite nicely with it. Even though on some of the pages it doesn't have marked buttons you know when it says savings account button you just press savings account and it takes you there. Its well worth looking at. Alex, I think you will like it, you can even track where your train is in real time so it will tell you if its going to be late. It does run the battery down though but its a very useful app. Give it a go and see how you get on. Re: Navigon
Hi Mike, Navigon is OK to a point it is not as good as a trekker breeze. But it is very handy if you want to know where you are. Although it doesn't speak the names of streets as you are going along, but, you can put a postcode in and it will take you to your destination. Its not perfect by any means but its better than having nothing at all. Whether it will improve as time goes by who knows. Re: Navigon
Hello, I found this to be very useful thank you. Sandra Braille Greeting Cards www.braille-greetings-cards.co.uk - Original Message - From: Sieghard To: viphone@googlegroups.com Sent: Friday, June 15, 2012 5:38 AM Subject: Re: Navigon Hello John and others, Yes, Navigon can be used in Pedestrian mode. I agree with Raul, Navigon is a good app and works reasonably well with Voiceover, but it has a bit of a learning curve and I think most people who post on here that it's useless and is not Voiceover friendly just haven't taken the time to play around with it. Below is a bit of a write-up I sent to somebody else a while ago and maybe you find it useful, I am giving some examples which were relevant for that list member and I haven't changed them because it really doesn't matter which places I use as an example. Also, the descriptions of screens and settings I use are based on the latest version of Navigon. Before you give up on Navigon it really is important to understand the app. As somebody pointed out before, you can input a route by entering in an address or a POI which typically is a restaurant, gas station, store etc. If you want to enter an address you can’t enter the entire address at once, e.g. you can’t just type 1234 Washington Street into the edit field, it is a multi-step process where first you pick the Map (if you have several installed you may have to pick Florida etc.). Once that is done it asks you for the city. You live in Pensacola, so if you start typing “Pensa” Pensacola should show up in a list, the fewer letters you type the more options are on the list, for example, if you live somewhere where you have towns like Clifton, Clydsdale, Clearwater, Clearfield, Clearbrook, if you were to type “cl, all of these would be in the list, if you type “c l e”, only the 3 choices starting with “clear” show in the list and if you type “clearw” only Clearwater would be left. You can, at any time, check the list and double tap on the city you want if it is in the list. Once you do that the next screen comes up and this says “Street in Pensacola text field”, as long as you selected Pensacola as your city. If you keep flicking right you see a list of all streets in Pensacola sorted alphabetically. Double tap the edit field so you can start entering text and enter, in your case, “St” or “Star” and then make sure “Stark Avenue” or “Stark Ave” is listed and double tap to select it. Especially with streets it is important to pick from the list since you never know if the complete name is “Stark Ave”, “Stark Avenue” etc. In some towns you may have the same street name with a “W” or “E” at the end for “West” and “East”, but if you typed the name spelling out “West” it may not recognize it because it only wants “W”. Once you see your street on the list, double tap it and now you have the option to either enter a house number or cross street/intersection. VoiceOver announces “Text Field is Editing, Character Mode, No/Intersection in Stark Avenue”. Once again this is assuming you selected Stark Avenue and that your rotor setting is set to character, not word. If you flick right, you’ll find a list of intersections listed and if you double tap on one it would navigate to that intersection. Anyhow, enter your house number and press the “Done” button at the very bottom right of the onscreen keyboard. Now the very top left option will read like this: No. Back Button This means if you double tap here it will go back one screen back to where you can enter the number. Pressing back on that screen will go back to where you can enter/select the street name, back again will go to the city etc. If you flick right once you will have the “Start Navigation” button. Flick right once more and it will read you the full address with city, zip code etc. that you entered. Press “Start Navigation”, then flick right on the next screen, here you have your second “Start Navigation”. If you flick right again here (you would have to do this fairly quickly, it will give you one or more distances. These are the possible routes you can select. If you press “Start Navigation”, it will select whatever preference you have chosen, e.g. Shortest, Fastest, Scenic etc. This is somewhere in Settings and I typically have this set to “Shortest”. If you don’t do anything for maybe 10 seconds, it will start navigation automatically based on your preferences. Now start walking and it should start giving you voice announcements on where to turn etc. If you touch the screen at the very bottom just up from the Home Key (where you normally would touch to unlock your phone), it may say a street name and typically this is the name of whichever street you turn on at your first turn. Flick left once here and it will give you a distance and that is the distance to that turn, if you double tap the distance it repeats
