I have the loon call for my ringer. I think when I am in a store, people are
not sure were it is coming from.

Thanks Sieghard for the great loon sounds.

I carved out the three calls from the Bird Note recording.

I think the tremolo in particular would make a great alarm, who wouldn’t wake
up with that call coming out of nowhere, grin.

Hi Alan,

I also prefer using a credit card especially since here in Canada it is now
extremely rare that you can't simply tap the card or of course I can use Apple
Pay with my iPhone or Apple Watch, but I find having a bit of cash in my wallet
is still handy for certain things. One example is when I take a taxi, here in
our small town they now finally have meters, but those only apply when you take
a longer trip out of town, in town any trip is still $12 and I usually give the
driver a bit of a tip, if I want to do this with a card (and they only accept
debit cards at this point due to the much lower fees) I would have to ask the
driver to set it up with a $2 tip or 15% of whatever whereas it's really handy
to have a $10 bill and a couple of Toonies or a $10 and a $5 bill and ask him
for a Dollar change.

And for all you non-Canadians who probably have no idea what a "Toonie" is,
it's our nick name for a 2 Dollar coin. The word is made up from "Loonie" our 1
Dollar coin which was introduced to replace the 1 Dollar bill in 1987 and the
number 2.

The Loonie name comes from the picture of the Common Loon which is on one side
of the coin, this is a water bird which occurs regularly in every single
Canadian province and Territory, in fact, 95% of the world's Loon population
breed in Canada, it's also found in Alaska, northern Minnesota and New England.

The Loon is the provincial bird for the province of Ontario and while Canada
doesn't currently have a national bird, most Canadians think this should be the
one.

The call of the Loon is very distinct and has 3 main variations, Whale (almost
like a wolf howl), Laugh or Tremolo and Yodel.

Below are a few facts and then two links, one to an article (it doesn't have
the recording), and two more for different recordings of the Loon calls:

• chick can swim right away, but spends some time on the back of a parent to
rest, conserve heat, and avoid predators

• has many bones that are solid, rather than hollow like those of other birds,
which aid its diving ability

• can stay under water for up to 5 minutes and dive to depths of 60 to 70 m
(196 to 229 feet)

• may have to run as far as several hundred metres (800 to 1000 feet) on the
surface of the water on a calm day before gaining enough speed to take off

• Loons can live up to 30 years, longer than Canada Geese (24 years) and much
longer than ducks (10 years)

• Although no one is sure why, Common loons' eyes are bright red in the summer.
They then change colour in the fall, fading to a dull reddish brown, while

their striking black and white plumage fades to grey.

• Species include the most common and recognizable black and white Common Loon,
the Red-throated Loon, the Pacific Loon, the Arctic Loon and the Yellow-billed
Loon.

And back to the topic of money, our smallest bill is 5 Dollars and just as in
the US we also have a 10, 20, 50 and 100 Dollar bill, all of them are made from
a polymer plastic which is super tough, you can put it through the washer
without ill effect, and all bills are marked with 6-dot braille symbols which
ultimately can wear off as well, but it takes a really long time. A $5 bill has

No Longer Able to Activate Links in Amazon Security Alert Text Messages

2021-04-17 Thread Sharon Morton
Hello,

For whatever reason, and it's driving me crazy, I can no longer activate
links in security alert text messages from Amazon. Such messages get sent
when Amazon accounts are accessed from unknown devices, and/or when
sensitive account areas, E.G., change password, are accessed. Normally,
it's just a matter of double tapping the link after which a page appears
allowing one to approve or deny the request. On my iPhone SE2 running the
current version of iOS, double tapping such links does absolutely nothing.
I handed my iPhone to a partially sighted friend, who, after I turned off
VoiceOver, was able to activate the link for me.

Needless to say, I feel somewhat foolish having successfully used iOS with
voiceover for several years and now find myself with a very basic problem.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks and all the best

Sharon

Re: No Longer Able to Activate Links in Amazon Security Alert Text Messages

2021-04-19 Thread Sharon Morton
Hello,

Debby, thanks for such a positive and helpful response. Your suggestion to
use the rotor to find links and then flick to the link was a big part of
the solution. After doing that I ended up having to take it a bit further
by performing a one-finger triple tap (long press) on the link. I
then found and double tapped the Open Link button after which Safari opened
and presented me with the page on which I was able to allow access.

Thanks again and all the best

Sharon
