The iPod has a microphone and it seems to work very fine as I've already

Did the latest iPod Touch get Siri, or was that restricted to the iPad 3 and

microphone somewhere or it won't be able to perceive what we're saying.

You are indeed correct in say ing that the New Nano iPods do not have inline

it. The unit appears to be very responsibe. Still, I think that the extra
money, even for an iPod 16 GB, would be well spent.

Hello Listers,

I am just listening to the latest Today in iOS podcast. Since the iPod Touch
Fifth Gen is now shipping Rob mentioned that iFixIt.com of course did their
close examination of it's guts. Among other things they discovered that
unlike the iPhone 5 which has 1 Gig of RAM the iPod Touch continues to have
only 512 Mb along with the A5 processor which we already knew. They also
mentioned that the home button design apparently is not as good as that of
the iPhone 4S or 5, I guess we'll have to wait and see if iPod Touch users
will have issues with the home key over time.

Lastly, Rob said that apparently the ear pods that ship with the iPod Touch
have no microphone which is almost too weird to believe and, if so, I think
Apple should be ashamed to skimp on that just to save a couple of bucks
especially since the iPod Touch Fifth Gen has SIRI and Facetime. Maybe some
of those who received their iPod Touch Fifth Gen can confirm that although I
doubt IFixIt would get it wrong. In the end it's not a deal breaker, but it
basically means Apple not only maybe saves a few Dollars by designing the
ear pods without microphone but they also force people who plan to use their
iPod Touch a lot for Skype and so on to buy an extra set of ear pods; this
is almost bad enough so that I would buy a third party headset just in order
not to give Apple the extra $30.

Sieghard

Hello list,

So after a long time not getting around to it, I finally set a passcode on
my iPhone (4S).

Anyway, that wasn't the problem, but now of course, when I unlock my phone
and am prompted to enter in my four digit code, VO announces what I'm
typing. This kind of defeats the purpose. At home it's not an issue, but
when I'm out and about or around people whoever they may be, what's the
point since my code is announced to anyone keen enough to hear?

I know that Apple just couldn't have had VoiceOver say star, star, star,
star or asterisc, asterisc, asterisc, asterisc for every number we press
since we would then have no idea if we're pressing the right key combination
or not. My question is if there's in fact some other means to protect our
four digit code from being announced in a way where it's not broadcasted to
the four winds whenever we wish to unlock our device? I poke around the
settings and didn't find anything if there was anything at all. I guess
enabling a dial pad feature to recreate the tones when making a call could
be a solution, but those tones are so subtle, it really takes a trained ear
to differentiate them from one another.

Anyway, just thought I'd ask if anyone knows of a better solution.

Hello,

Now this is the current holly grail for an app that is accessible. There are
quite a few apps which will let you view MS Word format files. There are a
few which will let you edit such files. The only one I have found that is
even somewhat accessible is Pages. I find Pages to be decently accessible
when I use my braille display. Others have reported that Pages does not
track properly when there is more than one page of text in the document when
using a bluetooth QWERTY keyboard. I am unable to comment as I do not use
such a keyboard.

Again, with my braille display using cursor routing buttons, I am able to
properly edit even multi-paged documents with Pages.

I find that I use my iPHone with Windows 7, via Jaws ans Zoomtext, almost

Now I use my Mac everyday but I sync my iPHone and manipulate all files,
including those in the Cloud, on my Windows computer.

I strongly suggest that you not give up Windows, especially with the pending
release of windows 8 both on the PC and tablets, but, rather, add the Mac
with all its marvelously accessible features, to your proverbial toolbox.

With the release of Mountain Lion, I, once again, assert that Apple Mail is
superior to MS Outlook 2007, 2010, etc in terms of screen reader
accessibility.

I've been reading in several places now that the next iPhone will be

2.Yes, you can upgrade to iOS 5, but the phone is a bit sluggish with it.
Especially if you plan to use any of the higher quality voices.
 3. The more space an app takes up, and the more resources it uses,
 the

I concur with those saying there is no reason, other than a lack of
sluggishness in some cases, to upgrade to iOS 5. If all you want to do is
browse the web, read emails, and listen to msucic, it should be fine.
I've been reading in several places now that the next iPhone will be
released on September 21. Depending on your situation, it may be best to
wait another 2 months and get the iPhone 4, whihc will likely drop to the
price of the 3GS, if past experience is any indication.

 1. I think the touch screen is slightly less responsive, though I've
 only seen a 3gs running iOS 5.
2.Yes, you can upgrade to iOS 5, but the phone is a bit sluggish with it.
Especially if you plan to use any of the higher quality voices.
 3. The more space an app takes up, and the more resources it uses,
 the
 less
stable it will be. I've heard reports that Navigon, for example,
doesn't run so well. Neither does Blindsware. Perhaps someone with a
3gs, or who has used one more extensively can expand on this.
4.I didn't try the email app on the 3gs, but it's accessible with my

Do not expect such things. You have to understand that in order to make an
iPhone or any such device as small as it is, you have to integrate
components directly onto the board. In fact in many cases you will find
multiple components on one chip. I believe the opposite will be true and
devices will become less user serviceable. You simply cannot have small
devices that are serviceable by users or most technicians. And you also have
to understand that companies such as APple, Nokia, and so on make money on
the hardware more so than the software.

Hello Syed,

iDevices like iPhones, iPads or iPod Touches are not designed to be upgraded
in any way. Apple can of course do some basic repairs like fix a broken
touch screen or replace a battery, but you can't make an iPhone 4 into a 4S
or an iPad 2 WiFi into a new iPad 4G. The same goes for Airport Wireless
devices or the Apple TV. You can't really compare these kind of mobile
devices with computers and it's not as if Apple does anything out of the
ordinary here, I have never heard of an upgradable smart phone except maybe
for those that have a Micro SD Card slot where you could of course replace a
smaller Micro SD card with a larger one.

Hello there. Just a slight correction to Daniels message that you cannot use
the keyboard. In fact you can, all you have to do is have which ever
keyboard you want pared your iPhone. You also need apples remote app. If you
have your keyboard on and you launch the app, when you come to a keyboard
area in the AppleTV, you can use your Apple keyboard to type in stuff. Note
that when I say Apple keyboard, I am referring to which ever keyboard you
have paired with your iPhone. I am not talking about the specific Apple
keyboard itself. I have used the stowaway keyboard, the our IAI keyboard,
and a few others.

With fleksy, all you have to do is to approximately hit the netter,
somewhere close. With a standard keyboard, you have to hit the exact letter.
You can also do this with fleksy in case you need to enter a word which is
not in the dictionary.
I have increased my typing speed probably two or three times using this app.

 Hi Ricardo,

I don't think that could happen quite yet as there are just a
few shortcomings yet to be improved. For example; just now I tried to type
super dooper but could not input dooper as it wasn't recognised as a
real word. As I, for one, love to use words of my own devising, i could get
too frustrated if my only and default method of input were to insist that
all my words be recognisable. At the moment, I think this is a fabulous tool
for fast, accurate, and intuitive typing and i would love to see it, rather
like the dictation option on the 4s, as an option alongside the default
keyboard, but do need to keep the old method available.

However, placing the app in the doc means that I can use it
after just one click of the home button, once in the app I have the option
to email, message and copy, to name just a few. I have tried them all and
all work well! plus, having chosen copy, I found it easy to adjust and

port on the iPhone. The iPhone has a docking port which is a 30 pin
connector port. It does not have a USB connection. If there is such a
converter from a 30 pin to a standard USB female, then I need to be
educated. As far as I know there is no types of connections which will work
other than Bluetooth.

How do you rate the depth of accessibility in office application with regard

accessible or fully accessible)

(Please keep in mind that These are just a few items I'm looking at, but
feel free to bring in your views on any other relevant ones that you feel
worth mentioning here.)

. Text attribute - font, colour, borders, shading, background,
superscript, subscript, and so on.

. Page layout - headers, footers, cover page templet, page breaks,

. Text layout - paragraph, bullets, numbers, line spacing, tables

Hi,

Ditch the N86 buy the iPhone 4, even though the iPad will be faster.

To answer your questions:

iPads don't have USB ports, so no, you can't directly connect a USB device.
Best root to go if you want internet and you don't have wifi would be to
create a hotspot on your phone.
You can buy a doc to HDMI adaptor from Apple that will let your iPad connect
to a TV, haven't tried iPhone 4 unfortunately. Also, iPhone 4 is a4 not a5.

Cheers,
Ben.

model when I already have an i phone. We have wifi in lots of places
here in Canada, so finding wifi spots isn't hard if I do take it with
me when I go out. I use it when I want the larger screen space.
Some apps seem to work better on the i pad and I just find moving

investigated all the options for making calls with apps on the i pad,
but I have skype on both devices, for example. If you have a bit of

RE: Hi guys

2012-06-29 Thread SYED IMRAN
There was news somewhere that Siri will be included in all the phones from
iPhone 3GS onwards in iOS 6?

Subject: Hi guys

Hey guys. Some of you may know me from the Mac Visionaries list. To everyone
else that isn't subscribed to it, nice meeting you all. I just got my Iphone
4 in January and like it. Still kicking myself for not waiting until I could
get a 4S because it wasn't in stores. Yeah, I could've ordered it, but I've
had the hassle of ordering my other phone which was a Nokia Talks phone.
Also, I didn't like the service that Rogers gave to me, so I switched to
MTS. Anyway, getting back on topic here, like my phone but wish it were the
4S. I like being able to talk to my phone like you can with Siri. I hope
that some day they'll release it for us people using the 4. I have an app
called Voice Answer, which pretty much does the same thing as Siri, but she
reads your texts out to you before you send them. The only thing I don't
like about the App is when I say that I want to text my friend Sharlene, it
doesn't recognize the name. Anyway, I hope I can contribute to this list.

RE: eyenote

2012-06-29 Thread SYED IMRAN
Does the app recognise other currencies like Indian Rupee (INR)?

The camera that these kind of apps use is the one on the back of the phone.
If the phone is facing you, with the home button on the bottom, touch the
status area of the top right corner of the screen where you hear the battery
level.
The camera is on the backside of the phone, just a little above that spot.
You should feel a little hole, or a larger hole if you have the phone in a
case.

Should I hold the bill above the phone? Where exactly is the camera on the
phone?
