Since the iPod Touch Fifth Gen is now shipping Rob mentioned that iFixIt.com of course did their close examination of it's guts. Among other things they discovered that unlike the iPhone 5 which has 1 Gig of RAM the iPod Touch continues to have only 512 Mb along with the A5 processor which we already knew. They also mentioned that the home button design apparently is not as good as that of the iPhone 4S or 5, I guess we'll have to wait and see if iPod Touch users will have issues with the home key over time. Lastly, Rob said that apparently the ear pods that ship with the iPod Touch have no microphone which is almost too weird to believe and, if so, I think Apple should be ashamed to skimp on that just to save a couple of bucks especially since the iPod Touch Fifth Gen has SIRI and Facetime. Maybe some of those who received their iPod Touch Fifth Gen can confirm that although I doubt IFixIt would get it wrong. In the end it's not a deal breaker, but it basically means Apple not only maybe saves a few Dollars by designing the ear pods without microphone but they also force people who plan to use their iPod Touch a lot for Skype and so on to buy an extra set of ear pods; this is almost bad enough so that I would buy a third party headset just in order not to give Apple the extra $30. RE: iPhone Passcode query
How about putting on your earphones when you enter the password. If apple decides, probably they could route all the passwords through the internal speakers. If not apple, May be the app developers could take it up. From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Cristobal Sent: 23 September 2012 05:28 To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: iPhone Passcode query Hello list, So after a long time not getting around to it, I finally set a passcode on my iPhone (4S). Anyway, that wasn't the problem, but now of course, when I unlock my phone and am prompted to enter in my four digit code, VO announces what I'm typing. This kind of defeats the purpose. At home it's not an issue, but when I'm out and about or around people whoever they may be, what's the point since my code is announced to anyone keen enough to hear? I know that Apple just couldn't have had VoiceOver say star, star, star, star or asterisc, asterisc, asterisc, asterisc for every number we press since we would then have no idea if we're pressing the right key combination or not. My question is if there's in fact some other means to protect our four digit code from being announced in a way where it's not broadcasted to the four winds whenever we wish to unlock our device? I poke around the settings and didn't find anything if there was anything at all. I guess enabling a dial pad feature to recreate the tones when making a call could be a solution, but those tones are so subtle, it really takes a trained ear to differentiate them from one another. Anyway, just thought I'd ask if anyone knows of a better solution. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the VIPhone Google Group. The only one I have found that is even somewhat accessible is Pages. I find Pages to be decently accessible when I use my braille display. Others have reported that Pages does not track properly when there is more than one page of text in the document when using a bluetooth QWERTY keyboard. Now I use my Mac everyday but I sync my iPHone and manipulate all files, including those in the Cloud, on my Windows computer. I strongly suggest that you not give up Windows, especially with the pending release of windows 8 both on the PC and tablets, but, rather, add the Mac with all its marvelously accessible features, to your proverbial toolbox. For example; just now I tried to type super dooper but could not input dooper as it wasn't recognised as a real word. As I, for one, love to use words of my own devising, i could get too frustrated if my only and default method of input were to insist that all my words be recognisable. At the moment, I think this is a fabulous tool for fast, accurate, and intuitive typing and i would love to see it, rather like the dictation option on the 4s, as an option alongside the default keyboard, but do need to keep the old method available. However, placing the app in the doc means that I can use it after just one click of the home button, once in the app I have the option to email, message and copy, to name just a few. I have tried them all and all work well! plus, having chosen copy, I found it easy to adjust and correct my text before sending it. In this way, one could overcome the odd shortcoming. Go for it! You can buy a doc to HDMI adaptor from Apple that will let your iPad connect to a TV, haven't tried iPhone 4 unfortunately. Also, iPhone 4 is a4 not a5. Cheers, Ben. I also have lots of neat and cool apps on there. My i pad is only the wifi model. I just couldn't justify having the wifi/3g model when I already have an i phone. We have wifi in lots of places here in Canada, so finding wifi spots isn't hard if I do take it with me when I go out. I use it when I want the larger screen space. Some apps seem to work better on the i pad and I just find moving around on the screen a bit easier since it's larger. I haven't investigated all the options for making calls with apps on the i pad, but I have skype on both devices, for example. If you have a bit of remaining vision, you might like the i pad. Heck, I'm a total, and I still like it, but I wouldn't get rid of my i phone, either. hth a little bit.
