A somewhat serious iPhone bug...any solutions?
I was on the american airlines app, but i've seen this behavior across a few websites and apps. The bug relates to the picker item, to select a credit card type, or a state, Etc. In previous IOS versions, you could go through the items, looking at the options, then only if you double tap on the item, the selection is made. In this most recent version, you don't seem to have an opportunity to look at the options... you flick up or down, and it make that selection, and kicks you out of the picker...has anyone else had this problem, and does anyone have a solution? RE: A somewhat serious iPhone bug...any solutions?
Try this. Flick to the picker on the page. Double-tap it. Double-tap and hold on the second tap. After you hear the ascending tones, slide your finger up the screen slowly. As you do this you will hear quiet clicking. The clicking is the selection changing. If you want to read the selected item in the picker, flick left or right, then back. If it is not the correct item, double-tap and hold on the second again and follow the sliding trick again. Keep in mind that when you double-tap and hold, you may want to do it near the bottom of the screen so you have room to slide up. Re: Item Picker/Chooser was A somewhat serious iPhone bug...any solutions?
This is often the case when a webpage needs to change to accommodate the change in the picker. For example, when viewing my transactions for my Visa card on my website, the combo box, or what the iPhone documentation commonly refers to as the item picker or chooser, is changed to reflect the statement date I wish to look at, the information in the table below the item chooser is changed, so I have to always press the alt+down arrow keys to open up the combo box, select the item I wish to select, then close the combo box with alt+up arrow. I don't think the iPhone has a similar command, and so what often happens is that you just have to keep returning to the item chooser to make the change. In your particular case, credit cards have different information that must be input for a transaction to occur, and so the credit card form must accommodate the change in credit card choice. Usually though, I find that, like you, the item doesn't actually take effect until I swipe to the left and double tap the done button, or double tap the selection, so, this could in fact be a webpage error in the code, or the iPhone is not handling the item chooser correctly. Which ever the case, like I said before, I don't think there's a gesture or fix for this. Re: A somewhat serious iPhone bug...any solutions?
This is something that has been bothering me too recently. However, I am inclined to agree with Victor, I believe it is not a bug within iOS, but actually to do with how the websites themselves are set up. I do not find this is a problem on every web page and in every picker circumstance. It may be worth reporting, but from past experience, I suspect Apple will say that it is down to the webpage designer themselves to ensure the picker doesn't activate on each click. I also think that The second message in this list summed up the solution perfectly. This is exactly what needs to be done, it's maybe irritating, and in the situation where there are lots of picker items, it can be quite time-consuming, but it works better than if it self selects each time, Which as you said, it often does just with a swipe up.
