Re: App that allows editing of Word documents.
You know if Pages etc. are that important to you, I would strongly suggest you write to Apple if you have not done so. YOu can send a message to accessibil...@apple.com post feedback via the iTunes store, or use the feedback mechanisms APple provides on their website. I have send my issues along, but the more the better. Obviously there is always an issue of resources and priorities. The challenge is balancing the needs/wants and resources. No question that accessibility is important, but… On Aug 24, 2012, at 10:54 AM, SYED IMRAN wrote: > Accessibility of office applications is one of the very things holding me > from buying an apple device at the moment. > When the mini iPad comes in with iOS 6, that’ll be the first thing I’m going > to check out. > > From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf > OfRichard Turner > Sent: 24 August 2012 19:36 > To: viphone@googlegroups.com > Subject: RE: App that allows editing of Word documents. > > The renaming and the fact that Pages still doesn't allow one to organize > files in folders are two of the main reasons I avoid using it. > I truly do not understand why Apple has not improved pages for accessibility > and added folders. Hi, I tried Documents2 a few months ago, but I was unable to bring focus to the text of any document, whether I had written it or it was created by another program. I could start typing a document, but once focus was elsewhere, I couldn't get it back. Frustrating, as it looked interesting. Yes I do find that strange despite Apple being at the core of Accessibility, no pung intended smile. I use Textedit myself. That's because I do not need to do serious office work. Even if I do in the future I have my Windows laptop handy or I could look into virtualization or bootcamp. But I recognize this is not a one size fits all solution. Sent from my Windows laptop. Accessibility of office applications is one of the very things holding me from buying an apple device at the moment. Has anyone tried Documents 2? Sad to hear that its not quick, but anything is better than nothing. I have a Bluetooth keyboard so that should work with this app. Thanks for the information. Hi I'm so happy to hear that you can readmit-page with your display. Could you tell me how you navigate form page to page? Thanks loads. Hello, Now this is the current holly grail for an app that is accessible. There are quite a few apps which will let you view MS Word format files. There are a few which will let you edit such files. The only one I have found that is even somewhat accessible is Pages. I find Pages to be decently accessible when I use my braille display. Others have reported that Pages does not track properly when there is more than one page of text in the document when using a bluetooth QWERTY keyboard. I am unable to comment as I do not use such a keyboard. Again, with my braille display using cursor routing buttons, I am able to properly edit even multi-paged documents with Pages.
