In my case, I had no choise. I enjoy very much reading the Stagecoach series
by Hank Mitchum. The only way I could read three of these books was to back
translate three of these books from NLS that were in the brf format.

When I bought the app, it did say that it would work with bard books. That's
all I know. That's the reason why I got the app. Now, I can't get any help, and
I paid $14.95 Plus tax, for this app, and now it doesn't work. And Apple won't
give me back the money, and I understand, I've had over 30 days, but I can't
get any response from the creator. It says it still and other app stores, just
not in the US App Store.
I'm on a fixed income, so I was excited to be able to have this app. I bought
this app in the summer, so it's not that old. Oh well, I guess I'll just have
to forget about it. If someone can help me, that would be great. Sorry that I
rented.

Exactly. But at this point, nothing will do that on the iDevices.
Since Bookshare has about 5 times as many titles as BARD, perhaps when someone
wants to listen to a file that was designed for braille and they want to use
their iDevice, they could get that same book from bookshare.
That was all I was trying to point out.

Just to be clear, BARD braille books are not and never have been designed to be
read by anything but a braille display. In fact, when using a braille display,
you have to set it to uncontracted braille because if you try and use
contracted braille it is attempting to contract things that are already
contracted. To have a device read one of their brf files, it would have to be
set to read computer code out loud, since, for example, the symbol for "t h e"
is an exclamation mark, 'it would have to know that when it comes across an
exclamation mark to speak that as those letters instead of treating it as a
punctuation mark.

  Kathy,
I haven't used it much, but you basically have to move your BARD Braille
files into Dropbox and export it from there into Voicebraille reader. Then
in Voicebraille you need to turn voiceover off once you press the sxpeak
button to begin reading. It's not fancy or perfect but does work and isn't
difficult once you get the hang of it. Let me know if you need more help.
For Tim, I think I got to it from the Appleviz site but it was a bit
tricky to find so maybe a Google search? Of course, it may be removed,

Anna, I've looked in the app store. Unless, it's either IPad specific,
and I can't find it on my phone, it looks like that is no longer there.
Thanks for the pointer though. I'm on the lookout for one if something

Here is a link to an article about the Voice Braille Reader, but I am doubtful
it is available at this point, but check it out;

http://www.afb.org/forum/technology-talk/introducing-voice-braille-reader-to-ios-users/12

It is not on the AppleVis Hall of Fame site, which is where a Google Search
also took me.

Re: Braille to speech apps?

2016-12-08 Thread Russ Kiehne
Perhaps we should ask the developer of voice dream reader if the option to
read brf files could be added?

Anna, I've looked in the app store. Unless, it's either IPad specific, and I
can't find it on my phone, it looks like that is no longer there. Thanks for
the pointer though. I'm on the lookout for one if something comes along, I
find myself using Voice Dream Reader, Kindle, Ibooks, and Bard a lot more
than remembering to grab my Lictor most days. Lol. Thanks for letting me
know though. Take care and talk to you soon.

Re: Braille to speech apps?

2016-12-07 Thread Woody Anna Dresner
Hi Tim,

I was going to send you a link to the app, but I got a message saying it's not
available to share. It was quite expensive; I'll bet not enough people bought
it. It's a shame, though, as an app like that is needed.

Best,
Anna
