I'm not sure what you're asking about, but yes it will. If you're
talking Gmail, it'll be even easier since Gmail and using your Google
account is pretty much the default on an Android device.

You don't need to do anything on the web or at Gmail. You just need to go into
Settings -> Mail, Calendars, Contacts on your phone. Select your Gmail account
and then just make sure Contacts is on. It'll use CardDav and sync your Google
Contacts in the cloud with your addresses in your Google account on your phone.

Thanks for the information I've just looked for CardDav in the App Store and

2016-07-22 Thread Christopher Chaltain
When your using iTunes to sync between your Outlook on your computer and
your iPhone then you're just syncing with the local contacts on your
iPhone. There are a few things you can do.

On your iPhone, you can just make sure the contacts option is checked in
the settings for your Gmail account. This will create a separate address
book on your phone that will be in sync with your Google Contacts. This
will be separate from the local address book on your phone. Through the
contacts app you can use either or both address books, All of your
addresses will be presented in one list, so if you have the same account
in Outlook and Google then you'll see it twice on your iPhone, if you
have both address books checked.

Syncing between your iPhone and Outlook and syncing between your iPhone
and Google will just update their own address books, so you won't be
clobbering anything. The only problem you'll have is that you might have
some duplicate entries.

I hope this makes sense so far.

What you can do, which is what I do, except I don't use Outlook, is just
put all of your contacts in one place, such as Google Contacts. In this
case, you'd have to use something on your PC to synch your Outlook
contacts with Google and then keep them in sync. On your phone then, you
would just stop using the local addresses and just use your Google
Contacts. Like I said, this is what I do, but I use Thunderbird instead
of Outlook and I have a plug in in Thunderbird that syncs my contacts
between Thunderbird and Google Contacts. In this way, I just enter a
contact in one place and it shows up everywhere.

Outlook and my iPhone.

The link provided in the history below had excellent details but
mentions that you just need to have a paid Google account. I don't have
a paid Google account but just a free one that I got years ago when
setting up my Gmail account. Will I still be able to set up this sync
between my iPhone and my Google account? As I continue to input new
contacts mainly on my PC in Outlook 2010 and sync them with my iPhone
using iTunes, will they automatically sync with my Google account or
will I have to take some action to continually sync them?

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

2016-07-22 Thread Christopher Chaltain
Right, CardDav is a protocol and not an app. It allows you to sync your
contacts between your phone and a contact server that supports CardDav.
The Mail app in IOS already uses CardDav to sync Google Contacts. You
don't need to set up a separate CardDav account. You just need to check
the contacts box when you set up your Gmail account on your iPhone. It
says the following in the URL that was provided earlier:

Under the hood, Apple is using the open standard IMAP, CalDAV, and
CardDAV services to handle syncing Google services;

You shouldn't have to provide any server information. The Mail app will
already know all of that when you set up your Google account. You'll
just need your log in information for Gmail.

Hi all

Thanks for the information I've just looked for CardDav in the App Store and
it's not there. The only one remotely similar is something called All Sync 2.
Any ideas? Has anyone heard of this app?

No I just used my email address and password and for the server i just put
ws102.contacts.gq1.yahoo.com
For you I don't know when it's going to be since you using Google or your
iCloud so it would have to find that information out.

2016-07-22 Thread 'Eleanor Roberts' via VIPhone
Hi all

Thanks for the information I've just looked for CardDav in the App Store and
it's not there. The only one remotely similar is something called All Sync 2.
Any ideas? Has anyone heard of this app?

2016-07-22 Thread 'Eleanor Roberts' via VIPhone
This all sounds really good. So is this CardDav something you have to get from
the App Store?, or is it already available on my phone or IPad? Is there any
chance you could e-mail across some full/idiot-proof instructions so I can get
it set up to sync everything to Google Contacts? Also, what would be the
equivalent that I'd need for Android?, as I have an Android tablet too.

Many thanks for all your help with this.

2016-07-22 Thread Christopher Chaltain
Sorry, I didn't read the whole thread closely enough. Using CardDav,
which like I said is now part of the Mail apps Gmail support, will sync
your contacts between your Gmail account on your phone and Google
Contacts in the cloud. It won't sync between iCloud and Google Contacts.
I just keep all of my contacts in Google Contacts and then point all of
my devices to it, IOS, Linux, Android, Windows, and everything is all
synced with Google Contacts. I don't use contacts in iCloud at all.

Re: Can anyone tell me how I can makes sure that all my contacts are properly synced between my ICloud and Gmail accounts please?

The way I did this was so easy and simple and works well. Go into
settings and where it says contacts, mail accounts. Choose to set up an
other account and select cardav. You put your Google account information
there and it moves everything over. Any time you update on Google, it
also updates on your iPhone. Do a little research on cardav accounts and
see if that's what you're wanting to do.

Hi all

I'm wondering if anyone can help me. I want to try to make sure that all my
contacts are completely synced between my ICloud and Gmail accounts, so that
they will all work regardless of what device I'm using and so that they're all
up-to-date/contain the same information and there aren't loads of duplicates
about. Does anyone know how I can do this?? I'm sure there's a way, but I've
just had a total blank.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Many thanks.
