Re: Flash Drive

2022-12-04 Thread Donald Raikes
Steve, I am using the vootoo drive it is a 512gb flashdrive with both
a lightning and usb plug on it. I had to install the ydisk software
to use it, but as soon as I plug the drive in the ydisk software
detects it and loads the base information from the flashdrive.
The software has a backup tab which allows you to backup both your
contacts and photo library. The buttons are not clearly labeled as
buttons but it is fairly obvious which the buttons are. When the
backup is done, the software displays a complete message. Each time I
backup my photos it just adds to the backup/myphotos folder.

The software also provides a file browser for the flashdrive so you
can put other files on the drive and access them from your iOS device.

I am certain there must be a way to copy files from teh flashdrive
onto the iOS device I just haven't tried to figure that out.
I am no longer seeing the flashdrive on amazon unfortunately.

RE: Good USB flash drive to use with my iPhone?

2018-03-27 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
There are several, they are all comparitively expensive because of the
Lightning port and pretty much all require you to use an app to view or use the
content on the USB drive. You may know that Apple is a bit different from
Windows or Android, you can't just plug in a USB drive and access the files on
it. If you are thinking of putting music on the USB drive then you can
certainly do so but you will not be able to play said music in the native music
app.

OT: Help: Reading flash drive on Mac

2017-08-28 Thread regina alvarado
I know this is off topic, but I really got a nasty surprise. Please help and
forgive.

On my braillenote on a flash drive I have 2 folders. One is called Books and
the other is Lessons. When I put my flash drive in my Mac I used
command-shift-C to get the list of drives. I found the flash drive, but when I
opened it all there was for reading were numbers, not books and lessons.
Please, please tell me what I did wrong. If they have to be copied and moved to
read the files, where do I paste them. This is the first time I have tried to
use a flash drive on my mac. Thanks so much.

The advantage of this drive, the transfer rates are much faster than using

Apparently yes, but it is using USB 2.0 instead of the current 3.0 speed and
for the price, some feel it should be using the latest technology especially
since it is brand new.
There are WiFi flash drives up to 1 TB that do a similar function for not
much more money.

Hi Russ,

Sandisk makes a USB drive like that as well, somebody had posted a link
about it just a few days or a week ago. I had a look at this iStick and
given those prices I certainly would never buy one. I thought the 64 Gb
Sandisc was expensive at $119, but the 64 iStick beats it at $199 and $349
for 128 Gb? That's a pretty crazy price especially since you can get other
devices like WiFi capable hard drives for less and with more storage. Just
another company which makes an expensive gadget trying to separate people
from their hard-earned money *smile* and I certainly can think of things I'd
want more for that price..

Apparently yes, but it is using USB 2.0 instead of the current 3.0 speed
and for the price, some feel it should be using the latest technology
especially since it is brand new.
There are WiFi flash drives up to 1 TB that do a similar function for not
much more money.

Does the iStick have an adapter that will let it fasten into a USB port as
well as the lightening port? If so, it might provide a wonderful way to
transfer material from the iOS device to the computer and the other way as
well.

Hopefully there will soon be others on the market at a better price?

Just
another company which makes an expensive gadget trying to separate people
from their hard-earned money *smile* and I certainly can think of things
I'd

want more for that price..

Sieghard

The advantage of this drive, the transfer rates are much faster than using

2014-11-23 Thread Terrie Terlau
OK, folks, I just sent a particularly inane email to this list and I hope you
will ignore it. Of course the iStick has a USB connector and a lightening one.
However, here is a sensible question. Does anyone know if all appswil
automatically see the iStick as a folder to play from? I am wondering, for
instance, if one had a number of BookShare books on the iStick and wanted to
play them in Voice Dream?I hope someone can shed more light on this. I am about
to do more online research.
Best,
Terrie

RE: iStick: USB Flash Drive with Lightning for iPhone and iPad

2014-11-23 Thread Terrie Terlau
I just read in a 9 to 5 Mac review that iStick uses its own ap to access the
stick. You have to transfer files from apps like Pages using the open with
another app feature. You can't send multiple files at one time. Then the
question becomes, Is the iStick app Voice Over friendly?
I would hate to pay the high prices to find out that it is not.
Best,
Terrie

Apparently yes, but it is using USB 2.0 instead of the current 3.0 speed and
for the price, some feel it should be using the latest technology especially
since it is brand new.
There are WiFi flash drives up to 1 TB that do a similar function for not much
more money.

Does the iStick have an adapter that will let it fasten into a USB port as well

material from the iOS device to the computer and the other way as well.

Sieghard

RE: iStick: USB Flash Drive with Lightning for iPhone and iPad

2014-11-23 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
I don't think that is how these drives work. Yes, you can transfer pictures,
videos, music and so on from your computer to the device, but as far as I know
that data will only be available to the iStick or iXpand apps and has to be
consumed so to speak with these apps. Of course we also don't know fi these
apps are even accessible.
I think it would be the other developers like Winston from Voice Dream who
would have to program his app to maybe grab files from the iStick just like it
is when you import an audio book from Dropbox.

Hi Andy,

This drive has a Lightning port as well as a regular USB port. It uses the
FAT32 file system and I don't see why USB 3.0 support
For when you plug it into a PC or Mac is not possible. After all, they
advertise it as a device you can use both ways and especially if you
transfer large amounts of photos or videos the faster transfer speed would
be useful.

Just had a look at this drive and this is another example where a company
slaps a big price tag on an item for iOS devices knowing people will pay. In
a CNET review I read the 64 Gb version will be $120 and while this sounds
like well-made product, it still is just a USB ThumbDrive with a Lightning
port. Furthermore it is only USB 2.0 where especially with USB drives of
that size it is hard to even find anything nowadays which isn't USB 3.0 and
for a product with a premium price this at least would have been a nice
feature.
In my opinion using cloud storage such as Dropbox, OneDrive or iCloud Drive
is a better way to go especially now that prices for online storage are
coming down. You can get 1 Terrabyte of OneDrive storage from Microsoft for
$99 a year. Actually you are paying for Office 365 Home Premium which gives
you a full licence for Office 2013 (and future Office versions) and the 1 Tb
of storage is an added benefit.
I just got an email from Dropbox where they want me to upgrade to Dropbox
Pro which has all sorts of neat features and would also give me 1 Terrabyte
of storage for $109 if I pay for the entire year.

Sieghard

This looks like an interesting product. The key thing though is whether it's
app is accessible. If not are their other ways to use files such as drop
box. This is definitely one to watch.

RE: iXpand Flash Drive for iPhone and iPad

2014-11-16 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Just had a look at this drive and this is another example where a company slaps
a big price tag on an item for iOS devices knowing people will pay. In a CNET
review I read the 64 Gb version will be $120 and while this sounds like
well-made product, it still is just a USB ThumbDrive with a Lightning port.
Furthermore it is only USB 2.0 where especially with USB drives of that size it
is hard to even find anything nowadays which isn't USB 3.0 and for a product
with a premium price this at least would have been a nice feature.
In my opinion using cloud storage such as Dropbox, OneDrive or iCloud Drive is
a better way to go especially now that prices for online storage are coming
down. You can get 1 Terrabyte of OneDrive storage from Microsoft for $99 a
year. Actually you are paying for Office 365 Home Premium which gives you a
full licence for Office 2013 (and future Office versions) and the 1 Tb of
storage is an added benefit.
I just got an email from Dropbox where they want me to upgrade to Dropbox Pro
which has all sorts of neat features and would also give me 1 Terrabyte of
storage for $109 if I pay for the entire year.

Sieghard

Re: iXpand Flash Drive for iPhone and iPad

2014-11-16 Thread Arianna Sepulveda
Holy crap! $120? That's nuts! My $40 MobileLite sans 64 GB SD card is
way cheaper! I think the card only cost me $25 or so, so even there,
the whole package was about $65 or thereabouts.

Also, I feel that the MobileLite Wireless is a better buy not just
because it's cheaper, but because up to three people can use it to
stream totally different content to their devices. And I think this
will work even if there's a mix of OS's accessing content.

Thanks,
Ari

Sieghard

Most USB 3.0 64 Gb flashdrives nowadays are around $30, so yes, 4 times as
expensive just because it has a Lightning plug and an app is pretty expensive
and it's only USB 2.0.

Holy crap!

Thanks,

Hi Andy,

This drive has a Lightning port as well as a regular USB port. It uses the
FAT32 file system and I don't see why USB 3.0 support
For when you plug it into a PC or Mac is not possible. After all, they
advertise it as a device you can use both ways and especially if you transfer
large amounts of photos or videos the faster transfer speed would be useful.

Re: Flash Drive for Pc Alternative option for the iPad for school?

2013-07-22 Thread RobH!
You can get an adapter to go in the data port of an iPad, and that gives a
usb port to plug in a pen drive. The iPad has enough power to power it too.
they're not expensive.
Otherwise, that is what icloud is for, though don't think you ahve the
flexibility you get with your own backup methodology.

Flash Drive for Pc Alternative option for the iPad for school?

2013-07-22 Thread Tyler Jacob
I would suggest using google drive if she has a google account (and if not,
make one) or Dropbox. I personally use both and they both work well.

Does your friend have a windows computer and use Microsoft office? If so, she
can go to preferences (under general or tools), then save settings. Here, she
can dictate that all of the Microsoft word/excel files will be automatically
saved to the google drive or Dropbox syncing folder. I would also suggest
changing the auto save time to happen every 1 minute, just in case the program
crashes. This has saved my bacon many times this past school year.

Also, if she uses google docs, she can pick up wherever she left off from any
computer, ipad, smartphone, etc. currently, I have to use an app like smart
office 2 to do that with .doc and other such files via my phone. I'm not sure
if you can edit normal documents directly from the Dropbox app, since i mostly
use it to store older files.

Two easy options are to sync with a desktop computer and move the documents to

Flash Drive

2013-01-26 Thread Kristeen Hughes
I found this app on the Applevis site and it looked so very promising. However,
I can't figure out how to do anything with it except copy from a dropbox folder
to the phone. Can someone write me off list that uses this for WIFI transfers
from their network? I want to understand what I'm missing.

Kristeen
