Groups in Contacts

2014-06-02 Thread Steve & Shannon Cook
Hi All,

Is it possible to have different groups from within contacts? For example:
if you want to have a group of contacts just for business, restaurants,
family, friends, ETC. If yes, how would I go about setting this up? Using
an iPhone 5C. Thanks in advance!

Wow, figured out you can't create groups in contacts in ios 7, anyone know
of a good app to to this, hopefully has more features and can replace or
work with in the contacts app?

Thanks.

RE: Groups in contacts

2012-08-04 Thread Richard Turner
From:
http://gigaom.com/apple/how-to-create-and-manage-ios-email-distribution-list
s/

The cheapest and most direct way to create a distribution list in iOS it to
add a
new contact and paste several comma delimited email addresses into just a
single
email field for the contact. Sounds easy enough, but it does involve a lot
of typing,
making it much easier to create and maintain on a Mac, and then sync to your
iOS
device. The process is the same on both platforms, however:
1. Create a new e-mail and manually add all recipients in the To: field.
This is easier
than typing in the addresses in full, since they should already be in your
address
book and will auto-complete.
2. Select all of the e-mail addresses and copy them into a plain text
editor.
3. Delete all of the "Full Names" and , leaving just the simple
em...@domain.com
addresses, separated by commas (no spaces).
4. Copy the entire list as a single line of text.
5. Create a new contact and paste the entire list into one e-mail address
entry for
this new contact.
6. Save the new contact. That contact is now effectively a distribution
list.

RE: Groups in contacts

2012-08-04 Thread Richard Turner
I sent the solution I found on line to this question a couple hours ago.
I just followed the steps and it works fine.
I did a slight variation: I created a text file and put it in my dropbox
folder.
Open the file on my Touch and selected all, then pasted that into the Email
address field in a new contact.
Very slick.

You can't do that with the iPhone without getting a third party app. I have g
contact and Simpler pro. They both work well with Voiceover.

Re: Groups in Contacts

2014-06-02 Thread Ioana Gandrabur
Hi,

To my knowledge, you cannot add groups in the iphone but, if the address book
is synked with the computer you can create them there and they will show up on
the iphone.
Adding people to specific groups is tricky but possible. Much easier on the
computer.

Let me know if you would like more details about adding people existing groups
on iOS.

Best,

I use Group Email.
You can create distribution lists, add attachments, and even create a template
if you use the same text a lot.
It takes a little getting used to, but it is completely VoiceOver friendly and
the developer responds to questions pretty quickly.

Thank you, but I also need to send text messages to the groups so this is why I
would like to be with in the contacts app either replacing it or working with
in the app like an add on. I would probably need to text to the group more
often then I'd be emailing.

Jim if you have Microsoft Outlook you can download and run the ICloud Control
Cannel. It will create an ICloud mailbox that contains a contacts folder that
contains your IPhone contacts. You can create groups using outlook.

Working with groups in contacts

2018-04-21 Thread Marcia Yale
Has anyone been able to figure out what the "groups" item in the Contacts
app actually can do? I would really like to group a few people's contacts
together so that I can easily find them. Much appreciated.

Re: Working with groups in contacts

2018-04-21 Thread Christopher Chaltain
Unless it's changed, the group setting in the stock contacts app let's
you choose whether to display your local contacts, your contacts from
Facebook, your contacts from Gmail and so on. It isn't a way to create
your own groups. Last I knew, you needed a third party app to do this.

A search in the iTunes store for "group texting" got these results.
I didn't look at the descriptions, so you may want to do that and see if any of
these might work, then pole the list for anyone who has used the one or two
that might meet your needs.

Thank you, but I also need to send text messages to the groups so this is why I
would like to be with in the contacts app either replacing it or working with
in the app like an add on. I would probably need to text to the group more
often then I'd be emailing.

I use Group Email.
You can create distribution lists, add attachments, and even create a template
if you use the same text a lot.
It takes a little getting used to, but it is completely VoiceOver friendly and
the developer responds to questions pretty quickly.
