Re: home security system accessible with the iPhone?
If you use a system that uses the ALARM.COM app, you will find it to be accessible. We have a system from Moni Smart Security. it uses the ALARM.COM app, so its functions are accessible through the app. The panel is not completely accessible, but you get a key fob with tactile controls. Re: Time Warner Home Security
Hello. We have had Time Warner Security for many years. We had it installed when I was sighted. Now that I am blind, I don't find it very useful for a blind person. Four instance, the only thing I can do is arm it and dis-arm it, because I know the code. If we need to bypass a zone, I have to get a sighted family member to do it for me. The keypad is useless, because it does not talk. I have had many discussions with Time Warner, and they know my frustration, but they do not have many options for blind people. Their app is quirky, and I need to get a family member who can see to help me navigate it, so I don't use it. I know for a fact, there are some security systems out there which speak and let you know what zones are open, i.e., a window, a door, etc. now that there is talk that Charter Cable is supposed to be buying Time Warner Cable for 55 billion dollars, we will wait and see if they will incorporate any enhancements for their blind customers. The cable box is useless to a blind person, as well as the security system. If they don't come up with a blind friendly solution, we will jump ship and go to a Nother company which offers ease-of-use of their products by visually impaired persons. Ironically, they send my bill in braille each month, yet, they don't offer any Braille remotes, nor a cable box which can tell me what channel I am viewing. Hope this helps. Re: Home Security Systems
Hi there, I don’t know the name of the system as the components might have different names but over all I believe it to be called the safe watch 3000 with a pulse account. Yes the account has a pass word when you call in to verify you are who you say you are and the app has a password that is used both in it and on the web portal as well as a numeric code for the keypad of the alarm system itself. Any of these can be changed at will at any time. RE: Home Security Systems
The idea of a smartphone app is to remotely monitor and control the panel, not to control it on site. HoneyWell was one previous suggestion. I cannot for the life of me think of the other that was something like Vivient or something similar. Check spelling. At the moment I'm leaning toward FrontPoint Security. Good reviews, and although I'm not sure if their app is accessible, I'll have plenty of time during my contract with them to harass the developers about changing it if it isn't.--Joe -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Robert Fenton Sent: Saturday, November 03, 2012 9:24 AM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: Re: Home Security Systems I actually have one through ADT which has a talking panel so I don't even have to worry about VoiceOver and accessible phone access. I know this has been discussed before, but like a lot of you, unless your interested in the topic, you just delete it at the time. I'm now considering purchasing a home security system and wondering what is the most VO accessible unit?
