Re: home security system accessible with the iPhone?

2018-04-03 Thread Andy Baracco
If you use a system that uses the ALARM.COM app, you will find it to be
accessible. We have a system from Moni Smart Security. it uses the ALARM.COM
app, so its functions are accessible through the app. The panel is not
completely accessible, but you get a key fob with tactile controls.

  Hello folks,
I am considering installing a home security system in my house. Do you have
any experience and you recommend a particularly accessible home security system
with an accessible iPhone app?
I hope that the control panel will be buttons not touch screen, and the
iPhone app would be totally accessible.
If you have any experience and/or have any suggestions, I would truly
appreciate that.

  Regards,

  Cris

Hi all,
Does anybody have a security system called simply safe? If so, is the app for
the iPhone accessible? And if no one has that particular home security system
does anybody have another one that has an accessible app with it? I'd be
interested because we are looking at a security system and at this point
anything here any system might just do. Thanks much for any help.

family member to do it for me. The keypad is useless, because it does not
talk. I have had many discussions with Time Warner, and they know my
frustration, but they do not have many options for blind people. Their app is
quirky, and I need to get a family member who can see to help me navigate it,
so I don't use it. I know for a fact, there are some security systems out
there which speak and let you know what zones are open, i.e., a window, a door,
etc. now that there is talk that Charter Cable is supposed to be buying Time
Warner Cable for 55 billion dollars, we will wait and see if they will
incorporate any enhancements for their blind customers. The cable box is
useless to a blind person, as well as the security system. If they don't come
up with a blind friendly solution, we will jump ship and go to a Nother company
which offers ease-of-use of their products by visually impaired persons.
Ironically, they send my bill in braille each month, yet, they don't offer any
Braille remotes, nor a cable box which can tell me what channel I am viewing.

Hope this helps.

Time Warner Home Security

2015-05-27 Thread Lynda Ingraham
Hi Everyone,

I wasn't sure if this message made it to the list yesterday. If someone
could please let me know if it was on the list, I would appreciate it very
much.

We are thinking of switching to Time Warner Home Security. Does anyone know
if the app for their home security system is accessible? It appears you
can't sign into the app unless you already have a home security account.

Thank you in advance for any help.

Re: Home Security Systems

2012-11-07 Thread Robin Frost
Hi there,
I don’t know the name of the system as the components might have different
names but over all I believe it to be called the safe watch 3000 with a pulse
account. Yes the account has a pass word when you call in to verify you are
who you say you are and the app has a password that is used both in it and on
the web portal as well as a numeric code for the keypad of the alarm system
itself.
Any of these can be changed at will at any time.

Hi Robin,

What system do you have, I mean is there a model name/number? I am in Canada
and while ADT does offer security systems here I am not sure if they have the
same as in the States. In my case I would be interested in what they offer for
businesses as I don’t really need a security system at home, but I do have one
at my retail business.

Another thing I’d be interested in is the security of the security system so to
speak. Is that app protected by a password? If not anybody could disarm your
system who takes your iPhone away from you. I recently spoke with a Chubb
representative and he said that Chubb who is much more into commercial security
and access control doesn’t yet offer anything like this for that reason and
while the convenience sounds great, I’d like to know it’s save to the point
that some hacker can’t gain access to it.

Hi,

Sadly I can’t speak to the thermostat component as I too have a talking one so
declined that feature from ADT but if any of the other components are any
indication I’d be surprised if it didn’t work.

I had to teach my ADT salesperson who by the way is no longer employed there
any more about voiceover as he didn’t even know it existed on his I device and
thus couldn’t address questions regarding the accessibility of the apt when I
first signed up.

I’m glad to say that my misgivings based upon his lack of knowledge were
unfounded and that the app is very easy with which to deal as is their web
based portal for controlling the system as well.

Good luck with whatever you decide. My system especially its intercoms
allowing me to find out who’s at my door before its opened and the ability to
control lights and the like are some of the best things on which I’ve ever
spent money.

Well, this topic has just become of great interest. we have a security system

the app on the call and it appears to be VoiceOver accessible. We are going to

interested to know if I could control that remotely.

Hi Robin,

Well, this topic has just become of great interest. we have a security
system from Time Warner Cable. It's a an older system, however the newer
system supports an App for the iPhone. I spoke with a rep tonight and we
tried out the app on the call and it appears to be VoiceOver accessible. We
are going to meet with a rep soon to discuss its uses and I may either
purchase the new system, or perhaps switch over to ADT, we'll see how it
goes. I'm interested in the thermostat functions. I have a talking
thermostat already, but I'd be interested to know if I could control that
remotely.

Hi,
I too have a system from ADT and can happily report that its ADT pulse app

basic alarm functions but also allows you to interact with other devices

the latter which is a godsend for me. For no longer do I have to defer to
others to set up the timing of outside lights going on and off for me.

I’m glad to say the app works well.

I actually have one through ADT which has a talking panel so I don't even
have to worry about VoiceOver and accessible phone access.

RE: Home Security Systems

2012-11-03 Thread Joe
The idea of a smartphone app is to remotely monitor and control the panel,
not to control it on site. HoneyWell was one previous suggestion. I cannot
for the life of me think of the other that was something like Vivient or
something similar. Check spelling. At the moment I'm leaning toward
FrontPoint Security. Good reviews, and although I'm not sure if their app is
accessible, I'll have plenty of time during my contract with them to harass
the developers about changing it if it isn't.--Joe
