Thanks. I’m interested in foreign language stuff, so I don’t think word web is
an option here. At least it didn’t used to be. So we’ll see how this goes.

Re: How to use onboard dictionaries

2018-09-20 Thread Michael Feir
The right place is in setttings, general, dictionary. It is right near the
language and region button. Double-tap on dictionary and select the
ictionary and thesaurus you want to use from the options. Once that's done,
they should download and be ready for use.

While you're writing something, you can type the word, turn the rotor to
"edit", swipe down until you get to "select" and double-tap that. Swipe
down again until you reach the "look up" option in the edit menu.
Double-tap that and you'll be presended with a screen containing any
information about the word from various available sources including the
dictionary and thesaurus. Personally, I don't find anything from the
thesaurus but the dictionary works great.

For me, third party apps have proven far more useful. A good starting one
is Wordweb. It can work along with the Chambers dictionary and thesaurus
apps if you need heavier artillary. Hope that helps.

Hi, It's in keyboard settings.

Re: How to use onboard dictionaries

2018-09-20 Thread Anna Dresner
Hi Ketan,

1. Type the word you want to look up.

2. Turn the rotor to Edit.

3. Choose Select.

4. If "Look up isn't in the menu that pops up, select "Show more items."

5. Choose "Look up."

A screen will open with your word looked up in whichever dictionaries you
selected, as well as any other relevant sources.

Best,
Anna

How to use onboard dictionaries

2018-09-18 Thread Ketan Kothari
Hi friends,

I see that in the settings app there are quite a few dictionaries but
how does one use them? Siri is not using them as I tried to translate
from English to Hindi and Siri told me that it cannot do this at
present. Please do let me know.

With best regards,

Ketan
