Yes, I find it's well worth waiting the extra half second or so after the tone because it seems Siri most often comes back with something stupid if you speak too early. For example, I may say "Call John Smith", and Siri may say "What would you like to know about John Smith". Not only is the tone a little/ or a lot, quieter, but it seems longer to me, and if you have any difficulty hearing it clearly, you probably start talking before Siri is fully listening. If using Hey Siri, I don’t' have any issues. If holding in the button, you have to wait until the tone has fully stopped before it will hear everything you say.
