RE: Latency with using Bluetooth earbuds

2018-08-03 Thread R Van Lant
Thanks all. I am guessing the latency on this pair of earbuds is on the better
side, but I’m not going to rush out and buy another pair now for comparison.
The main reason I got the Bluetooth is because I kept burning through wired
earbuds where the connections just broke down. I’ll probably buy another pair
of wired earbuds and use those when I know I’m going to be typing and leave the
Bluetooth primarily for reading and listening to podcasts.

Price does not always make a difference, I bought a pair of $200 Plantronics
Backbeat stereo headsets a couple of years ago which said they used Bluetooth
4.0 or 4.1, can’t remember, they sounded great for music but the lag was the
worst I have ever seen on any bluetooth device. I have an by now very old
Outdoor Tech stereo headset, probably 5 years old, it is Bluetooth 2.1 and the
lag is as minimal as I have seen it. Maybe Bluetooth 5.0 will make a
difference, but so far there simply exists no bluetooth headset which does not
introduce at least a small amount of latency, but it’s usually enough to be
annoying if you do lots of typing and so on and this does include Apple Earpods.
Once again this is something sighted people don’t have to worry about since
their feedback comes from the screen and not from Voiceover speaking via a
bluetooth headset.

Yes, you will generally see some. Even some cheaper ones can be all right; I
use a pair of inexpensive Anker bluetooth earbuds and the latency is mild and
doesn't cause many problems.

I’m using my first pair of Bluetooth earbuds. Is it a given that Bluetooth
earphones will have a slight latency or delay when using touch navigation on
the phone? This slight delay makes me really have to slow down moving around
the screen, especially in apps like Voice Dream where there are several
controls very close together. If I’m not careful, I end up tapping on the wrong
button because I was ahead of what I’m hearing. Is this just the norm when
using Bluetooth that I need to just get used to or are some Bluetooth devices
better than others for this issue?

This is common with older or less expensive bluetooth headphones. I recently
