RE: Losing Speech When Making a Call
I have four sets of earbuds, would not be without them. One is in my purse, so, like they used to say about American Express, "don't leave home without it." -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Sieghard Weitzel Sent: Monday, March 27, 2023 11:38 PM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: RE: Losing Speech When Making a Call Especially if I have to make a longer call or know I have to make multiple calls I very much prefer to use the good old wired Apple Earpods. You can hear well, you can use Voiceover and don't have to worry about the phone switching between speakerphone and earpiece. Also, if you use a headset like that, switchingt calls if somebody else calls you is as simple as pressing the middle button of the in-line remote which is Play/Pause and Answer/Hang-Up for a call. You just have to be quick if you ask the first caller to hold and you press the remote to talk to the second caller and then you are done and want to switch back to the first caller. If the second caller hangs up before you the call may have already switched back automatically and then pressing the button will also hang up on the first caller. -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com On Behalf Of Evan Reese Sent: Monday, March 27, 2023 7:10 AM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: Re: Losing Speech When Making a Call Thanks Sieghard, that was it. RE: Losing Speech When Making a Call
When you say you move your finger all over the screen, do you do this when you are holding the phone close to your ear? If so the answer is relatively simple. The iPhone has a so-called proximity sensor which is right by the earpiece and when you hold the phone to your ear it locks the screen because otherwise you would potentially activate buttons on the screen with your ear or other parts of your face which touch the phone. If you take the iPhone away from your ear the screen becomes usable and since most blind users find it easier, by default the call switches to speakerphone. A sighted person would actually have to touch the speakerphone button and if you don't want this to happen, then you can turn this feature off in Voiceover Settings. Losing Speech When Making a Call
Hello, I got a new iPhone 12 on Monday, and just got cell service set up on Friday. I've had an iPad Mini for some years, so I'm familiar with iOS, but there's quite a bit I still have to learn about the phone part of it. I'm having a bit of a problem. It seems that when I make a call, I hear Voiceover say the number in the little speaker by my ear, then speech disappears. I move my finger all over the screen and I hear nothing from Voiceover. So I can't hang up a call, or pick a number from a menu, or do anything at all. When the person I've called hangs up, speech comes back right away. A friend of mine says that she's having the same problem. But another friend of mine says that he isn't. So he thinks that perhaps there's some setting that we changed that might be affecting speech when a call is made. Anybody seen this behavior and got any ideas as to how to fix it? Thanks much.
