Maps in Ios 8
Hi folks. So, how do you think the Maps app in Ios8 work compared to earlier versions? I never got the hang of using it as a navigation tool with turn-by-turn instructions it sounded complicated and confusing to me in earlier versions, how does this work now? Does Apple Maps even have voice instructions? /Krister -- The following information is important for all members of the viphone list. All new members to the this list are moderated by default. Not tested this but VoiceOver will now speak any POI (points of interest) as you walk around providing you turn tracking on with headings. Re: Maps in Ios 8
If you double tap the tracking button until it says on with headings, you can hear upcoming street intersections and POIs. This isn't perfect yet, but it can be useful. I haven't tried this next part, but you could combine this with the spoken directions available in iOS7 to get an even better experience. Simply tell Siri directions to [some location] and leave the Maps app open, with tracking set as described. Spoken directions plus notifications of all streets and some POIs... Not bad for a free, built-in app. I have a more thorough overview of this new feature of Maps on AppleVis, if anyone's interested: http://www.applevis.com/blog/apple-ios-news/initial-impressions-spoken-announcements-ios-8-maps On Sep 21, 2014, at 5:54 AM, christopher hallsworth challswor...@icloud.com wrote: Not tested this but VoiceOver will now speak any POI (points of interest) as you walk around providing you turn tracking on with headings. I haven't tested it while walking, but while driving it did a decent job. It speaks directions with the same voice as Siri. Re: Maps in Ios 8
When it works, it works well. It's not 100 percent reliable, though, but I think it is a project in the works, so give it some time for improvement in future firmware updates. It announces upcoming streets and the direction the street runs, and points of interest are also mentioned. I haven't tested it while driving because, for some reason, they discriminate against blind people when it comes to issuing driving licenses. Darn them, anyway!! It does work for pedestrians, though. --- Be positive! Sorry, can't use Siri in Sweden since it doesn't recognize local words. /Krister 21 sep 2014 kl. 14:22 skrev Alex Hall mehg...@icloud.com: If you double tap the tracking button until it says on with headings, you can hear upcoming street intersections and POIs.
