OK, I’ll be looking forward to IOS 15 when it comes out, but as I said, I do see spatial audio when I double tap the volume slider in the control center when I’m using my Airpod Pros. BTW, I didn’t see this option with other headphones. Like I said, turning it on and off did make a difference with Apple TV Plus content. Sounds like I’ll be getting a lot more with IOS 15, but it seems like there’s already something there with my install of IOS 14.7.1. -- Christopher (AKA CJ) Chaltain at Outlook From: viphone@googlegroups.com On Behalf Of Kenneth Washington Sent: Thursday, August 19, 2021 8:31 PM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: Re: Netflix now rolling out Spatial Audio support on iPhone and iPad Believe you need to be using the Beta of iOS 15 to get the options in settings. OK, I’m running IOS 14.7.1, and when I use my Airpod Pros, I can triple tap on the volume slider to bring up a few options, one of them being to toggle spacial audio on and off. When I toggle it on for something in the Podcast player or Netflix, I don’t hear any difference in the audio. The Netflix show I watched was kind of old, so I don’t know if it hasn’t been rolled out at all yet or just not for the show I was watching. When I brought up Mythic Quest from Apple TV Plus, I could definitely hear a difference when I turned on spacial audio, but it wasn’t a life changing experience. I’ll keep playing with it, and I’m looking forward to hearing more examples of this in Netflix and with IOS 15. I’m also glad I found out about bringing this option up from the volume slider in the control center, so thanks to Richard and the list for pointing this out. I just tried with my AirPods Max and this iPhone 10 r running 14.7.1. I don’t see anything in control center. I also did not get any kind of menu when I did a single finger triple tap on the volume control in control center. I got the three ascending tones and no menu. According to these articles I’ve been seeing, the new Netflix feature, when it rolls out to your phone, will be available in iOS 14, you don’t have to wait for the beta. RE: Netflix now rolling out Spatial Audio support on iPhone and iPad
Which is what spawned my first question on this. I don’t have any app settings in my control center, so unless I’m missing something, I’m not seeing how Netflix is going to get something in the control center to turn on and off a feature just for Netflix. I still need to play with it, and I’m still on IOS 14.7.1, but I suspect Richard is right. -- Christopher (AKA CJ) Chaltain at Outlook From: viphone@googlegroups.com On Behalf Of Mary Otten Sent: Thursday, August 19, 2021 2:04 PM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: Re: Netflix now rolling out Spatial Audio support on iPhone and iPad I have seen a few more articles talking about this Netflix spacial audio thing. I was running IOS 14.7.1 and didn't see the spatial audio setting. I updated to the iOS beta 15.6 and can access the settings now to enable it. You need to bring up Safari browser and visit this page to learn more: http://beta.apple.com/profile I did do a full backup of my iPhone 8 to iCloud and my PC before updating to Beta. Works great! Love my Airpod Max even more now. Nice! Does anyone know which movies or TV shows on Netflix has this spatial audio track available? Wish to test this out on my Airpods Max. There is also a confusing setting on my iPhone called "Follow iPhone." It's located in Settings/Accessibility/Airpods. Not sure if this needs to be toggled off or on to enable the Spatial audio feature. On 8/18/2021 4:27 PM, Mary Otten wrote: Good news for AirPods Max and AirPods Pro owners who subscribe to Netflix. A Netflix spokesperson has confirmed to /9to5Mac /that the company has started rolling out Spatial Audio support on iPhone and iPad on iOS 14. The news was first reported by users on Reddit <https://www.reddit.com/r/Airpodsmax/comments/p6oiss/spatial_audio_is_now_working_on_the_netflix_app/> as well as in a report from /iPhoneSoft/ <https://iphonesoft.fr/2021/08/18/netflix-active-spatial-audio-application-ios>, The toggle for managing Spatial Audio is located in the Control Center. The spatial audio feature is exclusive to AirPods Pro and AirPods Max. Apple says that spatial audio is an immersive experience using directional audio filters to “play sounds virtually anywhere in space, creating an immersive sound experience.” This will put surround channels exactly in the right spot, even as you turn your head or move your device. Here’s how Apple describes the spatial audio feature for AirPods Pro and AirPods Max users: Spatial audio with dynamic head tracking brings the movie theater experience right to your AirPods Pro. By applying directional audio filters and subtly adjusting the frequencies each ear receives, spatial audio can place sounds virtually anywhere in space, creating an immersive surround sound experience. Using the gyroscope and accelerometer in your AirPods Pro and your iPhone, spatial audio tracks the motion of your head as well as your device, compares the motion data, and then remaps the sound field so that it stays anchored to your device even as your head moves. iOS 15 takes Spatial Audio to the next level with a new Spatialize Stereo option <https://9to5mac.com/2021/06/08/ios-15-and-macos-monterey-simulate-spatial-audio-for-non-dolby-content-with-new-spatialize-stereo-option/>, which simulates the Spatial Audio experience for non-Dolby Atmos content. This allows AirPods Pro and AirPods Max users to listen to pretty much any song or video. The menu will be there no matter the source if using supported headphones. I think the article confused things by mentioning the control center access in the same breath as the fact Netflix is adding spatial audio; just after we cancelled Netflix, of course. Actually you have to use headphones that support spatial audio to get that menu. I just tried with a pair of older plantronics headphones. Before, I was using the Airpods Max. So even with the beta, no menu without the right headphones.
