Netflix questions

2018-10-25 Thread Bill Outman
Well, during the past week I finally got the courage to use my Netflix
account.

I successfully watched White Christmas and Pocahontas. I did this throught
the browse feature. I found Pocahontas under the audio description under
the audio description list, but couldn't figure out how to play the audio
described version, or find it for the other movie if it had it. Is there
some setting I need to adjust in the app so that button shows up?

I am not sure if I am finding all the search results when I type the name of
a film or television show. How can I tell if I am seeing all the results or
if Netflix just doesn't have what I'm looking for. Today I happened to be
looking for a couple major films, Jaws and The 40-Year-Old Virgin.

I want to work on these issues before I work on other apps such as Hulu
which I also have.

RE: Netflix questions

2018-10-25 Thread Gerardo Corripio
Make sure that in Settings/General/Accessibility, way way down you see an
option entitled Audio description, which has to be enabled. IN this way,
Netflix if an Audiodescribed movie or series is available, it’ll automatically
play it for you. Good luck!

Netflix doesn’t have a lot of the older movies, I haven’t looked, but I doubt
they have Jaws.
What device did you use to watch, iPhone or Apple TV? Whether you get audio
descriptions or not depends a bit on that.

Re: Netflix questions

2018-10-26 Thread Ian Harrison
Hi All, here is my experience from the UK:

Accessing the list of AD films is different on the iphone to the Apple TV. On
the iphone it feels like it is at the bottom of a vertical category list, while
in the apple TV it is at the end of a horizontal list. Clicking on the category
brings up over 700 currently described shows.

These lists change over time with some being withdrawn.

Sometimes older films are brought in. Jaws and the Back to the Future trilogy
are currently available.

Annoyingly, sometimes AD will be missing even if listed. This has happened
especially in TV series, such as Gotham. The first three series had AD. Series
4 was listed as having it, but AD only appeared around episode 15. This is very
frustrating.

What I do is go through the whole list every now and again, adding ones that
look good to the My List category for future reference.

Hope this helps. Netflix is still the best experience out there in my humble
opinion.

I also find Netflix very to use. My only complaint is that they don't change
stuff up enough. Amazon video prime or Amazon prime videos are very easy to use
two from the app. Only problem with that format is that once you start playing
something you can't add it to your watchlist so when you close out that show if
you close the app then you have to go back find it again and then find the
episode you last were watching. Better to just leave the app open if you don't
mind the energy drain. Or having it in The background.

Hi Bill, it seems as if there are 2 ways to make this happen.
You can try setting this up right from the iPhone, Settings,
General, Accessibility, scroll all the way down, you will fine, Audio
Descriptions, and make sure it is turned on.
Netflix claims that it will honor this setting.
Alternatively, you need to actually go into Netflix, and start a show playing.

And, sure enough, I just started a show from within the app, the
screen switches to landscape, and there is a button that says Audio
and Subtitle options.
And, English Audio Description is one of the choices.
So there you have it, there two ways to make this happen, and the
second way will definitely work.

RE: Netflix questions

2018-10-26 Thread pdllogan77
If you are watching something ..double tab on “audio and subtitle options”
..under audio select “English audio description” .. then double tap on close
.. it will stay that way until you switch it manually…

If what you are watching doesn’t have that option, then it isn’t described.
Most of the NF originals have AD.

Hope this helps…

I am using the iPhone 8 Plus to watch in Netflix.

I found App Settings button under the More tab, but didn’t find enabling audio
description as was described.

Netflix is still the best experience out there in my humble
opinion.

What device did you use to watch, iPhone or Apple TV? Whether you get audio
descriptions or not depends a bit on that.

Well, during the past week I finally got the courage to use my Netflix account.

I successfully watched White Christmas and Pocahontas. I did this throught the
browse feature. I found Pocahontas under the audio description under the audio
description list, but couldn’t figure out how to play the audio described
version, or find it for the other movie if it had it. Is there some setting I
need to adjust in the app so that button shows up?

I am not sure if I am finding all the search results when I type the name of a
film or television show. How can I tell if I am seeing all the results or if
Netflix just doesn’t have what I’m looking for. Today I happened to be looking
for a couple major films, Jaws and The 40-Year-Old Virgin.

I want to work on these issues before I work on other apps such as Hulu which I
also have.

I'm not sure how to find that button within a film or show. That's what I was
hoping to do originally, as I remember an Applevis podcast about this some time
ago.

Hi Bill, it seems as if there are 2 ways to make this happen.
You can try setting this up right from the iPhone, Settings, General,
Accessibility, scroll all the way down, you will fine, Audio Descriptions, and
make sure it is turned on.
Netflix claims that it will honor this setting.
Alternatively, you need to actually go into Netflix, and start a show playing.

And, sure enough, I just started a show from within the app, the screen
switches to landscape, and there is a button that says Audio and Subtitle
options.
And, English Audio Description is one of the choices.
So there you have it, there two ways to make this happen, and the second way
will definitely work.

Woth extreme apologies: OT: Netflix questions and one more question

2019-07-09 Thread Ketan Kothari
Hi friends,

I am extremely sorry for this but since I know no other group I am
writing here.

How do I know if a particular series on Netflix is audio-described?

Is there good family series on Netflix?

Is there any group where such things could be discussed amongst blind
and VI friends?

Thank you.

2019-07-10 Thread Swati Sinha
Hello Keten Sir,
Hope you remember me. I met you in Barrier Break office in 2010. Hope
you are doing well!
Sir, for your question, for every series you will have to play the
series firstinside show controls> audio and sub title option, you will
get option "English, Hindi original, Hindi audio description " Select
the desired option and you are good to go.
English series are mostly audio descriptive but Hindi series are very few.
For example, Laila, and Jinn are two series that are audio descriptive.

2019-07-10 Thread Victor Gouveia
I've placed below the links you can go to to find out about audio
description on Netflix.

The last link will actually take you to the page which includes different
programs with different language descriptions.

Please keep in mind, the below are solely for North America, mainly U.S. and
Canada, so if you're not in these two countries, I'm sorry, I wouldn't know
where to begin, but I'm sure a Google search would help you.

https://www.netflix.com/browse/audio-description

http://acb.org/adp/netflixad.html

And for the page with non-English audio description:

http://acb.org/adp/netflixadother.html

Gpood luck.
