RE: New Echo
Simon I feel sure that would work. I don't, however, have everything turned on on all my devices. I really don't want to deal with a more rapid battery drain. It's not that important to me. RE: New Echo
There are so many variations on Echo devices, that I suspect the Google Home might be closest to the Echo Show or the full sized Echo, whatever it is called. Maybe the Google Home Mini could be compared to the standard echo, but if you are comparing the Google Home to the standard, small Echo, that is like apples to oranges. I've not heard either one, but based on my reading, that is what I would conclude. Richard Ralph's Observation: It is a mistake to allow any mechanical object<>to realize that you are in a hurry. Deirdre, On the Alexa app, go to more, Alarms and Timers. Note that the only place you can set the sound is on the alarms tab, those are used also for the timers. There should be a setting button, then a default sound that says link I think. Double tap on that and you will find a variety of sounds. There are what it calls Custom sounds, which I think are paid sounds, or at least some of them are, but you cannot use your own sounds, you can just pick from the available sounds. Timer sounds -RE: New Echo
Deirdre, You can change the timer sounds in the Clock ap. I discovered it when looking for a way to stop music after 1 hour at bedtime. Among the sound options I discovered a "stop playing" setting, which works really well. However it also presents a problem when you want to use a timer, because you would have to go in and change it. I solved that by asking Siri to set an alarm when I need to time cooking, etc. You can ask Siri to set an alarm for a specific time, or for as many minutes as you need. RE: New Echo
You have to understand the way these devices work. The Alexa app on your phone is primarily an interface to adjust settings on your Echo speaker, add skills and so on. Yes, it is to some extend also allowing you to use your iPhone like an Alexa speaker, e.g. ask questions or give commands just as you would to your Echo speaker. As far as playing books on your Echo speaker which in fact are playing on your phone like BARD, in this case you basically use yur Echo speaker just like you would any Bluetooth speaker, e.g. you pair it to your phone and the whatever you play on your phone plays via your Echo. But because the Echo is a smartspeaker you can obviously take it one step further, i.e. once a book is playing you can ask your speaker to pause or resume or skip forward or back, on a regular Bluetooth speaker you would do these things by pressing the appropriate button. But I don't think you can pair your Echo to your phone and then tell it to play a BARD book unless you first start the book in your BARD app. Audible is a different matter because Amazon owns Audible hence it's very seamlessly integrated into Echo speakers and as long as you are signed into your speaker with the same Amazon account you use for Audible the Alexa assistant has access to your Audible library. -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com On Behalf Of deidre muccio Sent: Saturday, March 6, 2021 8:46 AM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: Re: New Echo Joshua, Wow this just opened up a new door for me! Re: New Echo
I can use my google home to easily access bard mobile on my iPhone if I wish. I'm sure the echo is the same. What you do, is first tell your echo to connect. It will then say searching, then should connect to your iPhone. Note, you must first make sure that you have paired your echo to your iPhone in order for this to work. Next, open bard mobile app on your iPhone. Hit your play button of your bard mobile app and your book will begin to play. Now, stop playback of your bard book. Now, tell your echo to play, and your bard book will begin to play. You can do things like say stop and your book will stop, if you tell your echo next or back, then your bard book will go forward or back by chapter if the mark-up in the book is by chapter. Good luck. Still I did manage to do a "drop in" message to my brother's own Echo and he was indeed notified he had a message and when he asked Alexa to play it, there I was on a live recording which is what I chose to use as the medium. I look forward to learning to do as much as I can with the Echo "hands off. Any tips anyone can provide about which sources are most reliable and easy to follow would be greatly appreciated. You do not need Voice Control. You can just set up Hey Siri, or just hold the home button and ask Siri to do that. Voice Control is really intended for people who cannot use their fingers effectively. There may be some features you would like, but opening apps, etc., can be done more easily just with Siri. RE: New Echo
Hello list, Does anybody know of a 1980s music game for the echo which is free? I found a game that plays part of a song, and the game player says the name of the song. That is what I am trying to find again. Currently, the only game I can find does not play music, but rather askes trivia questions. Thanks and have a nice day! It[s demos of various echo skills. Also for more in-depth demos, the echo show podcast is good. It would help us if we new what kind of Echo you have. As far as enabling video skills, that is limited to echos with screens, the echo show and it’s variants, and the echo spot. The echo show comes in five, eight, and ten inch sizes. The only echo you can watch Amazon is the echo show. To enable some skills, go to the amazon Alexa app to more. You’ll find an area called skills and games. You can also enable skills by voice if you know the skill name. Re: New Echo
Oh, of course that makes sense. Maybe I should ask Alexa if she can find me any MP3 audio discreet was described movies or maybe I should just get her a specific web address to find them from. Maybe that’ll work. I’ll give it a try. Sent from my iPhone > On Mar 3, 2021, at 9:49 PM, Daniel MacDonald > wrote: > > Helli, > > The dot to dot podcast is a great one to listen to. New Echo
Hello all, Someone gave me a gift of a new Echo. Some basic set up has been done today. I've read some helpful info from emails Amazon keeps sending me and I've been on the Amazon site which gives a list of things to look into. Some of what I am told to do isn't fool proof, perhaps due to human error. I cant seem to get at the place having to do with enabling video such as Prime Video or Netflix. Has anyone used the new Echo Buds and can offer comments?
Hi List, I hesitate to ask about a Bluetooth earphone device with the Bluetooth Headphones thread nearing 80 messages but I'll plow on. I'm curious about the Echo buds Bluetooth earphones that were announced by Amazon a few weeks ago. They sell for $129 USD and I'm wondering how well they work for those using VoiceOver on an iDevice. I won't be purchasing anything before the Black Friday deals are announced but I'd like to get comments on a product before spending that much money. I don't have any Bluetooth earphones because I find the wired Apple earpods to meet most of my listening needs. I expect I use the BARD Mobile app the majority of the time on my iPhone 8 and I'm a bit confused how the Echo Buds work with it and whether the Amazon Alexa app on my iPhone is needed to use the Echo Buds with BARD Mobile. Thanks in advance for any comments you can offer. Alan Lemly -- The following information is important for all members of the V iPhone list.
