Re: Question about removing AirPods from one's Apple ID

2019-08-30 Thread Robin Frost
Hi Anna,
Thanks as always for being so kind as to respond. Yes in my experience I was
told to tell all devices to which they were connected to forget them then press
the button on the back of the case for approximately 8 seconds to get them back
into pairing mode and then remember to rename them once paired with the new
device under their more info button in bluetooth devices.
Take good care.
Robin

Hi robin,

I think you just have to tell one of your devices to forget them, and they are
removed from your account.

Best,
Anna

Re: Question about removing AirPods from one's Apple ID

2019-08-30 Thread Robin Frost
Hi,
Oh dear I must respectfully disagree with the assessment. While yes the
explanation is clear the execution thereof when VoiceOver is in play is not so
as you can’t swipe left on them as confirmed by the Apple Accessibility team.
But as others have said the alternative is to go into bluetooth under settings
tell a device or all devices to which they’re connected to forget them. But
then you have to press the button on the back of the case for approximately 8
seconds to get the airpods into setup mode again and pair them to the new
device. However, once that’s done there’s one more step. You must locate the
airpods under bluetooth devices on the newly paired device double tap on more
info and rename them other wise they’ll retain the name they originally bore
when paired with their first device.
I hope that helps.
Robin (who now knows more about this topic than I ever thought I would in the
name of being generous and giving mine to a friend)

https://support.apple.com/kb/ph19302?locale=en_US . seems to make the process
clear in the Apple supported fashion. Summary: put the airpods in their case:

1.. Sign in to Find My iPhone on this device with your Apple ID (the one you
use with iCloud).

2.. In the Devices list, swipe left on the device, then tap Remove.

If your Apple Watch or AirPods come online again, they reappear in Find My
iPhone. If the device reappears, unpair it in Bluetooth Settings on all of your
devices.

I suspect that pairing the airpods with some other account would be helpful ...
so if you are doing the transfer to someone else, while your phone is off (or
you've bluetooth unpaired it with your phone) having them press the "re-pair"
button the case and take over the airpods that might obviate the need for
unpairing with all devices. Those of us who have paired to a bevy of our apple
family products ... can't easily test the "deactivate from findmyiphone")
because any powerup finds *some* bluetooth device of ours ;>
