I notice that the lines often seem almost too close. Probably a feed problem
with the embosser.

Speaking of books that come with a braille display, I've got to mention that
the user's manual for my Bluetooth 40 from FS has got to be the poorest quality
I've ever seen! I don't know what was used to produce it, but the letters are
run together, almost like a dot was used in both of two letters that are side
by side, like the braille cells were squeezed together so that it looks like
there are 3 columns of dots in a single cell. For example, picture an I N G
with an L to it's right. It almost looks like a number sign. It is almost to
the point of being unreadable.

Thank you, I finally found the commands in the iPhone book I have, I just have
to get used to using them, as a typist for years, I read braille well but
sometimes have to really think about writing it. I will get there, however.

Hi,

Thank you so much Charles and Gina! That did the trick. I need to make sure

If anyone knows the answer re the Notes app, and if there is any way I can stop

I have two more questions. First, does anyone know of a braille command to
lock/unlock your iDevice with a braille keyboard? I fully understand that this
may not be at all possible, but I was thinking of a situation where I might
have my BraillePen out, but my iPhone in my purse. It would be great if I
could use a keyboard command to lock/unlock the iDevice in such a situation.

Also, is there some way to leave the VoiceOver hints turned on as far as
speaking them is concerned, but to set it so that the hints are not displayed
on the braille display, even if VO speaks the hints aloud?

Thanks again everyone! I’m really grateful for all the help, and I’m having a

Re: Questions from a new braille display user.

2015-01-16 Thread Georgina Joyce
Hello,

Yes, with the Braille Pen this is true. If you turn on the pen then unlock the
phone it will pair automatically. As for going to help mode. This happens here
too. I haven’t found a way of turning off. I can’t remember if pressing the
power button to lock the phone enables you to turn off the Pen without going
into help. I haven’t used the Pen for a while. But will check a routine if
required. But it sounds as if you’ve got it as good as it will get.

Not sure if this applies to your braille display, but I know that I have to
turn the Bluetooth 40 that I have on, then turn the iPhone 5 on. When the
phone activates, it will be connected to, and be communicating with the braille
display.

Questions from a new braille display user.

2015-01-16 Thread Amy Harris
Hi everyone.

I just received, earlier this week, a Harpo BraillePen 12 Touch, and,
although I've been using iDevices since IOS 4, and braille for most of my
life, this is my first time with a braille display, and I have a few
questions.

I got my device paired with no problem. However, when I have my iPhone 6+
running the latest IOS 8 version turned on, and I then turn on my BP12T,
they find each other but they don't pair. I have to go into the settings
and double-tap the device under Braille in order to get it to pair. I
don't have to enter the pairing code, but I do have to manually pair it
every time. Any ideas on what I've messed up?

Also, when I'm finished using the BP12T, if I use the Chord K to turn it
off, my device automatically enters VO Help, and I have to 4-finger
double-tap to get out of it every time. My device turns off, but, as soon
as it does, I'm dumped into VO Help. If I turn my device back on while in
VO Help, it doesn't pair, and I have to exit VO help and go into Settings
as mentioned above to tell the keyboard to connect.

Finally, I was trying to "practice" by reading some of my notes in the
default Notes app. Everything works, but the HTML code is turned on, and I
have to hunt through all of that to find the text of my note. When I go
into Messages, and read text messages, that's not the case. In the
Messages app I get text without all of the HTML code regarding font/font
size, etc. that I receive when trying to read a note in the Notes app. Any
thoughts on that one?

Thanks in advance for helping a newbie in working with a braille
keyboard/display in IOS get started!

Amy
