What do you mean he disappeared? Do you mean he isn't in your rotor any more? -- Cheryl I tried and tried to turn over a new leaf. I got crumpled wads of tear-stained paper thrown in the trash! Then God gave me a new heart and life: His joy for my despairing tears! Mine disappeared last evening, was looking at iTunes U when he stopped and Samantha started and he still is not back after I turned off the phone and back on. Re: Alex voice, how is it?
The louder I make Alex on my iPhone 6, the more muffled and possibly distorted he sounds. He still sounds good, but when he is reading a long string of text the distortion can make understanding him a bit harder for me. This happens a lot when I am using the phone's speaker. When I wear my headphones or earbuds, he sounds good and it is easy to understand him. However, I don't want to walk around with earbuds on all the time, especially since the newer phones have larger space and bigger speakers. But, to each their own. This is largely why different voices and speech synthesizers is subjective for people. Perhaps if I had perfect hearing and didn't have a hearing loss, then things would be much better. Hi. Well now that I have an iPhone 5S I can give you my comments about him. As you know, I have a Mac so I use him quite a lot on there and he sounds pretty much the same on the iPhone as he does on the computer. As for him sounding muffled, can you describe what you mean by that? Because he doesn't sound muffled on my iPhone. How loud do you have Voiceover and the phone in general? I have both at medium volume and I have the rate of Alex set to 15% because that's his natural rate of speech and he doesn't sound muffled at all. I can't stand Samantha, I think Nuance needs to make her sound more natural before I use her again. I have a hearing loss and Alex sounds pretty good. I don't have a Mac yet and have only heard him in the stores before, so it will take me awhile to get used to him. He is in many ways clearer than the Samantha voice, but if he is saying a long string of text, it is often hard to understand everything. Right now, I have boht the HQ voices of Alex and Samantha in my rodar and switch between them regularly. I do like Alex, but I also like Samantha. The Samantha voice has gotten better over the last couple of years and is now more tolerable to use. Well, I was showing my boss today and she wanted to keep my phone. I am still getting used to him but, since he is the only man in the house I can make do something, I am keeping him. Re: Alex voice, how is it?
Neal,I suspect he sounds better on my iPad Air then he does on my 5s is because the iPad Air has a larger speaker then does the 5s. Music and movies and any other audio does sound better through the iPad Air's built-in speaker. I'm assuming here that if both the iPad Air and the iPhone 5s both had the same size built in speakers that they would sound alike. As my wife and Mister Spock says it's logical. Hard to argue with the wife. Mister Spock is fictional. The wife knows where the frying pans are kept! LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL! Regards, Alan Go Chicago Bears in 2014! RE: Alex voice, how is it?
The only way he would sound better is because of a significantly improved speaker and that one can test simply by connecting any iDevice capable of Alex to an external speaker. As far as processing power, there is very little difference between the A7 processor of the iPhone 5S and the A8 processor of the 6 and 6 Plus. Benchmark tests show about a 15 to 20% improvement. -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Neal Ewers Sent: Sunday, September 28, 2014 2:42 PM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: RE: Alex voice, how is it? Re: Alex voice, how is it?
I also don't like the Alex voice. He doesn't pronounce things well and to often spells things which he cannot pronounce. I sent this to Apple who were quite interested in the problem. I agree with you, I like the female voice better. It sounds like freedom, dating back to when I got my first iPhone 3GS. Hello, I downloaded Alex on my IPhone 6 and I prefer the female voice. It is just muffled and harder to understand and I normally prefer male voices. I find that to my ears he sounds muffled especially at higher speeds and I find the original female high quality voice pronounces things more clearly. I personally didn't like it. It hangs when closing certain apps, and lags often when reading. I am running him on a 5S 32GB. Maybe after some of the updates he will be fine.
