Re: Amazon Echo and the iPhone

2015-07-02 Thread Don Breda
Shopping at this point is limited to items you ordered in the past that
were prime eligible.

You can look for other things to buy but you will end up having to use
the echo app to do so on the iPhone.

If you do have orders you placed in the past that were prime eligible
though it is a true 21st century experience very cool!

You tell echo you want to buy so and so and it says you ordered this on
such a date and do you want to buy it again.

You say yes and its done.

If you have push notifications set up with your creditcard and bank in
a second or two after you say yes you get the notification your card was
charged.

Its awesome!

Hi Amy,

have you had any luck removing any items from your shopping list or to do list?
To get At Bat to play you need to connect your iPhone via bluetooth to the echo
than launch at bat on the iPhone the same way you would get an at bat game to
play on any bluetooth speaker, works very good. I even was listening to a Blind
Mice Mart movie over the echo last night but than ran in to streaming issues
but think the issues were all Apple Music related, and not Echo related. After
two days with the Echo I am very satisfied with it.

do not think you can say to Echo Alexxa play Bon Jovi on Apple Music. I think
you need to use the iPhone to get it started, but then you can use the verbal

Larry after I asked for an invitation via the amazon website it took like a
month or a little longer before I received the opportunity to order it I placed
my order on May 27 and just received it yesterday. So as long as you are sure
you asked for the invite to buy one it should come eventually then you got
about a month wait after that.

What you can do to get your IPhone and echo to play together through bluetooth
is tell your echo to pair. This will connect it via bluetooth. It will play
everything through the echo including voiceover. According to my friend it
won't do things like whats app through it.

When you want to disconnect from your phone tell your echo to disconnect.

It goes to zero on the phone.

Re: Amazon Echo and the iPhone

2015-07-01 Thread Mary Otten
Now I am curious. When you disconnected the iPhone from Echo by turning
Bluetooth off, did your volume go crazy again? I did it by telling Alexa to
disconnect, and my volume went down, both the regular volume and voiceover
volume. Maybe disconnecting Bluetooth or turning it off, on the iPhone, would
work better.

Sorry Mary just saw this one. All I did was say Alexxa pair, then the Echo

To unfair just turn bluetooth off, no need to use the app for this. Good luck

To unfair just turn bluetooth off, no need to use the app for this. Good luck

Re: Amazon Echo and the iPhone

2015-07-01 Thread Brian Fischler
Thanks as I am curious to as seeing Apple’s new music store on the same day is
really making me consider returning the Echo if all a VO user can access is
playing music on it through prime music than unfortunately the Echo is pretty
useless. I did quickly get a response from Amazon as I sent them an email about
the VO issues through the iPhone and they claim they are passing my feedback
along to their developers so we shall see.

Re: Amazon Echo and the iPhone

2015-07-01 Thread Brian Fischler
Hi Mary,

Not sure what you mean does not work with air play as I just got it all working
and tried using Siri with the new Apple Music I said play Bon Jovi, and sure
enough it all worked and is playing over the Echo pretty cool. Now I do not
think you can say to Echo Alexxa play Bon Jovi on Apple Music. I think you need
to use the iPhone to get it started, but then you can use the verbal commands
or remote to skip songs and change volume and such. Actually I am so impressed
with the remote as I think it is the first remote I have owned for anything
where you do not need to point it at the device or even be in the same room,
very cool remote which I have been using to speak in to with a loud air
conditioner on in the room. Now that I have learned VO does work over the Echo
completely different user experience.

Re: Amazon Echo and the iPhone

2015-07-01 Thread Brian Fischler
Yes agreed it does do all that and I was able to get something from Tune In to
play and i did not have to log in to tune in or anything but I do have tune in
pro. The main reason I got it was to quickly use with MLB At Bat as my friend
who does not use VO showed that feature off to me. Unfortunately since pairing
the Echo with the iPhone seems to knock out VO it is not something I can do
unless someone who uses VO has figured out a work around. Am going to play with
it more today to see what I can figure out but tried it twice and both times VO
disappeared, and I had to turn bluetooth off on the iPhone to then get VO back.

Hey May,

What is it that Homer Simpson says, doh because that fixed it. Can’t believe I
did not think of that as when you pair your iPhone with the Echo sure enough
your iPhone volume must go to zero by default, just got it paired and playing
something from Downcast on the Echo. Thanks so much and do pass along my thanks
to your friend for pointing out the blatantly obvious. Ok, now this really
changes things since the iPhone and VO does work with the Echo. Time to explore

Larry after asking for an invitation to buy one did you eventually receive the
opportunity to buy one, and place the order? It is kind of a two step process
asking for an invite then receiving the invite after a few weeks and placing
your order when you receive the email invite. I think do to the debacle of the
Fire phone Amazon did not want to manufacture a lot of the Echos in case the
demand was limited.

Hi Brian,
You can listen to podcasts on the echo. You can also connect and I heart
account, or establish one,. I did it with the Mac using the URL for the Echo
site. It is still limited, but it isn't as bad as just being able to play prime
music I think you are also supposed to be able to connect your tune in account,
and if you have favorites, they are supposed to go to the top of the search
list when Alexa searches using to noon. And, there is the news brief, weather

IPhone or the echo the first time he did it.

 Good luck.

Yes agreed it does do all that and I was able to get something from Tune
In to play and i did not have to log in to tune in or anything but I do
have tune in pro. The main reason I got it was to quickly use with MLB At
Bat as my friend who does not use VO showed that feature off to me.
Unfortunately since pairing the Echo with the iPhone seems to knock out VO
it is not something I can do unless someone who uses VO has figured out a
work around. Am going to play with it more today to see what I can figure
out but tried it twice and both times VO disappeared, and I had to turn
bluetooth off on the iPhone to then get VO back.

 Hi Brian,
You can listen to podcasts on the echo. You can also connect and I heart
account, or establish one,. I did it with the Mac using the URL for the
Echo site. It is still limited, but it isn't as bad as just being able to
play prime music I think you are also supposed to be able to connect your
tune in account, and if you have favorites, they are supposed to go to
the top of the search list when Alexa searches using to noon. And, there
is the news brief, weather forecasts, and other general information. I
 hope it will get better.

Thanks as I am curious to as seeing Apple’s new music store on the same

access is playing music on it through prime music than unfortunately the

sent them an email about the VO issues through the iPhone and they claim
they are passing my feedback along to their developers so we shall see.

I remember when the ability to use your iTunes library through echo

Thanks for confirming what I expected. Considering Amazon’s history with Kindle
and accessibility you would think they would get their act together now
especially on a device that could be so freaking useful for the blind. If I
ever get to meet Bezos he is definitely getting kicked in the nuts. LOL. Of
course mine arrives on the day Apple music drops making me question whether or
not I should just send it back.

found any works arounds for these two things. One I connected my iPhone via

to Amazon for making the first bluetooth speaker that does not work with VO.
Can anyone get their iPhone VO to play over the Echo? I want to pair it so I
can listen to MLV At Bat games through the echo. The other thing I noticed
is there is no way to delete items that you have added to your to do list
and shopping list. I tried clicking the delete button both on the iPhone app
and then on safari on th emac, but instead of deleting items it just kept
swapping the item I clicked delete from one list to the other so taking a
item on the shopping list and instead of deleting it moved it to the to do
list. The button next to delete is move to the other list so obviously some
kind of a focus issue. If anyone has had any luck with any of this please do

Re: Amazon Echo and the iPhone

2015-06-30 Thread Brent Harding
I wonder if MLB supports Airplay but not Bluetooth? That would seem odd
though that the Echo makes VO go quiet. It might not be able to handle more
than one thing, as even Alexa's voice doesn't speak over anything, and Apple
doesn't have the way to do it like that where it pauses to speak. There's
probably something about the Bluetooth in the Echo the phone might not like.
It's too bad Amazon doesn't add Airplay, as I'm sure the hardware can do it,
they just don't want to work with Apple for anything except the app itself,
which they kind of have to.
