Re: Amazon Echo and the iPhone
Shopping at this point is limited to items you ordered in the past that were prime eligible. You can look for other things to buy but you will end up having to use the echo app to do so on the iPhone. If you do have orders you placed in the past that were prime eligible though it is a true 21st century experience very cool! You tell echo you want to buy so and so and it says you ordered this on such a date and do you want to buy it again. You say yes and its done. If you have push notifications set up with your creditcard and bank in a second or two after you say yes you get the notification your card was charged. Its awesome! Hi Amy, have you had any luck removing any items from your shopping list or to do list? To get At Bat to play you need to connect your iPhone via bluetooth to the echo than launch at bat on the iPhone the same way you would get an at bat game to play on any bluetooth speaker, works very good. I even was listening to a Blind Mice Mart movie over the echo last night but than ran in to streaming issues but think the issues were all Apple Music related, and not Echo related. What I meant is the echo does not use Apple airplay service. It relies on Bluetooth. That's all. I think you need to use the iPhone to get it started, but then you can use the verbal commands or remote to skip songs and change volume and such. I think you need to use the iPhone to get it started, but then you can use the verbal commands or remote to skip songs and change volume and such. Actually I am so impressed with the remote as I think it is the first remote I have owned for anything where you do not need to point it at the device or even be in the same room, very cool remote which I have been using to speak in to with a loud air conditioner on in the room. Re: Amazon Echo and the iPhone
Now I am curious. When you disconnected the iPhone from Echo by turning Bluetooth off, did your volume go crazy again? I did it by telling Alexa to disconnect, and my volume went down, both the regular volume and voiceover volume. Maybe disconnecting Bluetooth or turning it off, on the iPhone, would work better. Yes! There are fairly good instructions on their web site, and, you’ll need to install the Amazon Echo app on your mobile device. And, I must say, the echo app is a big pain to configure. Sorry Mary just saw this one. All I did was say Alexxa pair, then the Echo says after a few seconds in pair mode turn the volume up on your iPhone as it defaults to zero go to settings on your iPhone and bluetooth and select Echo. To unfair just turn bluetooth off, no need to use the app for this. Good luck and let me know if you have any other questions. Re: Amazon Echo and the iPhone
Hi Mary, Not sure what you mean does not work with air play as I just got it all working and tried using Siri with the new Apple Music I said play Bon Jovi, and sure enough it all worked and is playing over the Echo pretty cool. Now I do not think you can say to Echo Alexxa play Bon Jovi on Apple Music. Now that I have learned VO does work over the Echo completely different user experience. Hey May, What is it that Homer Simpson says, doh because that fixed it. Can’t believe I did not think of that as when you pair your iPhone with the Echo sure enough your iPhone volume must go to zero by default, just got it paired and playing something from Downcast on the Echo. Thanks so much and do pass along my thanks to your friend for pointing out the blatantly obvious. Ok, now this really changes things since the iPhone and VO does work with the Echo. Larry after asking for an invitation to buy one did you eventually receive the opportunity to buy one, and place the order? It is kind of a two step process asking for an invite then receiving the invite after a few weeks and placing your order when you receive the email invite. I think do to the debacle of the Fire phone Amazon did not want to manufacture a lot of the Echos in case the demand was limited. Hi Brian, You can listen to podcasts on the echo. You can also connect and I heart account, or establish one,. I did it with the Mac using the URL for the Echo site. It is still limited, but it isn't as bad as just being able to play prime music I think you are also supposed to be able to connect your tune in account, and if you have favorites, they are supposed to go to the top of the search list when Alexa searches using to noon. Hi. Not sure why you are having that issue and I wish I had a solution for you. All I can say is that I use Bluetooth every day with my iPhone 6 plus paired to the Echo with no issues at all. Time to explore more. On Jul 1, 2015, at 1:04 PM, May McDonald mcdonald@gmail.com wrote: Hey Bryan. Check your audio ducking to make sure it's not on? The main reason I got it was to quickly use with MLB At Bat as my friend who does not use VO showed that feature off to me. Unfortunately since pairing the Echo with the iPhone seems to knock out VO it is not something I can do unless someone who uses VO has figured out a work around. Am going to play with it more today to see what I can figure out but tried it twice and both times VO disappeared, and I had to turn bluetooth off on the iPhone to then get VO back. Re: Amazon Echo and the iPhone
Thanks for confirming what I expected. Considering Amazon’s history with Kindle and accessibility you would think they would get their act together now especially on a device that could be so freaking useful for the blind. If I ever get to meet Bezos he is definitely getting kicked in the nuts. LOL. Of course mine arrives on the day Apple music drops making me question whether or not I should just send it back. Re: Amazon Echo and the iPhone
I wonder if MLB supports Airplay but not Bluetooth? That would seem odd though that the Echo makes VO go quiet. It might not be able to handle more than one thing, as even Alexa's voice doesn't speak over anything, and Apple doesn't have the way to do it like that where it pauses to speak. There's probably something about the Bluetooth in the Echo the phone might not like. It's too bad Amazon doesn't add Airplay, as I'm sure the hardware can do it, they just don't want to work with Apple for anything except the app itself, which they kind of have to. - Original Message - From: Brian Fischler brianfisch...@me.com To: viphone@googlegroups.com Sent: Tuesday, June 30, 2015 9:01 PM Subject: Amazon Echo and the iPhone Just got my Amazon Echo today, and have read on the list that certain things for the Echo do not work with VoiceOVer.
