RE: Another Weird Pronunciation Issue
It has been doing this forever in Enhanced Samantha as well, at least I am pretty sure it did this in iOS 11 and iOS 12. Of course, it didn't do it in this email--go figure. She's also saying GPS as geepees, which is quite annoying. Also, Siri British English (when using Siri--I haven't tested this with VO and the British female Siri voice) says PVTA as an actual word, rather than just the letters P V T A. Re: Another Weird Pronunciation Issue
I've not ever heard the issue with defeat with any voice, until I read back that sentence with Tom Enhanced. If you read the word by itself, it pronounces it correctly, but in a sentence it said defeeturing. Very stupid. GPS seems to be a new thing with various voices so I think it came with iOS 13. You can go into the VoiceOver Speech, Pronunciations and add it in with the substitution G P S, and make sure it is set to all voices. That fixed it for me; but it shouldn't have said it that way to begin with of course. RE: Another Weird Pronunciation Issue
Kelby and Richard, I was just on the Apple Store app checking out prices and other specs on an iPhone XR and thought I had found another occurrence of the "to the power of" pronunciation. It was on the 64GB and 128GB capacities of the phone. However, when I placed the rotor in characters mode, I learned the capacities each had a superscript 1 next to them so I guess that pronunciation was appropriate. I would have preferred superscript 1 but to the power of 1 also works. RE: Another Weird Pronunciation Issue
For me, the issue with the word gun, is not isolated to Voice Dream Reader. It is anywhere using US English voices. I just tested it in the Notes app using Tom Enhanced and the word gun is pronounced g u n. This was on my Work phone running iOS 13.2.2. Re: Another Weird Pronunciation Issue
Yes. The fix until someone gets their act together, is to go into the VoiceOver Speech, pronunciations and add gun, the word, which US English voices say g u n, and enter the substitution gunn, which has two n's. I just did that and now gun is said correctly. This for sure started with iOS 13.
