Hello,

I am not entirely sure if this is rolling out to certain countries only and if
everybody is getting this at the same time, but I received a notification from
the Music app this morning that Apple's spacial audio was now available.
I was informed that with certain headsets from Apple the feature would be
automatically turned on, but you can also go into Settings > Music and under
the Audio heading look for the Dolby Atmos entry and change it from Automatic
to Always On.
Once I did this I plugged in my somewhat high-end V-Mota wired headset and
listened to some of the demos Apple has available in the Music app under the
Browse tab. One of them was demonstrating the difference between Mono, Stereo
and Dolby Atmos (also called spacial audio) for the Marvin Gaye song What's
Going On. I must admit it did sound pretty impressive and even when I just did
this without a headset and with my iPhone lying in landscape mode on my chest
just near my chin you can hear the difference.
Of course only some music has been recorded or remastered with Dolby Atmos and
I guess we'll see if it will really revolutionize music as the guy in the demo
claims it will.Apparently

Enjoy,
Sieghard

I also like the new dolby audio. What I don’t get, and maybe I’m missing
something. When I listen to a song that I’ve previously downloaded, shouldn’t
it also play using the new dolby surround sound?

I’ve set it to dolby on automatically in settings, but I noticed a difference
at first, but now, music sounds the same whether I turn dolby on or off, just
to experiment. I am using he Beats Solo headphones.

I’d appreciate any advice.

If you have downloaded albums or songs, and now you want them lossless, you
must re-download them in that format. Streaming is no big deal. But in order to
get them lossless download it to your phone, you have to redo it.

RE: Apple Music Spacial Audio is here

2021-06-19 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Not just any song ever created will suddenly andmagically play in Dolby Atmos
format, songs have to be recorded this way just as movies have to be produced
using Dolby Atmos. Since Apple used a 1971 song from Marvin Gaye as an example
it would appear that songs can be remastered with Dolby Atmos technology, but
that of course will take time and I would not expect that every song in Apple's
75 Million song library will be remastered.

And here a more detailed explanation from an article I found online:

Apple is bringing Spatial Audio with support for Dolby Atmos to Apple Music.
Dolby Atmos is a revolutionary, immersive audio experience that enables artists
to mix music so the sound comes from all around and from above. By default,
Apple Music will automatically play Dolby Atmos tracks on all AirPods and Beats
headphones with an H1 or W1 chip, as well as the built-in speakers in the
latest versions of iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Apple Music will be adding new Dolby
Atmos tracks constantly and will be curating a special set of Dolby Atmos
playlists to help listeners find the music they love. In addition, albums that
are available in Dolby Atmos will have a badge on the detail page for easy
discovery.
At launch, subscribers can enjoy thousands of songs in Spatial Audio from some
of the world’s biggest artists and music across all genres, including hip-hop,
country, Latin, pop, and classical. Apple Music is working with artists and
labels to add new releases and the best catalog tracks, as more artists begin
to create music specifically for the Spatial Audio experience. Together, Apple
Music and Dolby are making it easy for musicians, producers, and mix engineers
to create songs in Dolby Atmos. Initiatives include doubling the number of
Dolby-enabled studios in major markets, offering educational programs, and
providing resources to independent artists.

Hello Arnold

Thanks for your info. I got confused, so now, after having listened to the
podcast by David Woodbridge, I realize that the Beats Flex is a Bluetooth
headphone and the "wired" to which David refers is the wire between the two ear
pieces. As you say, the beats flex is fairly cheap so if the batteries also
will last for two years it is a good choice.

I forgot to ask how do you find the battery life i.e. how many hours can one

Hello Simon

That is one of my concerns with Apple products. I do not live in the US so I
can not buy directly from Apple, so I always wonder for how long has an item
been lying on the shelve in the apple store and how does this affect the
battery. I purchased an iPod Touch 3 years ago and the battery is almost dead
and I can not have it replaced. I got the airpods almost two years ago and one
of the two pieces does not charge and I have not used it so often but I made
sure that the case stayed fully charged.

Keep in mind that Dolby
Atmos or spacial audio as they also call it does not require Apple headphones
with the H1 chip at all. I don't know if there is a drawback when you say that
Dolby
Atmos should be always on insrtead of automatic, but if you turn it to Alwahys
on you hear the music which is available in the Dolby
Atmos format using any old (or new) headset. Keep in mind that while some of
the high-end Bluetooth headsets sound very good, a wired headset will still
sound better. I would not be surprised if in a tru test the finding would be
that you can get a wired headset which sounds as good as those $300 to $600
Bluetooth headsets so many people now buy for a lot less. But to each their own.

2021-06-21 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
It is not, any headphone will work, the only difference is that if you set
Dolby Atmos to Automatic on your iPhone then if you have a headset with that
chip it will automatically know if a song was recorded or remastered with Dolby
Atmos and play it this way. If you set this to Always on the iPhone any headset
including your Apple Earpods which came with the iPhone will work and even
playing it back via the iPhone external speakers will work. If you have an
Apple Music subscription just try it, lye down and put you riPhone on your
chest just under your chin in landscape orientation and play the demo track
Apple has made.
You can also Google "Apple Music spacial audio" and find a bunch of articles
from pretty much all the popular sources like
The Verge, 9to5Mac and others and read about it.

Now I am a bit confused. From the article which you quoted it seems that the H1

As for battery life, it is advertised to be 12 hours. I have never run them
completely down, but there have been a few times that I have run them for maybe
6 or 7 hours, and they were around 50 percent. Of course, it drops more quickly
after 50 percent than before. As for an on off switch, it does have one, it is
on the other side from the what will call the mode button, volume control and
microphone. These headphones are unique, in that when one attaches the buds
together with the magnet, it puts them into, as it were, a sleep mode. I have
never just left them in this sleep mode to see how much it would drain the
battery, as compared to turning them off, but I will bet it wouldn't drain it a
lot over time. I do just turn them off when I am not going to use them for a
while.

Finally, and this is important to know, the charging cable that comes with them
is a u s b c to u s b c cable. So, unless you have one of these chargers, you

Apple is bringing Spatial Audio with support for Dolby Atmos to Apple Music.
Dolby Atmos is a revolutionary, immersive audio experience that enables artists

Apple Music will automatically play Dolby Atmos tracks on all AirPods and Beats
headphones with an H1 or W1 chip, as well as the built-in speakers in the

At launch, subscribers can enjoy thousands of songs in Spatial Audio from some
of the world’s biggest artists and music across all genres, including hip-hop,
country, Latin, pop, and classical. Apple Music is working with artists and
labels to add new releases and the best catalog tracks, as more artists begin

They don't sound quite as good as the old beats x headphones did, but then the

Audio quality is very subjective, and depends on a lot of factors having
nothing to do with the product. I notice that as I age and am experiencing
some hearing loss, that I am not as good a judge of audio quality as I used to
be. It is common to lose high frequencies in our hearing as we age, so that
might be why everything starts to sound too basey.

What do you mean you can’t buy directly from apple?

Apple have websites for a lot of countrys and you can buy off those sites.

As for stock sitting on shelves,

That happens everywhere and there isn’t a lot we can do
But a warranty is taken from the day of purchase not the day the product
started it’s sitting on the shelf life.

Have a look on line at your closest countries apple site if your
S doesn’t have one.

I’d start with www.apple.com<http://www.apple.com>
And see what happens froom there.

So, unless you have one of these chargers, you
need either to buy a u s b c charger, or a usb to u s b c cable to charge them.

I forgot to ask how do you find the battery life i.e. how many hours can one

that there is no on/off switch but that one must stick the two ear pieces
together via the magnets to put it to sleep, or did I mis understand? And
lastly, does the sound quality compare well to the first generation airpods?

I have had the Beats Flex headphones almost since when they came out last year,
and they do have the modern chip to take advantage of the spacial audio. For
what I paid for them, I am happy with these headphones. I would say that they
do not sound quite as good as the second generation airpods, but then I could
buy three pair of these headphones for what a pair of the airpods sell for, so
I hope the airpods sound better. If something were to happen to the Beats Flex
headphones, I would buy another pair of them.

Hello Simon

Apple SA is not a retail store. They just import the products and then
distribute to apple Stores which are franchises. So to buy direct from apple I
have to import the product and the shipping charges are so much that in the end
I would pay nearly double the price. The section of our population who can
afford these expensive stuff is so small that items might ly on the shelves for
month and thus damage the battery. I am sure that's what happened to my iPod
and Airpods so that I got less than two years use.

On that website an iPhone Mini 64 Gb, for example, costs 13,999 South African

In Canada Apple is currently also gouging a bit, $699 US currently converts to

$979 Canadian which if converted back to US is approx. $780 US which is a good

But it is still not nearly as bad as in South Africa where it costs approx.
$980 US or 40% more than what one would pay in the US.

On that website an iPhone Mini 64 Gb, for example, costs 13,999 South African
Rand which converts to approx $980 US Dollars. This phone costs $699 in the US.

In Canada Apple is currently also gouging a bit, $699 US currently converts to
approx $875 or $880 Canadian, but an iPhone 12 Mini 64 Gb here in Canada is
$979 Canadian which if converted back to US is approx. $780 US which is a good
10% higher than the US price.

But it is still not nearly as bad as in South Africa where it costs approx.
$980 US or 40% more than what one would pay in the US.

?Actually Simon,

Mike Shinoda and Chester were co-lead singers. Right now Mike Shinoda is the
lead singer. Linkin Park is still very much a band after Chesters passing. Mike
and the rest of the band are continuing on with music and other projects
related to LP.

Have a look at the apple website at the beats headphones and see what they say
about the tech specs.

If you’re set on beats then buy from apple directly.

Hello Sieghard and list

I am in the market for new headphones because my airpods lost battery life
within two years, so I want to go back to wired headphones. My question is
therefore as to how do I know if the Beats Flex which I can purchase here in SA
has the H1 or W1 chip? I do not really trust salesman because I am not sure if
they really know the specs.

Not just any song ever created will suddenly andmagically play in Dolby Atmos

using Dolby Atmos.

I’d start with www.apple.com

Hello Simon
Unfortunately not. The nearest border from me is that of Namibia which is about
800 km and I suppose the same would be applicable there.

Have a look at the apple website at the beats headphones and see what they say
about the tech specs.

If you’re set on beats then buy from apple directly.
